    Loved the tips for starting / finishing the neck band so neatly. Really good technique, thank you for sharing.

    Great video. Can’t wait to try this - maybe on a toddler size shirt first! Thanks for the neck band tips. That’s always the most difficult part, and you make it look easy.

    Learning how to use my L890 so taking in everything I can find on CZcams. Just came across your video and wow - I learned SO much - thank you!! Both the shoulder and neckline tips were very helpful. Also, your tips on getting a smooth seam with the threads pulled out and the knife blade down - I really like how that turned out. Now can’t wait to make my first knit top following your excellent instruction. You had me at the neckline and I subscribed 😊.

    Good point about placement of neckline on shoulder seams. Made sense once you said it.

    Once again, learned a new technique! Good info on how to apply the band on the neck without the bulk.

    Thank you! I learned so much! I've never inserted sleeves this way, and oh my goodness, it was MUCH easier! I'm having so much trouble sewing knits on my sewing machine, so every step was completed with a serger. The sewing machine sews great with wovens, but even with an 80 jersey needle, the stitches come out wonky, especially the lightning stitch. Maybe I need a size 70? I don't know what's wrong... I'm new to sewing with knits.

      Glad it helped! If it's coming out wonky with the jersey needle, bump up to a stretch needle

    Very informative thanks. Only problem is on my serger I have to open the machine up to move the knife blade out of the way. Is it somehow possible to finish the neckline without doing that? Sorry, beginner here trying to work out how to sew on my serger.

      If it's difficult to remove the knife, then very deliberately pull the stitch to the left of the knife so that it won't cut the beginning stitches.

    Thank you for this video! One question though… do you just leave the tails of the serged edges to hang? It won’t come unraveled?

    • @HayesSewingMachineCo
      @HayesSewingMachineCo  Před 2 lety +1

      You can weave them into the seam with a small needle, or use fray check on the ends and then snip off the excess.

    Do you use jersey needles in the serger to sew knits?

    • @HayesSewingMachineCo
      @HayesSewingMachineCo  Před rokem +1

      As long as it takes a standard needle, than yes. Still keeping in mind that you can only use sizes between 70-90

    When hemming the sleeves on the sewing machine, did you use a straight stitch or zigzag stitch? Thank you for such a helpful video!

    • @HayesSewingMachineCo
      @HayesSewingMachineCo  Před rokem

      A straight stitch, but sew it on top of the serging stitches so it has some stabilization.

      @@HayesSewingMachineCo how does it maintain stretch with the straight stitch?

    • @HayesSewingMachineCo
      @HayesSewingMachineCo  Před rokem +1

      @@meaganbritainy3868 It will reduce the stretch to some decree, but on this pattern, the sleeve is large enough that you won't pop the stitch when putting your hand through.
