  • The infamous theme with just the vocalist, Melanie Pappenheim, singing and no instrumental backing. This track was used throughout Series 1 and 2 mostly and subsequent series from time to time although this variation was never repeated again elsewhere, it reappeared in a different key in the first episode of Series 11, 'The Woman Who Fell to Earth' but for some odd reason, it was the incorrect album version which was pitched up a semitone and not the original, (superior) broadcast version.
Doctor Who is owned by the BBC.

This music sums up Christopher Ecclestons era to me and occasionally the entire of the modern who era. Such a beautiful score and why Christopher Eccleston is my favourite Doctor

Couldn't agree more. I actually think though that for the most part, Series One is and always will be, my favourite series. Christopher Eccleston's performance is almost unrivalled and his performance is definitely unique compared to the other doctors that came before and after him. You just need to look no further then the 'Turn of the Earth' speech in 'Rose' or his PTSD like state in 'Dalek' when he unleashes his darker side on the imprisoned Dalek.
      Brutal and chilling.
Replacing his incarnation as 'The War Doctor' who fought in the war instead of him, although understandable by Moffat, kind of irked me since Nine feels like the incarnation that actually fought in the war and that was possibly Davie's intention at the time before the soft retcon due to Eccleston not returning for the 50th.
Back to the topic of the music, I think having the music in Series One composed with(out) an orchestra helped set the atmosphere and tone for the series and is very reminiscent of that era. Synths and Samples really helped to enhance the score to make it atmospheric and evocative. It's a shame that only a few original tracks featured on the Series One and Two Soundtrack release since for some odd reason, Murray Gold opted to re-record almost all of the tracks that were on the album bar a few. The Soundtrack CD was even labelled as 'Original Television Soundtrack' when in reality, for the most part, it was false advertising and not broadcast at all almost in it's entirety.

@@suphriez2806 I may aswell have to go as far as to call Christopher eccleston the best doctor. If he only hsd a couple or even one more serious I could probably say it eith complete certainty.

I love this theme from series 1! It's just so beautiful and iconic with doctor who, every time I hear it, I think of doctor who! Can't wait to see what murray gold's got planned for the 60th anniversary specials! 😊❤
