As I understand it, Home Free has many (all) members test out the lead and then decided who fits the song the best. For me, that is the joy of Home Free, they really focus on the song over the singer and bring an amazing sound to life.

That's true though I heard that this one was different. Apparently Tim Faust has been pestering and badgering Austin to do this song for years but for some reason Austin wouldn't do it. That's what I heard anyway.

@@stephanginther9051 Austin felt he wouldn't be able to do the song justice. The success of his own solo career seems to have given him new confidence and there has been a great change in his voice for the better. There's also the Amberly factor - Austin and his gf are so totally in love that I think he felt that he knew how to handle it. The sorry mess of his love life for several years previously would tend to put anyone off singing about love!

My dear young girl, this is not Micheal Bolton's song. It belongs to the late great, immortal Percy Sledge. Micheal Bolton is one of many to cover this song, This cover is on another level, I see Percy Sledge smiling down from heaven. And if you notice he is sitting down in this performance.

Austin crushed this with his beautiful sky high tenor. The gorgeous harmonies supporting all throughout, and Adam Rupp's beat boxing/vocal percussion was fabulous. They now own this song. Yes. They can take your breath away. Home Frees' music has brought me to tears many times. I totally understand. I have laugh/cried from the joy of their music. There is no ego in Home Free. Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

Well add one more to Austin's list of slayed ladies.....he just does it everytime. Percy Sledge did the original back in 1966. Home Free takes a song & they demo it, and decide who sings it the best, and then go with it. Never heard of any disagreements, and it's usually pretty much unanimous. These guys seem to have not much ego....it's what's best for Home Free, not themselves. I'd like to give you a few more recommendations from Home Free.... One-Man Band, Amazed, Dive Bar Saints (an original), Born in the USA, Sea Shanty Medley. Make you feel my love (a Valentines Day gift to the ladies, it's humorous), and American Pie (featuring Don McLean original artist, for the song's 50th anniversary)

I remember the original by Percy Sledge in 1966. Ladies at the time had much the same reaction to
the song as you did now :-) Austin has a once in a generation tenor voice--I've never been disappointed
hearing him sing. Thanks for the reaction. The original is also worth a listen. I like to compare covers
to the original artist's version. For instance Dimash covered Adagio, originally sung by Lara Fabian,
and listening to Lara's 1999 version showed me why Dimash thinks of her as one of his idols.

I've been hopping around on CZcams checking out this group performing this song to see what reactors felt about it. And I've come across a few ladies totally enraptured with it. There was even one reactor doing the reaction with his retired parents listening in, and his mama was floored. She likely grew up listening to the original, and I know her husband was going to get 'lucky' later that night. And I can see you were affected similarly.
I should also mention, also in line with the deep emotionality of this performance, that two reactors I came across, macho black men in their late 20s or early 30s whose woman had just left them, were literally left in tears. They struggled to get through the song, because it reached into the very heart of their recent experience in love. So this song and this performance is full of true experience.
Yeah, with Austin's first syllable, the power in this is established and unrelenting. The backup is perfect, providing places of strength for each lyric launch. And you were fun to watch trying to take in and digest the power of it. I have to wonder how much you blushed while listening to this, because you KNEW your reaction was authentic, honest, and unhidden. And thank you for your courage in doing so. You could have broken up the barrage with pauses, but you went straight through. Kudos, girl.
So enjoyed this. So loved living this vicariously through you. Keep it up!

This song has a very primal connection with most women. Without them even realizing it, it strikes a cord deep within their psyche and stirs their soul. Some would say it fuels their desire and kickstarts the libido in some women. I can see that. All from something as simple as music. Tim (the bass) kept saying they needed to do this song with Austin as lead. Austin was resisting it because he felt no one could top Micheal Bolton. So, Tim, being Tim, called Micheal Bolton and got his blessing for them to do the song with Austin in lead. So glad Tim did! It perfectly shows Austin's abilities. Home Free is open to letting one person take lead. And they fully support each members other endeavors be it writing, singing or podcasts. So nice to know they really are friends.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 Před rokem

I don't believe the story about Bolton. No way would HF seek someone's "blessing" except as a joke on Twitter, particularly when Austin clearly had a very different idea of how to handle the song. It's worth remembering that for many years Austin was their go-to lead singer and you don't humiliate your lead singer by asking someone else's permission for them to sing a song (remembering Bolton's horrible version was only a cover). It is much more likely that (as I have also heard) Austin at that time didn't feel he could do the song justice. There has been such a change in his voice over the recent year or two that he probably felt he could do it. I suspect, too, that the mess his private life had been in before Amberly made him feel he would be unconvincing as the man who knows about true love, whereas the deep happiness and joy he had found with her meant he understood the song completely.

@@patriciamcl54 That may be what you think but I am fairly certain I watched an interview with Tim stating that it took a little encouragement to get Austin to do it. He was concerned about "stepping on Micheal Bolton's toes". Not saying Bolton's was better or asking for a blessing but out of respect. Especially considering the health issues Micheal Bolton has been going through. And I am fully aware that Bolton's version was also a cover. And in Home Free, there is no "lead singer". Never has been unless you only go by the Sing Off. They have always traded off leads. I don't see it as humiliating. I see it as a mark of professional respect to contact Micheal Bolton. Something that Home Free would do.

Great to see you and Home Free again, Molly, thanks! HF did a great job with this; Austin was unbelievable, the harmonies were perfect, and Adam's percussion was stellar as always. It IS hard to remember voices are the instruments. BTW, Michael Bolton's version was a cover as well. Percy Sledge is the original artist, back in the sixties. (I was, ahem, there to hear it 😳😄😄)

Molly that's why Home Fries love you. We don't need some vocal coach or semi singer that is not in Home Free league to tell us how great they are!!! We already know 😂

I've seen quite a few reactions of yours, along with many other reactors ... I have to say that your reaction made me watch yours a couple of times... not only for the great performance, which it is, rather, to selfishly enjoy your imparted emotions. Know that connections made through great music is a very personal experience and yours to this song by Austin was certainly worth a few watches. The ecstatic joy you were feeling was fully transmitted through your most honest way, which gives others a small look into your true personality. Thank you for allowing us voyeurs to join in, along with your enthusiasm. I wish you much wellness and may God Bless!

Don't sweat lack of technical expertise in the elements of music. You bring a profound understanding of what your senses witness; a deep grasp of what's going on behind what's going on; and a gift for putting into punchy, penetrating words the essence of the human spirit. You're a pro, sure enough.

It's knowing that someone else can feel human and express it that well. Beautiful thing. I thought of the ego thing as well. He has such a great voice, but who's to say that the other guys just didn't know how to prop him up with their talent as well? Maybe they know exactly how to bring his voice to the forefront better than any musician ever could. Fantastic either way, and so was your review. Very beautiful.

Are you in love yet? 😏 I know I am. And I'm an old lady. 🤣 When I first started listening to Home Free, it was Tim who captured my heart.....because I have always preferred baritones and basses. Austin has converted me. He is now my favorite singer in the business today. Can't wait to see them in July. Check out his solo version of Unchained Melody on his site.
