HUMBUCKER vs SINGLE COIL - The Telecaster Sound Test!

- Today I'm comparing and contrasting the humbucker and single coil sounds on a telecaster-style guitar. I'll describe each pickup and what it's function is, as well as give a sound test for each (and a third option at the end *wink wink*).

All the guitars sounded great. The biggest difference in sound to me was at the 5:00 minute mark with the custom tele. When you started playing those heavy chords over a fast beat that humbucker really starts putting in some work to fill lots of sonic space. Great video dude!

All good. I think the single coils the way to go because with technology these days I can easily fatten the single coils and they cut through heavy distortion well where as it's harder to thin out an already fat tone, imo.
Totally agree. The humbucker sounds a bit too wooly as well.

What kind of telecaster is that? I’m trying to make/ partcaster a similar one humbucker telecaster almost exactly like that (ala Laura Grace nash tele)
I think all three pickups have their place in music for sure. Guitars and pickups are like paint colors for songs. One song might sound awesome with the rawness of the single coil, but there's no denying the all out attack of a humbucker. But, a P-90 just has an attitude at all times that the other cannot come close to.
I was definitely a little surprised at the bite of the P-90, it's a rocker for sure.
@@ZackRyan When I get my other Rickenbacker squared away, you should do a pickup shootout between them. Rickenbacker Hi-Gains (Black Guitar) vs. Vintage Rickenbacker Toasters (Natural Guitar)... And not play Beatles songs like every other Rickenbacker video on CZcams.

Good to see someone playing some Punk rawk 🤘. Humbuckers for the distortion. Singles for clean imo.
Why are there two selector switches on the Fender if there's only one pickup?
The switch on the top is a killswitch, and the pickup "selector" splits the humbucker for a more single coil type sound.

Tele with single coil and a hambucker is the definitive guitar.

Sorry but single coils on a Tele will always get my vote.....
There is only one telecaster sound and that it single coil. Anything else is not a telecaster. And that humbucker guitar sounded like warmed up puke.
