*Lisa's fantastic, I love her to bits. She grew up four doors from us in Rochdale (Lancashire), and we went to the same school, though she's two years older. Just a two-up two-down terraced house like most of the housing in Rochdale in the 70's. Nothing posh or fancy. But the very first thing she did when she became successful, was pay off her mam and dad's mortgage. Then as she became even more successful, she bought them a lovely 3-bed detached bungalow with a lovely big back garden for their dogs ('Stan' and 'Ollie') to run around. Still in Rochdale mind, but on the outskirts - a bit more rural. But she still always comes round whenever she's in the UK, and spends as much time as she can with family and friends. And despite her exciting/exotic lifestyle (at least compared to living in Rochdale anyway!) she hasn't changed a bit. Not one iota. When she's over she comes down to the local pub, plays pool (very badly LOL), and even belts out a song or two, Sometimes without any musicians there at all - accapella? Anyway she still has a fantastic voice in any case. Still a very normal and down to earth lass but she spends a lot of time writing songs these days, and living in an absolutely massive/beautiful 'loft apartment' overlooking Central Park, and with a huge walk around outdoor balcony. It's just stunning. Pity our 'loft' is nothing like that! Anyway sorry for rambling on JV and everyone else, oops! Take care all, love and best wishes to you.*
Thanks for sharing!
I got to see the house she grew up in. I too live in Rochdale 😅 what a small world.
She bought a bungalow for the dogs?! Man that is posh!!
@@hgbb16 You're very welcome Hanzel x.
@@Haiyan25 Really? Do you still live in Rochdale? I'm dying to ask whereabouts, but please don't go into any detail here for your own sake x.
When she performed this live at the Apollo in 1990 the audience went crazy. This is a classic gem 🔥🔥🔥
Yes!!!
Go Lisa!
Go Lisa!
Go Lisa!
Go Lisa!
🤓
It was a great live performance! 💃🏽
Definitely 1 of the best voices coming out of the UK ever.
I remember that performance. She shut it down. Standing ovation!
You're young, you just only began to scratch the surface, there's more blue eyed soul songs out there 😂😂
There's a video of her singing this at the Apollo. Amazing. You should check it out. The crowd chants "Go Lisa, Go Lisa..."
She's British and did this song in a duet with Barry White. You should check it out.🎤🎶🌴
I LUV LUV LUV that one!!!!
This version is good but the duet is a lot better
@@danielmora5554 yessss!
I did not know she sang with Barry White. I was little back then, just remembered her songs.
Yes, this song definitely sounds inspired by Barry White. When I heard them do it together, it was perfection.
You Can’t Deny it- Lisa Stansfield. Yeah we were all shocked at her soulful voice back in the day. She’s the real deal!
This is the real deal ! She took America by storm ! I love this one to this very day ! Your reaction is AWESOME ! SHE DID THAT !
She is from the North of England, check out her other hits " All Woman " " The Real Thing " both great tracks ❤️
The Real thing is great! ✨
Yes All Woman...is my fav
This Is The Right Time is a bop
Woah totally forgot about all woman..what a track!!
The Real Thing is an incredible song!
There was once a genre called "blue eyed soul", mostly referring to the guys that sung with soul but there were a few women in there as well. George Michael, Daryl Hall, Simply Red, Jimmy Somerville, etc. Check 'em out!
Lisa is a great singer, plus she is a really good actress as well. If you hear her speak in her northern English accent that will freak you out too.
Aye she's from Bolton..love her accent
She was the Mum in the film Northern Soul, brilliant.
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 Rochdale
Jovaughn I was about to go to sleep it’s almost 1:30 AM in the UK 🇬🇧 but I can’t resist listening to Lisa Stansfield and couldn’t wait to hear your reaction to her and I’m so glad I did. I love this song so much and I’m so happy you love her too she has that Northern England soul. ❤️🇬🇧
Same here..this takes me back to such a great time in my life..lets face it 80's music was banging 🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍🐾🐾👏👏
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 & @Zoe Orell. It sure was AND she sure has! Love Lisa's voice on this one! 😍🇬🇧
@@jana7514 and i absolutely adore All Woman.. the lyrics are quite sad and she sings it with such feeling..
1:20 uk lol
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 Yes!! Now this has to be my number 1 hit of hers!Incredible and such a touching video.
She sang with George Michael in the Freddie Mercury's tribute concert, they did an amazing version of These Are the Days of Our Lives.
You beat me to this comment. Having Queen backing them up was pretty cool too.
That was a great performance!
💃🔥💃🔥 She can sang!!
I forgot to mention you reacted the same with Rick Astley. 😄 You're reactions are priceless!
I remember when she performed this song on Showtime At The Apollo back in the day, and the Harlem crowd gave her much love.
Not only would you think she wasn't necessarily white without seeing her,if you heard her broad Rochdale accent you would never believe she could sing like an angel. Gorgeous looking too ☺️
There was a reason she had 3 number 1 singles on the Billboard R&B charts. Lisa can blow. My favorite! 🔥🔥🔥
First of all, this song is major Nostalgia for me. My mom loved this song when it came out and as a result so did I! Still takes me back to being about 7- 8 years old
I haven't thought about this song in over 25 years :D I had to call my wife out from the office, she was the same but the two of us still knew all the lyrics off by heart!
She is very under rated and has a mesmerizing voice
The word underrated now means something I like isn't popular
@@bentucker2301 Still means underrated to me and to the knobhead that said it.
Lisa Stansfield has a great voice and she had a string of hits in the late eighties and early nineties! She is British and she still performs. I love this song and her hits "All Woman" and "Change"! 💖💖
When that came out, we were all stunned by her voice and her style. The song was a real hit back then!
She does a great cover of Barry White's "Never Never Gonna Give You Up", and you'd love the video!
Lisa’s amazing listen to “all woman” my friend saw her in Toronto a couple of year’s ago and she’s still got it! Her selfie with Lisa is now a treasured possession 😅
I love that song!
Ah Lisa was from Rochdale, just a couple of miles away from me. If you heard her speaking you wouldn't think it was her singing this either, with her strong Rochdale accent! This went to number 1 in the UK on the night of my 6th form college disco that Me and a friend arranged in the back room of a pub in Eccles, called the Devonshire Arms, (previously Addison's) Watch her perform this with Barry White 🙂
Jovaughn “I’m right here”, “I’ve never heard a woman say they were wrong”, “Oh, no he ain’t coming back” but “I’m right here”. I absolutely love Lisa Stansfield and your reaction to her was so genuine. I especially love the duet she did with George Michael at the Queen Tribute Concert for Freddie Mercury. You will find it under Queen + George Michael & Lisa Stansfield “These are the days of our lives”. It would be worthwhile if you haven’t reacted to George Michael’s rendition of “Killer” by Seal and “Papa was a rolling stone” by the Temptations, which is known as Killer (Papa was a rolling stone). While you’re at it maybe listen to the original by Seal - Killer or his song “Crazy”. All fantastic singer songwriters. Thank you so very much Jovaughn I really loved your reaction!
Jumping on to say YES PLEASE TO "Killer (Papa Was a Rolling Stone)" by George Michael! It's 11 minutes long BUT it goes by in a flash!
@@U2hansolo It’s worth the time! What a brilliant combination of songs, you would have thought it is a George Michael original!
Jovaughn if you are able to react to this, the live version at 6:21 is the best!
Yes!WOuld love to hear a reaction to any of these.George Micheal ,my all time favourite Male artist!R.I.P George ,you`re very much missed but your music keeps us alive.x
When you consider this was 1988, being a 5'1" British girl. Lisa has pipes. When she rubbed the stump at the Apolo she had the crowd in seconds. You have to be in the business to know what it takes to rock the boat for anyone. She killed it 10 seconds in. By the time Lisa was done, phones were ringing off the hook everywhere
The year of my birth !
5'4".
Just watched that performance!Wow ,what an amazing crowd and Lisa definitely nailed it!!:)
_The_ song of 1989. Her *Live At The Apollo* performance of this track is worth checking out. Legendary moment. An underrated career, more Lisa hits:
- Never, Never Gonna Give You Up
- Never Gonna Fail
- Live Together
You Can't Deny It, is also very good. One of my favorites from her.
She has a gorgeous, deep and soulful sound. We totally get you!
My Japanese ex was Lisa’s hair stylist for this video and might have done her make-up too. He also appears in one frame of the ring of guys who surrounded Lisa as she was swung forwards and backwards in the middle of the circle. It was filmed at Borehamwood (where James Bond 007 is filmed) early one morning.
You’re not the first to think from her voice she was a Black singer. My next ex was an African-American and thought exactly the same when he first heard the song.
Now my partner of 17+ years is a Jamaican, and we live near Lisa’s home town of Rochdale, but that’s a whole different story. 👍🏻
I listened to this album all through my double math class at high school, with one ear piece threaded up my sleeve. ON MY WALKMAN. Still have the same cassette, too!!! It’s a fantastic album, end to end. Thanks Jay for this happy flashback 🥰💜 Edited to add: she has a duet with George Michael from the FREDDIE MERCURY TRIBUTE CONCERT April 20, 1992 concert album-they sing THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and she holds her own against George’s vocals (which is high praise from me) 🙌🏼🔥
Lisa Stansfield, now that's taking me back. So many good songs. If you like female singers with powerful voices, I recommend Sam Browne and Stop! Also, to switch it up a bit, for some Irish flavour, I recommend Janet Devlin who's relatively new but she has a sweet voice with a pop/country/Irish sound. Holy Water, Better Now are a couple of my faves.
Sam Brown- Stop is a really good song from that era loved that one.
She's got an amazing voice. Very soulful and funky music as well. Her debut album is perfect.
The Real Thing from 1997 is defintitely worth checking out, great song, great lyrics, great videos.
According to an interview she gave in 2019 this song was really quick to write and record. She turned up at the studio and her recording partner was messing around on the piano and the chorus just came to her straightaway. 2 takes later and the strings added in post production and the song was done. Now its a classic and probably her biggest hit
A Diva!! A soulful Diva!! She's a legend!! Her voice is amazing!! She's from England btw
In addition to being one of those British blue-eyed soul types, Lisa Stansfield STUNNED people when she looked completely different on every album. She was something of a shapeshifter fashionista type. All the while, though, her voice... amazing.
Yeah bit of a fashionista, but really down to earth. If you took her out for egg and chips she'd be dead happy.
Both Lisa Stansfield and I think it was Rick Astley you might have been trying to remember are from the North West of England where I am from. I was lucky enough to see them in concerts back in the day and were brilliant. Their voices are pure gold and the look she had back then was stunning. Thanks for doing this song and I'm sure you wont be disappointed if you were to do more of her hits
Rick Astley came from N-L-W (Newton-le-Willows, St. Helens, Lancs). He dated a local girl who used to work at the local Woolworths shop. He ditched her after he hit the fame with, Never Gonna Give You Up.
@@PixelProfessor Well there's a contradiction of sorts then! Wonder if she worked in the record department Woollies used to have? Good old Woollies with their Pick N' Mix hey!
Oh man, I LOVE this song. Such an underrated artist in the USA! SOUL! It’s kind of like being “Rick rolled” by a female.
One of the best female vocalist ever. It you want to hear powerful and unique, please listen to Teena Marie and Cheryl Lynn. There are no other voices out there that come close to them. Truly unique
❤️Teena Marie❤️ “Lovergirl” makes all the aunties get on the dance floor, love it.
Yes! No one seems to know if Teena Marie, she’s got an amazing voice.
Fire and Desire by Rick James and Teena Marie is a perfect song to really hear the vocals of both these powerhouse artists.
@@tasintina3046 and amazing guitarists too, hot damn!
@@ButchieTuffington I couldn't agree with you more! He was such a talent, a musical genius.
You should watch when she sang this at the Apollo in Harlem. It was so great to see the crowd's reaction.
This song is not only a favorite of mine, it comes attached with many past memories.
@Charlene Rogers I hope that you found your baby.
Me too
Same here - coming of age for me!
Go On Lisa!!.. Northern And Proud..She Grew Up Around The Northern Soul Scene In The UK And Her Voice Is Just Amazing..GT Memories Of This Song..🇬🇧
Lisa is to this day one of my favorite singers, unfortunately she only had two hits in the U.S. but she's got 10 albums or more under her belt. ❤ her!
Lisa us one of my favourite singers great uniqie voive and co wrote this song with her hubby .I too Rochdale is my hometown.Glad you enjoyed the song ❤
It's been a long time since I've heard this. Actually bought the CD back in the day. She still sounds fantastic.👍😁📀🎶❤️
I bought the 45rpm
I like her voice!!! This a jam for sure.
Bobby Caldwell - What you Won't Do for Love. 🙌
He reacted to Bobby C His face was priceless!! LOOOL
@@tawnyh8878 lol I live for his reactions! Honest and real. And it definitely was priceless. lol
This song was a big hit and everywhere, but I stop and listen even decades later, it's so good!!
Me too
Love this gal, the look , style and sound. Outstanding!
Surely one of the most underrated UK singers. I love her
Now this is a blast from the past.. Thanks haven't heard her for years going to be looking her up now. She's a Mancunian beauty.. Cheer's 🇬🇧
Wow! It’s 2022 And it’s 2022 She IS AWESOME And We Love ❤️ HER!!!
OMG I certainly remember this song. When it came out I was in junior high. Definitely a blast from the past.Props to you Jayvee another good reaction video.
Love the strings in this......That Soul 11 Soul influence was strong in this!!
ha yeah thirty years later and ive only just noticed that ! doh
A lot of people were caught off guard. I remember where I was when this song came out. Great memories in San Diego, Ca.
This was and still is one of my favorite songs. Her voice is incredible and that soul added with the catchy tune... is 100%.
So underrated! I love this ladys voice!
She only had a few big hits but has a huge following anyway.
I happened to see her in concert & boy! She rocked the joint
Tremendous voice range! Shes more jazzy blues but so magnetic
🇬🇧👧
He is so pure😃 love to see his reactions. I was little when her music dropped but I remember everyone reacted the same way to seeing her for the first time. Priceless.
Not only a performer/singer but she has also written songs for others most notably Dionne Warwick(Friends can be lovers) And her music has appeared on soundtracks for movies as well. She was one of the invited artists at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert in 1992 where she performed 'I Want To Break Free'. A proud Northerner from the north-west of England
I love this song and this lady is a great singer. She surprised me back in the day and I think she is from another country. She has plenty of soul. You are too cute my brother, I am right here.
Lisa Stansfield found you!!
Damn! This is soooo cool!
I’ve loved her day 1
Bravo!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love this song and Lisa has a wonderful voice. Your reactions were brilliant and when you said is that her singing you repeated what many people said when they first realized that she was white. I understand she still has her accent which is amazingly wonderful, Lisa is from Northern England and there as many different accents here which I have always enjoyed listening to. You have always been thorough with your reactions both of the singers and the musicians, your love of music through the decades shines through and I am sure that is why so many of us have subscribed to your channel sweetheart. God bless you all love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
See if you can get any clips of Lisa Stansfield talking Jay, she’s got the broadest Rochdale accent that’ll again hit you WAY off guard
THIS IS THE JAM ❤
One of my favorite songs. And it's one of those songs that brings back memories of where you were and what you were doing every time it came on the radio. Love it
Play Taylor Dayne, what a voice she has.
Yes on Taylor !
Yes Taylor Dayne - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love and Love Will Lead You Back.
Taylor Dayne! Yes please
Yes! Especially "Original Sin", that one is amazing!
All Woman, Change, and The Real Thing are all amazing songs from this talented human being. She is from a little town near me.
At last! A great great singer. Absolutly underrated. Kisses from Spain.
I love, love, love Lisa Stansfield. When this song used to come on MTV, I used to dance around the house like a swirling dervish. My husband would laugh at me and say, why does this song make you CRAZY!
Jovaughn I've been waiting for you to do this one for a long time! It's a timeless hit.
G'day it's Steven from Down Under
Love this song
It's easily one of my many 80's favourites
It reminds me of when I met my wife
Always loved Lisa's unique voice, I miss her voice. Glad you enjoyed it Jay.😎👌🎵
Was a killer to dance to, face to face, tight, almost tango, then turn, turn and into.... the big lift, and the crowd goes wild!!!!!
God I wish I could still move like I did then....
Thanks for the memories J
Yes Jay, Lisa is fantastic vocally, so many songs all diff tempos, fab artist..Try Suzanne or All Woman..🙂
Review Teena Marie. She's was a soul sister/sista! I love Teena. Some of her best was when she was on Motown & some songs with Rick James. Berry Gordy purposely didn't put her pic on the cover of her 1st album since he wanted her to be heard. It worked. When people found out she not black, they were shocked. She was so smooth & her personality too. She was definitely invited to the cookout! Square Biz, Young Love, Casanova Brown, Fire & Desire (with Rick James), Lovergirl, I Need Your Lovin', Portuguese Love. You can't go wrong with Lady Tee! R.I.P. 💖
Don't forget if I were a bell. My personal favorite Teena Marie song.
I was just listening to Fire and Desire duet with Rick James. Absolutely love that song❤ brings me back in time.
OMG JAYVEEEEEEE! I love her! She's the real deal! Her sultry voice is amazing, please react to more of her music, such as: People Hold On, You Can't Deny It, This Is The Right Time, Someday, and All Woman.
God I love this woman. Amazing voice and just such a lovely person from what I hear. I was in awe watching her on stage at the Freddie tribute concert.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, i love watching your reactions to the music that I was brought up with. The songs that you are listening to will never be forgotten. The musicians of the 50's/90's played instruments and the lyrics were audible, they were full of energy. This music brings back so many happy and sad memories. 💛💛🎵🎶
You should watch Anastacia - "I'm outta love"! Might surprise you like this, haha. Both Lisa Stansfield and Anastacia have been on the Radio all the time, at least where I am☺
Agree completely
Totally agree with you. Anastacia is my favourite female solo artist.
Another one of my Favorites!!!!! One of my all time FAVORITES ❣️❣️❣️. Everybody was digging this back in the TODAY ❣️
I've been a fan of Lisa Stansfield for many years - but such a delight to share your first experience of her work. Can I suggest another track of hers: "All Woman" - really heartfelt.
I own Lisa's earlier recordings album and some of her earlier vinyls (signed) by Lisa herself. I used to go to her house after school sometimes and get her to play her old razzmatazz videos. She hated them. We were in a school production together and recorded some of the songs from the production at Cargo studios in Rochdale, the same studio Joy Division recorded at. Still not been able to locate those recordings. Lisa sounded more like Kylie Minogue on her earlier recordings. Now she sounds like a soul singer. Love her. Xxxx
My favourite song from her is Change. But also check out other greats like All Woman, Live Together, Set Your Loving Free, You Can’t Deny It, In All The Right Places, Time To Make You Mine.
ooooooooooooooooooooooh! This was a surprise!..........was not expecting to see this little masterpiece on your show!
This was my jam back in the olden days. I can't remember how old I was but I sang this with my hairbrush in the livingroom.
Lisa is a true northerner, she was from Rochdale in Manchester( term used for someone who lives in the North of England) i was 17 when this song came out in 89 and i was on holiday in Spain, and the pubs had this playing but the fast uptempo version. go check out some of her other amazing hits, This is the right time, All Woman, The Real Thing.
I’ve known this song since I was 8 years old, I’m 40 next week! I had never heard her speak until a few weeks ago on an old CZcams interview and I heard her Northern Accent I almost lost my mind! She sounded nothing like I would’ve imagined.
Fantastic reaction. Would really love to see you her song "Change" next. Another stunner.
She actually did a duet of this song with Barry White. It’s EPIC!!!!
Lisa Stansfield &George Michael live with song Days of our lives (song performed by Freddie Mercury before) i love them to sing this song together!♥️
So glad you reacted to this, massive voice, massive hit.
Her cover of Barry White's "Never Gonna Give You Up" is fire as well.
Another great artist out of The UK. We feel the soul , our mixture of cultures produce great artist
That was a time when voices were still easily distinguishable.
"Bamboozled and catch' you slippin'..." LOL ~ You are funny, Jayvee ~!!
"She's admitted that she's wrong...I never heard a girl do this before" ~ You crack me up ~Thanks for the laughs, Jayvee ~*
We all were taken with Lisa, her voice is stunning.👍🏽
But haven't heard, think she's still trying to find him!! 😂🤣
My favorite of hers is time to make you mine. I recommend Kylie minogue and the song Confide in me. It's a tuuuuune
she was my fav as a little kid, another one i really loved from her was "You Can't Deny It'. maybe you can check that one out as well. glad you reacted to this!
We women admit when we're wrong, it's just that we're wrong so infrequently 😋
Love Lisa's voice and style 🎶🎵
Born in Rochdale near Manchester England - an absolute legend!!!!
The first time I saw Lisa was on Granada Reports ( local news) when she was about 14, I knew then that she was going to be a star. A few years ago she was part of the production team for the movie Northern Soul.
Jeez this brings me back, been with my husband since 1988, so these songs get me, I was 14 and he was 15, yes we are late 40’s now. Where does the time go
