Hello Caleb I have bought a Velo bag on Vinted. I'am not sure it's an authentic because there's only 1 pocket inside and the strap is not in one part. The Lady who sells thé bag told me that she bought it in 2012. How can I found out if it's an original one or à copy ? Many thanks 🙂

I just fell in love with the motorcycle bag. Every time when I saw it I was like I want more colors even though it’s the same model. It’s just easy to use and I just felt like it fits my wardrobe style. Love this clip a lot and I want to know where to snatch more!!!!!!

I have my in the black city small 2yrs ago. Unfortunately I lost the mirror recently after a day out :( too bad when I only used it a few time. 2yrs ago they said it’s not a good invest and don’t hold its value. I don’t care, I love it the style to bits :) and now I realized I made the right decision to buy it the. because they don’t sold it anymore and changed the design. That said, mine now is a classic of the brand and will always be an it bag historically ♥️ love the video 🥰

I have the same cream Balenciaga bag with aged brass hardware and it has a small brown stain on the leather. Thank God its not green . I bought it at NY Balenciaga store I think back then was $1100-1300 + tax. Looking forward to your video on how to moisturize the bag. . I ordered a bag organizer from Samorga to keep it in shape. TY For the information
I love that! Now, is the brown stain near a seam? It could be oxidized glue from when the bag was made. I have a spot or two like that on one of mine. I need to do some research, but I promise a moisturizing video is coming! Let me know what you think of the organizer!

I love the look of that Moto style, always did, but at the time I went for a similar style from Botkier, the Trigger bag, which was a higher-priced contemporary brand, I think around $600, and sold at luxury department stores. Beautiful leathers, gorgeous bags. Unfortunately that brand has since fallen off a cliff and become totally irrelevant, and now sells dull nothing styles at bargain basement prices 😭 And I no longer have my beautiful pearl white Trigger! Should have gone for the City Bag...

Hi! Love your work Caleb. I was just looking at a City on eBay and after watching your video I think it may be a copy. The stitching through the authentication tab (with the silver plate) is the same colour as the bag, not black and the tab seems to be stitched down. It is a tan colour bag with a “C” indicating either FW2016 or SS2004 and reference back to the charts you linked to, the tan colour does not appear in those particular years, but in the previous year. So yeah, I’m so glad I watched your video!

@@CalebSnell i have raised it with the seller and she doesn't seem to think it is a copy (poor thing). Also the mirror is in its original packaging and apparently these bags were originally sold with the mirror attached to the bag, not seperate. Anyway, someone has bid on it so i feel sorry that they are not getting what they think they are getting. Again I thank you for a solid video - you sure did save me from an expensive mistake!

I bought a preloved balenciaga city (lagon blue) for $250 and the handles were quite dark and there were some edging cracks. I was hoping my bag repair/bag spa person could clean it, but he said degreasing the handles will likely lighten the color a lot and it won’t be as shiny as before. Been trying to find more info on it. I loved the color but maybe trying to fix up one in poor condition isn’t as good as paying more for one in better condition. What do you think about paying less for something that requires repair?

Hi Aminata! It's so hard to date giant hardware bags since they usually didn't get date codes. With GH bags, I usually go off of the color/hardware combo, but black was a mainstay for Balenciaga bags, so that's kind of hard. If you want to send me photos of the bag and the paper tag on instagram- I would be happy to take a look for you!

@@robind2727 that’s a tough choice! The lighter colors definitely require a little more care- but the Praline is gorgeous. You also can’t go wrong the gray/black- like I said- it’s a tough choice!
@@CalebSnell It was a tough choice! Ugh! I went with a City bag in Gris Tarmac with Giant 12 Silver hardware. It is beautiful and shows very, very little signs of wear. Got it from Yoogi’s. I really like that place. Got my first Chanel from them. I did discover something unusual with the bag that I did end up talking with them about. It is a 2013 and it has tan/brownish cords/lace which I remember you saying the laces should match the bag. They said they did some research and found others in the Gris Tarmac with the same tan color laces but only in 2013, so it must be a style choice by Balenciaga that year. Thanks for all your helpful advice!

Thank you so much! That's so exciting, the City is the perfect bag, and I love the Giant hardware! It can be hard finding the perfect strap, but you could try Fashiophile- they sometimes get just a strap in stock, or maybe a leather restoration place could make a custom one to match. I also think that some of the straps from Fendi can look really cool with the Balenciaga styling! 😍

Hi Caleb. You asked about my Balenciaga model and it's exactly like the blue one you display in the video. The one with the extra large hardware. Anyway, I know you know about this scandal. There are people harassing Balenciaga wearing folk and bullying them to take off the Balenciaga piece. One was told to take off her long scarf and they followed her until she went and got another scarf. You can't accuse and bully people who bought the bag before the incident/scandal. Of course the scandal is horrible, but bullying and embarassing people who spent thousands on a designer piece to throw it away is assinine I'm gonna lay low for now until this boils over. Thoughts.....
The Work is such a great bag! I agree, I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion, and I'm ready to move onto a new topic. I do feel like there are a lot of points that people aren't bringing up when talking about the incident at Balenciaga, or the timeline of events, so I do plan to make a video addressing it after the new year. I'm waiting to see if more information comes to light before I make my opinion video.
Good catch! I think the black stitching through the tag only applies when it’s attached directly under the zipper pocket. I noticed that the envelope clutches with pocket have the same thing. Good eye!
Great question! I love Fashionphile, Yoogi's Closet or Rebag- of the 3 FP and YC have the better pricing, but Rebag does get some neat colors from time-to-time.

Do Balenciaga City Bag colors get darker as they age? I'm not sure what color to aim for as I don't want the color to become "blanked out" but I don't mind if the color changes if that makes sense?
The lighter colors get darker, and the darker colors get lighter. The best thing to do is make sure to keep them out of the sun and avoid oils on the leather.
@@CalebSnell What would you recommend of the medium darkish blue shades? I wouldn't mind if it got lighter personally as I think it would add character.

Hi Ashley! Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy them! Black with Rose Gold Hardware is a stunning combo! And that's a really great question 🤔 Rose Gold hardware has a natural darkness and patina to it. I think the patina added to the hardware by Balenciaga is the only thing making it different from the actual gold hardware they used😆 I did a search through The Purse Forum Balenciaga thread and couldn't find anything about polishing RGHW. Someone mentioned Windex at one point, but I don't know how legit that is and I wouldn't recommend it. 😬 I wish I could be of more help, but if you try anything, let me know what works!

Hi! I have a Balenciaga small city edge in black bought in 2019, I barely use it and just store it inside of its dust bag inside a closet. I notice that the knot starting to become greenish(?) along with the side of the tassel, any tips to avoid/fix it?
Hi Allison! So what I think is happening is: verdigris. This is when the hardware starts to tarnish and leaves behind a gunky green mess. The best way to take care of it, is to take a toothpick and lightly and very carefully scrape it off the affected hardware and tassel. One of mine does this occasionally so I have to keep an eye on it.

I have my in the black city small 2yrs ago. Unfortunately I lost the mirror recently after a day out :( too bad when I only used it a few time. 2yrs ago they said it’s not a good invest and don’t hold its value. I don’t care, I love it the style to bits :) and now I realized I made the right decision to buy it the. because they don’t sold it anymore and changed the design. I have the same cream Balenciaga bag with aged brass hardware and it has a small brown stain on the leather. Thank God its not green . I bought it at NY Balenciaga store I think back then was $1100-1300 + tax. Looking forward to your video on how to moisturize the bag. . I ordered a bag organizer from Samorga to keep it in shape. I love that! Now, is the brown stain near a seam? It could be oxidized glue from when the bag was made. I have a spot or two like that on one of mine. I need to do some research, but I promise a moisturizing video is coming! Let me know what you think of the organizer!

I love the look of that Moto style, always did, but at the time I went for a similar style from Botkier, the Trigger bag, which was a higher-priced contemporary brand, I think around $600, and sold at luxury department stores. Beautiful leathers, gorgeous bags. Unfortunately that brand has since fallen off a cliff and become totally irrelevant, and now sells dull nothing styles at bargain basement prices 😭 And I no longer have my beautiful pearl white Trigger! Should have gone for the City Bag...

Hi! Love your work Caleb. I was just looking at a City on eBay and after watching your video I think it may be a copy. The stitching through the authentication tab (with the silver plate) is the same colour as the bag, not black and the tab seems to be stitched down. It is a tan colour bag with a “C” indicating either FW2016 or SS2004 and reference back to the charts you linked to, the tan colour does not appear in those particular years, but in the previous year. So yeah, I’m so glad I watched your video!

Also the mirror is in its original packaging and apparently these bags were originally sold with the mirror attached to the bag, not seperate. Anyway, someone has bid on it so i feel sorry that they are not getting what they think they are getting. Again I thank you for a solid video - you sure did save me from an expensive mistake!

Wow this video was awesome!! Thank you! Can’t wait for part 2. And wow on the chèvre! I was so excited for you!! I bought a preloved balenciaga city (lagon blue) for $250 and the handles were quite dark and there were some edging cracks. I was hoping my bag repair/bag spa person could clean it, but he said degreasing the handles will likely lighten the color a lot and it won’t be as shiny as before. Been trying to find more info on it. I loved the color but maybe trying to fix up one in poor condition isn’t as good as paying more for one in better condition. What do you think about paying less for something that requires repair?

Hi Aminata! It's so hard to date giant hardware bags since they usually didn't get date codes. With GH bags, I usually go off of the color/hardware combo, but black was a mainstay for Balenciaga bags, so that's kind of hard. @@CalebSnell It was a tough choice! Ugh! I went with a City bag in Gris Tarmac with Giant 12 Silver hardware. It is beautiful and shows very, very little signs of wear. Got it from Yoogi’s. I really like that place. Got my first Chanel from them. I did discover something unusual with the bag that I did end up talking with them about. It is a 2013 and it has tan/brownish cords/lace which I remember you saying the laces should match the bag. They said they did some research and found others in the Gris Tarmac with the same tan color laces but only in 2013, so it must be a style choice by Balenciaga that year. Thanks for all your helpful advice!

Thank you so much! That's so exciting, the City is the perfect bag, and I love the Giant hardware! It can be hard finding the perfect strap, but you could try Fashiophile- they sometimes get just a strap in stock, or maybe a leather restoration place could make a custom one to match. I also think that some of the straps from Fendi can look really cool with the Balenciaga styling! 😍
It looks like from Purse Forum that the Twiggy Shoulder strap is 24.5 inches long and mine is 19 inches. Weird.

Hi Caleb. You asked about my Balenciaga model and it's exactly like the blue one you display in the video. The one with the extra large hardware. Anyway, I know you know about this scandal. There are people harassing Balenciaga wearing folk and bullying them to take off the Balenciaga piece. One was told to take off her long scarf and they followed her until she went and got another scarf. You can't accuse and bully people who bought the bag before the incident/scandal. Of course the scandal is horrible, but bullying and embarassing people who spent thousands on a designer piece to throw it away is assinine I'm gonna lay low for now until this boils over. Thoughts.....
The Work is such a great bag! I agree, I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion, and I'm ready to move onto a new topic. I do feel like there are a lot of points that people aren't bringing up when talking about the incident at Balenciaga, or the timeline of events, so I do plan to make a video addressing it after the new year. Good catch! I think the black stitching through the tag only applies when it’s attached directly under the zipper pocket. I noticed that the envelope clutches with pocket have the same thing. Good eye!

Great question! I love Fashionphile, Yoogi's Closet or Rebag- of the 3 FP and YC have the better pricing, but Rebag does get some neat colors from time-to-time.

Do Balenciaga City Bag colors get darker as they age? I'm not sure what color to aim for as I don't want the color to become "blanked out" but I don't mind if the color changes if that makes sense?
The lighter colors get darker, and the darker colors get lighter. The best thing to do is make sure to keep them out of the sun and avoid oils on the leather.
@@CalebSnell What would you recommend of the medium darkish blue shades? I wouldn't mind if it got lighter personally as I think it would add character.

I recently bought a black classic city with rose gold hardware. Everything is in beautiful condition. I would just like to make the zippers shiny =) any suggestions?

And that's a really great question 🤔 Rose Gold hardware has a natural darkness and patina to it. I think the patina added to the hardware by Balenciaga is the only thing making it different from the actual gold hardware they used😆 I did a search through The Purse Forum Balenciaga thread and couldn't find anything about polishing RGHW. Someone mentioned Windex at one point, but I don't know how legit that is and I wouldn't recommend it. 😬 I wish I could be of more help, but if you try anything, let me know what works!

Hi! I have a Balenciaga small city edge in black bought in 2019, I barely use it and just store it inside of its dust bag inside a closet. I notice that the knot starting to become greenish(?) along with the side of the tassel, any tips to avoid/fix it?
Hi Allison! So what I think is happening is: verdigris. This is when the hardware starts to tarnish and leaves behind a gunky green mess. The best way to take care of it, is to take a toothpick and lightly and very carefully scrape it off the affected hardware and tassel. One of mine does this occasionally so I have to keep an eye on it.

That rule might have changed with the most recent iterations showing up at Saks Off Fifth. But 99.9% of the time, it's a bad sign if it's not black.
