    I have a different way I want to finish my siding.
    My house is 100 years old. I have metal tips on the end of each corner.
    I’d like to keep them. Reuse them.
    Have you ever tried to finish a corner like that?

      Gecko Gauge, need to make sure you have the correct one for the type of product you are installing. For this lap siding 3/8 or 7/16 gecko gauge is used.

      Wanna bet? Cut a piece of hardi and throw it in a bucket of water.

      I am a homeowner who has installed Hardieplank on a part of my house and water makes it deteriorate almost worse than this cardboard stuff. Bottom line, you just have to keep water away from any kind of siding.

      It acclimates to the humidity that you are in. It does this once, then won't shrink or swell again. This is due to it coming from the factory, controlled environment. So gap it when you install, and the gaps close up.

    • @dcuobeast
      @dcuobeast Před 4 lety

      Chip Penny if it’s not gapped does it lead to wavy siding? Like facing forward you don’t notice as much but if you look straight down the side it’s wavy? Mine is like that and my home was built only 6 months ago. Builder keeps making excuses and the edges are snug to every horizontal piece.

      dcuobeast I can’t say without seeing it. You should reach out to the supplier and ask for a representative from LP Smartside to view the installation.

    Forgive my ignorance. I know nothing of the subject but they put a waterproof layer under the siding. Then they shoot thousands of nails through it............................ In my mind, the waterproof layer is then a worthless waste of money.

      Many waterproofing barriers are now designed to be self-healing, so they seal back around the penetrations.

      @@stevehanzel2878 blind nailing doesn't stop penetrations through the weather barrier....
