That packaging is so Indian, my Indian self feels called out lol
For real! I was in fact looking for natural alternatives for shampoo and this video popped up!
Ikr
Hahaha yeah! I sometimes feel like an idiot for not listening to my mom when she used to chase me around the house to use all these Ayurvedic methods! Now I’m 24 and tempted to try them cause they’re trendy 😂 how ironic
yashodhara yeah it is!
Taytay Queen haha same
You’re honestly getting us all through this pandemic hen
True
Yeah you are
bagock
(that was my impression of a hen)
Beth true dat
U said hen instead of hun:)) edit- turns out I’m an idiot and hen is Scottish slang🤦♀️
I get the same thing from every single hairdresser: "your hair is heat-damaged." Then they don't believe me when I tell them I haven't even used a hairdryer in at least 5 years. In fact, I probably take better care of my hair than most people, but the result is still a dry, frizzy mess. Feel your pain!
have you checked your thyroid
Same! And I never dyed my hair in my life either. But I know what's damaging my hair; hard water.
hey love, don’t know if this will help and i don’t know your hair care routine but using a leave in conditioner will work wonders and also try scrunch in your gel and letting your hair plop( yes it’s a funny word lol) but i use a hair cap or bonnet and just plop my hair in for as long as possible before diffusing for a little and it helps the frizz
Unicorn bükücü it may not also be the water dry doing a purify cleanse in your hair and a good hair treatment(cantu has a really good one and it’s very affordable) as well as a repair leave in conditioner should help out
@@wilted_rose510 I haven't. Is dry hair a symptom? I've had hair like this for as long as I can remember, which makes me doubt that it's that, but it's possible I guess
As an Indian, I feel so happy that you're recommending this! Also, if it helps, it pronounced she-kaa-kai!

For those wondering! Here are some other Indian hair/skin treatments our mothers taught us about. 😀
1) Coconut milk and Aloe Vera gel for an hour all over the hair before shampoo as a conditioning and protein treatment!
2) Shikakai, Amla, and Yoghurt mixed together and used as a pre shampoo hair mask.
3) Chickpea powder, Little bit of Turmeric, milk powder and Oatmeal as as body scrub and mask! ( This stuff is FANTASTIC- messy af but makes my skin glow like crazy )
4) Fenugreek and Black seed infused oil as a scalp treatment for hair loss.
- all of these recipes are available in detail online! Try them and see if it works for you :D
Taytay Queen ty for this I actually needed it🤩
Indians have absolutely GORGEOUS hair, stunning... i will try this for sure!
Taytay Queen thank you queen
By oatmeal do you then mean the oats or do you literally mean porridge oatmeal?
Mai Holmgaard You don’t have to cook the oats. Just add raw oats to the mixture. :) when you add water to the completely mixture Ittl all dissolve together and create a thick paste.
You know there’s always gonna be those people who 100% understand that your hair isn’t heat damaged but just like to cause problems unfortunately that’s the internet for ya
but she got it permanently straightened?? Doesn't that count as heat damage?? idk I'm no expert
rayn true that was damaging, but it’s been a while, and most of that has been cut off
rayn it was 3 years ago that’s all grown out! People just don’t actually think that’s the problem
also like why would she lie about having heat damage when she’s so open about her hair history and hair care routine? ppl are welrd

not hair damage or anything else but my hair is just *DRY* and My hair is wavy if I take care of it but still *FRIZZY* 😢😭
Purple I feel you !
I don't know if you have tried this but try putting a good amount of conditioner even on the roots of your hair and not just on the ends. But be careful not to apply on your scalp, just really close to the roots. I have wavy/curly hair and it used to be so frizzy and dry. After i started putting conditioner all over my hair, it became less frizzy and it had more shine. Maybe you also have wavy/curly hair and haven't figured it out yet, i didn't know either. Hopefully this helps 🙏
@@aphroditedaily thanks 💓 but I wash my hair in this way, soo.. sorry 😅🙏🏻
hey don't know if this will help but applying a repair leave in conditioner will help so much. I personally recommend the cantu one it's amazing. I has pretty dry hair and i used that everytime i washed for a good year and my hair was looking and feeling much better. Also they have a wave maker that works wonders, personally i have very curly hair so i don't use it but my best friend does and her hair has complete changed and looks more shiner and has more moisture.

I use shi-ka-kai powder instead of shampoo for years and my hair loves it. I recommend it to you to too. Use it for a month your hair will too love it
How do you use it? I have a big box of Amla Reetha Shakikai mixture right now.
@@ya__basic use it as a hair mask and just wash it off without shampooing
@@ya__basic do oil massage, make sure u dont apply so much of oil .
then apply this mask and massage, after 20-30 mins just rinse it.
no needof shampooing.
choose any day to do heavy oil massage, repeat the same procedure. but on that day use few drops of mild shampoo (diluted) . since its difficult for hair mask to remove so much of oil.
We use reetha as a shampoo
Thanks for the tip, I actually transed from curly to straight. I recommend actually scrunching with conditioner, and using keratine spray!
Beware the keratin. It makes hair straight overtime. Should be used only sparingly as it's a protein treatment
Now this! ☝🏻 This looks like so much fun!!
Swavy Curly Courtney it totally is! I love your video Courtney they’re really helpful x
This is the best I’ve seen your hair in all of your videos recently!! so glad you are finally finding things that work for you after all your hair trouble 💓
Natural hair washes are amazing! I've been washing my hair with chickpea flour for just over a year now and I'll never go back ☺️ sometimes I have a bit left over in hair because my hairs so thick, it can be hard to get it all but I just brush it out when it's dry
Hi .. what do you mix chickpea flour with .. I mix it with yougart
@@raniminhas344 hey, I've never heard of using yoghurt! Is it any good? I just mix it with some water until it's a thin paste. It can make your hair a bit dry but my hair can be a bit oily and doesn't need much moisturing so it's perfect for me. I also use apple cider vinegar and water mixed afterwards to help it feel softer
I also transitioned from straight to wavy naturally, I really thought I was the only one!

Nooo
Layers ruin my hair so much don’t get them honey
Hey it's really great to see that you're using Ritha and Shikakai. Our ancestors always suggested them for haircare routine in India.❤❤
You are the literal hair queen.
Using a mixture of amla, reetha and shikakai from more then 4 years
N it works ! It helps in increasing hair growth and provides shine
You can use it once every 15 days as a hair mask instead of a hair rinse
As it doesn't really clean the oil and dirt
I am on hair journey and I am try amla, reetha and shikakai it has reduced the hairfall significantly and I am so happy. I hope it will help grow my hair.
Your hair is gorgeous today! So happy that you tried that method, I've been using it for over a year now and I don't think I'll ever go back to "traditional" shampoos 😄
Have you ever heard of marshmallow root powder ? It has amazing conditionning and hydrating properties so the aritha is not as drying, plus I think it makes the mixture a lot easier to apply, it makes it a little bit gooey so it sticks better to the scalp
Hope it can help!
Your hair is getting better and better every video
I have such a similar hair type to yours. Its a real big hassle to explain it to anyone, especally a hair dresser who keeps taking my hair type understanding as heat damaged. I only really straighten my hair 2 times a whole year, its naturally wavy just like yours but I have more curls and it's super frizzy. Your videos have really helped me open up to do something to repair my hair so i too am currently in the process of buying a shampoo and conditioner to treat my hair and fix it. I've got a smooth glossy hair at the front but it's dry and corse behind. Wishing you all the best for a better hair by the end of the year!
Happy chapp hey i would recommend a repair leave in conditioner i personally use the one from cantu as well as their shampoo and conditioner it’s all very affordable and try to do some hair mask with heat ( ik it’s sounds dumb since you don’t want heat damage but hear me out) the heat helps open the hair cuticles which will let the product work better and make your less frizzy and curly hair which is personally my hair type... you need to apply a lot of a leave in conditioner bc our hair type needs lots of moisture and water
@@Priya-tj3yk thankyou for replying! I really appreciate the recommendation. I will have a look into it, i'm currently starting to test the nounou by Davines shampoo and conditioner because i heard it was fantastic for frizz. It is only a little pricey but Im willing to give it a go, because I've always been using affordable and cheap products. I'll be looking into leave in conditioners aswell, that is a great idea! I've heard great reviews for cantu and Moroccan oil, I'm a little left in deciding between the two.
Some tips that make a difference in my experience:
1) Try applying a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit of coconut oil to your ends before you shampoo. Itl stop shampoo from stripping the hair.. so you will never feel the ends dry again.
2) Rice water once per week
3) Henna binds to the keratin in hair, strengthening it... if you dont like the colour of henna, mix it with a range of herbs to create anything from blonde to black to ... antyhing. It is possible.
4) Scalp massage
Cassia Obovata and Amla would make wonders for her!
Hello Hello ! To make these mixes I recommend that you don't use a steel or inox spoon as this cancels and spoils all the nutrients of the powders. I recommend a small wooden spatula for instance 😉 and for your mixture, instead of water, you can use coconut milk for a little sweetness or a flower water with virtues corresponding to your hair needs, it's magical 🦄
Anyway thanks so much for your videos 💐
Anaïs Barrere thanks x
You should try flaxseed gel :) it works really well for me and we have a similar hairtype. It makes the hair smoother and less frizzy
Li La yes it’s next on my list x
How long do you keep it on your hair?
Do you put it on your scalp?
@@dalegonsalves0429 yes, I distribute it on my scalp and all over my hair and then I scrunch. I use it instead of any other gel, so I don't rinse it out at all
@@lila4778 Oohh.. Okay.. I made the mixture and kept it ready, just wanted to know how to make the best use of the flax seed jelly. Thank you so much. God bless you.

My mom used to buy boxes of reetha shikakai powder and make us wash our hair with it. It helped me get rid of my dandruff
How to use the powder?
I’m so happy your hair is coming around and ur happy with it!! u deserve it 🤍💜
Hi Isabella. I have been using arithra, shikakai and amla to wash my hair for over 5 years now. I have the same hair texture/wave as you and I too have normally dry hair. But with this mixture it keeps the natural oils. I prefer however ( you may as well) to buy the whole herbs and make a "tea" out of them. Then we dont get all the little bits left (even though a bit of conditioner will help get them out) If you like discovering new stuff. I recently purchased irish moss (sea weed). I make a gel out of it, use it as a oil free pree poo with my fermented rice and fenugreek water. Also just the gel as a leave in afterwards (slight hold and not crunchy) Enjoy your good hair day! :) I'm having one too, and they are so rare lol (:
I was hoping you would upload again soon, currently binge watching all your old videos to get me through this quarantine
Laura Watson yaaaaaas xx
I love using it! I had mine for about 4 years 🤪 and it worked ok. I bout a new one and tried it again and it worked even better new :)

Thanks for sharing these hair videos because i've learned so much just by watching them 💕 !
*- Røse -* you’re most welcome x
Hey Isabella!!
I would like to tell you that ,use that shikakai powder by boiling it in water and also apply coconut oil before a night you wash your hair. Then it will give more nice effective result ( because I do that) .
Thanks...
your hair is looking better and better each video !!!
Curly hair tends to be very dry/ thirsty so that may have been some part of why there wasn’t very much of an explanation other than having dry hair, which makes it even better that your doing the curly girl method because the products are very moisturizing!
That powder brought back memories of my grandma washing my hair with it... I can smell it from it here 😂
ISABELLA OH MY GOD!! Your hair is looking SO GOOD 😢💗 im super happy that you're able to find things that work for you and that your hair is finally starting to cooperate! It looks so much better... smoother, healthier, shinier, thicker... i really wish i had hair like yours sometimes :)
aristopoieo thank you! It’s far from where I want it but it’s slowly improving :)
To get best results soak the powder over night and then warm the mix then apply, thats how my family has done it for generations.
These two work really really well together along with amla. Thats how I use it once a week but yes it can't remove oils properly.
You can also use a natural hairmask along with it, powder of Brahmi + Bhringaraja + Hibiscus + Senna, soak these over night too and then apply like a mask and wash after 1-2 hour ✌🏻❣️
What is the powder water ratio???
@@gem_ma9158 ratio depends upon the fineness of the powders but i prefer the consistency of a thin cake batter
seeing you makes me happy you give off such sweet vibes
Ktn aw thank you x
Girl you are DEDICATED. I love that you are sharing the things you learn about haircare. I have an Indian background and this is the first time I've even heard of this lol, I wanna try it 🤗🤗❤
Rebecca K totally! It worked great :)
I’m so happy to see you content with your hair, you rock short hair a lot! I’m ecstatic to see how you are taking it slow now and I can tell it’s wayyyy healthier now! Best wishes ❤️
I added African black soap to mine and it made my hair feel squeaky clean! I used a prepoo moringa mask and it washed it clean! Thank you for this share!
Yes! My grandmother would always encourage me to use shikhakai powder. Very healthy and nourishing! :)
As you want long hair too, use a little tea spoon of amla too. Amla is amazing for the hair and hair growth.
Also let the mixture soak for a while, an hour or so, application will be easier. I have been doing this since 2 years.
So happy to be on my hair journey with you! 🤩💕
As I'm getting older, and I'm in my mid 50's, I realize I want to spend less time on my hair---styling, washing, anything. Actually, tbh, I hate washing my hair. Currently it's down to my waist bc I don't think it's time yet to get close to a stylist. It's taken some time, but I'm now at the point where I can wash my hair only once a week and it's not at all disgusting. Two tricks---I use aloe gel every day *as* a hair gel. I rub it in my scalp and work it through my hair to the ends. It's much better for hair than commercial hair gel, and balances the oil/dry problem. Two, I keep it in a clip 90% of the time. When I take it down every day to brush, it's not oily or dirty. Only my bangs get washed every day.
such an interesting way of saying shikakai
Aww your hair looked so beautiful, and I’m so happy that you are being able to slowly but surely able to create the hair goals that you’ve always wanted good luck on your journey
my grandma always told me how her mom would wash her hair with berries, and i would always be so confused as to what berries she was talking about! Thank you for making this video!!! ive been wondering this for years
it was followed by coconut oil and tightly braided for the next week!
Even I use natural shampoo which already contains shikakai...to use we need to dilute in water....these days i dilute it in natural aloe vera juice! And this shampoo is doing wonders to my curly/wavy hair💕👏❤
I don't even doubt twice to try this method since I tried the rice water rinse (that I first saw in your channe) and it works so good on me, my hair goes up to one week pretty clean and I just feel so fresh the first four days so thank you so much for doing real content and I'll try this method next!
becky med I’m glad it’s working for you! X
@@IsabellaDemarko :D
Also most people don't talk about this but using sulfates once a month or every 2 months is important to really give your scalp a good clean since sulfate- free shampoos aren't the best at that. Your scalp does need that super clean so bacteria doesn't build up and cause really bad irritations and itching.
First I want to be a hairstyler when I grow up I love watching your videos ❤️❤️
My mom has a recipe of using these ingredients to make a usable shampoo! We store it in the fridge for a week or so. She started making that because I was having a lot of hairfall. We all wash our hair using that for the past year, it really works :) btw I'm from india. Our ancestors have washed their hair using these ingredients only since a very long time. My grandmother also did, in her childhood. We all just forgot about it due to commercialization of everything and wanting a quick fix, I guess. So glad you found this stuff!😇
Isabella has the cutes teeth! The incisors are really pointy.
nizvkfb7vs bvrsct aw thank you! I’m missing my lateral inscisors and hoping to get them filled in straight soon x
Try J R liggets shampoo bar soap. I have used it for 5 plus years and I lose no hair in the shower. It's genuinely amazing and any regular shampoo is too harsh for me now. Your hair and my hair are basically the same but mines a little more wavy naturally (but super dry, fine, not very dense). If this soap power worked for you then I think the shampoo bar would work as well. You can get a little lather and it also doesn't leave residue. It also can't really wash out oil testaments unless you wash 3 or so times! I really hope you see this! 🙌 Best of luck
Just discovered your channel last night and I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos! I think you’re awesome!
my vegan hippie arse is loving this, wonder if it works well with the kinky curly hair I've been lumbered with 🙃 especially in between washing hair. I infuse shikaikai and amla with my hair oil 💖
holy cow, incredible hair day at the end!!!
Your hair is getting SO MUCH BETTER and it looks SO GOOOOOOD
Ty x
Omg yessss a new upload!!
Your hair is lush!! Natural beachy waves that lots of people would die for!
My hair is also dry and also sunburnt, so ppl think it's dyed, but its not.
Btw, dont use henna on dry hair! It ruined mine years ago so it took several years to grow them back.
I have the weirdest hair texture , its straight on the scalp till my ears and then goes wavy and then curls at the ends..
its very frizzy too so wat works for me is :
1. Shampoo one or twice a week
2. Dilute the shampoo with water (better to oil my hair before )
3. Condition my hair twice : apply conditioner then rinse it out then apply it again only on the ends and wait for a min or two then rinse it out
4. ACV rinse
5. Air dry , when 90% dry
6. braid it tightly (not too tight) or put it in a bun if u want big curls , overnight .
Done.
This reduces the frizz alot and gives my hair some definition too would really recommend u try ittt !!!
I like shikakai, aritha and amla too. I tend to make them into a super thick mud, paint it on my scalp and the first few cm of hair with a hair dye brush and let it sit in my hair for at least an hour before washing out. 🙂👍
IMPORTANT!! That curling gel has dimethicone (which is a type of silicone) in it which you want to avoid if you aren't using sulfates to wash because it will just build up in your hair and make it frizzy and dry. Maybe this is a different formula but it at very least USE to have dimethicone in it.
I have really curly hair (around 3c, maybe more) and what works best for me is to wash my hair, when it's still damp, a little more wet, and i put it into four sections. I twist them and put them into little buns on top of my head, i wake up, take them out and scrunch with gel. If it's not curly at some points, i will damp those parts and scrunch them will curling gel or normal gel and they look GREAT! I would reccomend it if you want them a little more defined! :)
I remember in our country LifeBuoy (I think) had a shikakai, reetha and amla shampoo (all in one). I don't know if it's still being sold though
Awesome and entertaining video! Your hair looks amazing! ☺️💜✨
Thank you for your videos Isabella! In this Ayurvedic Shampoo mix you should add Amla powder too (is amazing for hair grow!) and live the mix for a few hours or over night before use :)
My sister and I purchased this on amazon and I’m using it for the second time today. It really does wash your hair well! Gonna continue to use it! Thank you for this video 🙏🏼
Also, mix reetha if you want the foam. Its a natural foaming ingredient. Shikakai, aritha and Reetha are the combo
I’ve been binging your hair journey videos today and I swear it was destiny to find your channel 😩 My hair used to be straight when I was a child but it’s only gotten fizzier the last years. I’m going to try the curly girl hair method today and I really hope it helps me too! Thank you so much for all your amazing videos!
You should try washing your hair with rye flour. It just soaks up the oils on your scalp without any harsh chemicals. But try using non wholemeal flour, it's really hard to wash the leftover grains out if your hair.
Your hair is gorgeous and I’m so proud that you finally found a method that works for you xx
U can also use it as a hair mask too by mixing it with amla powder
Try adding 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of gum (guar/ xanthan etc or maybe cornflour) - it makes it into a less runny gel, so easier to apply.
Try using castor oil once a week for volume and hair growth. The oil itself is a little sticky and hard to remove from the scalp but it gives amazing results. The hair feels voluminous and shiny in just 2 uses.
Great job trying something manufactured in my country, try coconut oil and aloe vera next - I've used that method often.
Aritha powder is more useful for balancing excess oils than to treat frizz, coconut and aloe works to restore moisture better.
My grandmother used soap nut and shikakai on my hair when I was a child. My hair since then hasn’t fallen much and it’s always thick.
My hair is such an insecurity of mine. Its undyed , barely any heat damaged as well. But it's staightish wavy and and very dry looking , I have hair loss and above all its frizzy af. I love your channel and how much effort you put into taking of yourself!
Also YOUR HAIR LOOKED SO GOOD
I would recommend you to deep condition regularly. Protein treatments are good one a month, moisture treatments once a week after shampooing your hair, or how often you feel necessary, also use heat while doing this, 30 minutes under the dryer. My hair used to be a mess and wouldn’t grow AT ALL until I stated deep conditioning regularly. Hope this helps. Love watching your hair journey ❤️
I just bought these thanks to you, Isabella! I will keep you guys updated on my experience with this natural shampoo once I finish the whole boxes!
if it dries too much ... add Rice water(water from boiling/cooking rice. when you are making rice , you can scoop out water and store it in the fridge. If its red rice even better. )
Every Indian lady I've ever ever known has beautiful hair so there must be something to this stuff.
My hair is just like yours. I’ve never used a hair straightener or curler on my hair and I’ve blowed dried it like maybe 3 times in my whole life. My hair is just naturally super dry
you should try function of beauty shampoo and conditioner, its basically a hair website where you can make your own personalized hair products and set hair goals its super easy you can even choose the fragrance and things you want to see in your hair like for it to be longer or glossier etc.
Your hair looks so cute!!!! You are totally having a good hair day!!!
Hey I came here from your “hair journey” video and I just wanted to come to a new video to ask if you’ve tried the no poo method. Most people advocate for only using some kind of special kind of conditioner, but I had the same kind of issues with my hair so I shaved it and let it grow out, only washing with cool water and my hair type completely changed. After not washing it for a few weeks, my scalp regained its natural ability to cleanse itself, it became much more wavy than before, had a lot of form, didn’t get greasy or dry, and I love it. I’ve been growing it out for two years now and it’s shoulder length and I try to recommend it to everyone. If you want to do it you have to stick with it for multiple months though
To get the remaining powder out you can just take a towel and beat the devil out of your hair
That's not good for your hair. Don't scrub your hair with a towel.
Your hair looks really healthy! :D I’m a nobody but I’m really impressed with your results, especially since the massive hair journey you’ve been on/are on.
Yay I m so glad you uploaded 👏👏 I m experimenting on my super dry hair, wondering if it could be wavy in disguise and your vids are a huge help keep them coming :D
I ve never tried the powders you mention but use henna, cassia and sidr regularly, it completely transformed my hair !
I’m convinced we have the same exact hair, mine might be a bit curlier but that’s it lol
omg im so excited to use this! i found it in my moms cabinet and i had no idea it was a deep cleaner!
