  • Timber Stand Improvement is a great way to create a quality habitat for deer and turkey hunting across the United States. In this video, Grant Woods from Growing Deer TV discusses the best techniques for Timber Stand Improvement such as "hack and squirt" and managing tree competition, allowing more sunlight to reach the forest floor. By reducing tree density with the combination of prescribed fires, hunters and land managers can promote beneficial vegetation growth, providing both food and cover for wildlife. Grant also highlights the benefits of these practices, including healthier trees, better hunting conditions, and improved habitat for various game species. Grant also touches on the impact of these management techniques on scent control for hunters and addresses the importance of proper herbicide use and safety.

I'm recently retired & am now felling all the big, tall cedars off one hillside on my Southern Ohio 10 acre property...like you said, no sunlight hits the ground & it was a desert for the animals...have already planted 5 fruit trees & 3 Chinese Chestnut trees will be planted this October...It's hard work at 67 years of age....have a lot of bonfires....as the cedars aren't worth selling...

I have a problem with invasives, I am afraid to cut my timber and have the already problematic garlic mustard taking over more than it already has! HELP!!

Personally, I'll never use a herbicide on my property.

You aren't changing the world by having that stance. If anything you are allowing your property to be a huge seed source / breeding ground for invasive species.

@@usernamehere6061 what an ignorant thing to say. He's using herbicide to kill native trees instead of cutting them down.
