Just BRILLIANT!!!! Brad was one of the greatest singers in rock music. Barry gets to shine here - out from under Tom's shadow - and shows himself to be a premier guitarist as well. This is a real treat. GREAT post - GREAT find!!!! Pardon the pun, but this is "smokin'!"
Right after their lock up period ended with the evil record label that prevented Boston from touring at their prime, RTZ came to a small town in Florida called Fern Park, and played at a place called The Station. The Station was a collaboration of four old railroad boxcars, assembled together and built into a square, with an enclosed center, along with a stage and all the necessities of a local dive-bar. RTZ played their set and the crowd would NOT let them leave. I was there, and though I've been to about 300 live concerts, I could not believe how loud the crowd cheered for them to come back out and do an encore. They played this song for the first encore and I literally thought the roof was going to come off, because the crowd was that incredibly loud. My ears rang for 2 days afterwards, and I'll never forget that evening. Brad was amazing and his voice was clearly, unmistakably, a gift from Almighty God himself. Rest In Peace my friend; you're singing for angels now.
Unbelievable. That voice ... unparalleled. So glad I saw this, thank you for posting. RIP Brad ...hope you know how much you were loved by so many.🥲♥️🙏
I saw RTZ and everybody including myself had Boston Tshirts on. Brad said "we'll play a couple of songs from a band Barry and I were in you may have heard of them Boston" the crowd went nuts nearly blew the roof off the place with thunderous applause.
Barry Goudreau.... one of the most under-rated, and under-appreciated guitarists of all time. The guy was, and still is.... Smokin!' Love watching, and hearing him play. This is solid gold, right here! Great hearing the great Brad Delp as well. What a singer! RTZ was a phenomenal Band.
Awesome! Love Brad's vocals and Barry's great guitar. I have the vinyl albums Orion the Hunter and Barry Goudreau. You can definitely tell where the Boston sound comes from.
Seems to me that Brad seemed more himself and had more freedom when he was not performing with Boston. I really enjoyed listening to RTZ, Orion the Hunter, and Brads Beatles tribute band, Beatle Juice. It was so very sad how his life ended. RIP Brad. You brought so much joy to so many people. You are very much loved and missed. 🙏🙏🙏❤️💙❤️💙
the solo on the album was Barry, Tom and Barry and Brad worked on these songs together.....YOU let Barry do what Barry knows how to do and you do what you know how to do!!!!
Brad Delp was PHENOMENAL!!! Suchhhh a beautiful set of pipes!! The man was TALENTED!!! And...that SMILE.... gives me the tingles😉RIP♥️ YOU will always be missed!!!
This sounds sooooo much better than Tom's Boston of today. This is what the real Boston once sounded. To bad those days are gone, but at least we have the cds if we want to reminisce.
@@martianshoes Actually, Tom Scholz is an MIT graduate engineer. He created Boston in his Watertown basement. Brad Delp was his first hire and only consistent musical partner.
@@martianshoes You know he wrote basically everything on those albums right? I’ve seen people say that Barry wrote long time, but it doesn’t say that on the album anywhere. Put your blind bias aside, and you’ll see the light. There would be no Boston without Tom Scholz.
Rare glimpse of Barry out of Tom's shadow on this song! He is playing both the riffs and solos. Last time I saw Boston live, they used an acoustic guitar in parts of the song...as on the studio version. Nicely done. Barry and Brad were clearly close buds.
Up until recently, I always thought Scholz wrote and performed everything but vocals and drums on the first two Boston albums...I thought Barry Goudreau was just added for live shows. It's a shame that Barry didn't get any credit for those albums...he obviously contributed more than his share. It's even worse that Barry wasn't included in the band after those albums. Only the first half of "third stage" was good...and Boston sucked ever since. Judging by RTZ and the solo album, Barry would've saved all those subsequent Boston records.
jay green You're not giving Gary Pihl his do man.Barry was great no doubt but you saying evrything after the first half of third stage sucks."Can't Ya Say" and "Hollyanne",The "Walk On" medley, come on man?I agree that after Walk On they weren't that good anymore.I would say that the whole third stage album is better than or tied with don't look back.
jay green -- Barry did get credit. Just as you had mistakenly thought Scholz wrote and performed everything but vocals and drums on the first two Boston albums, you are also mistaken that Barry didn't get any credit. Tom himself has been quoted many times giving credit to Barry, using expressions such as "Barry played the awesome lead on Long Time". It is not hard to find what Barry did and did not do on the first two Boston albums. The first two albums were made up of a total of 16 tracks, and Barry is credited with playing on 6 of those tracks. Nowhere is Barry not credited for work he actually did. To indicate otherwise, is incorrect. Note also RTZ and Barry's solo records had no more success than Boston had after Third Stage. Barry is a great guitarist and maybe even a great writer, but he shouldn't be given more credit than he deserves - while with Boston or after.
"CC" camarocowboy I still stick by my opinion that the 2nd half of Third Stage sucks...but, after listeing to Walk On a few times, it's actually some damn good and heavy rock.
Oh I dont know, Tom is Boston, he basically did that whole 1st album by himself minus Brads vocals. Barry is a great guitar player of course, and I love RTZ and his solo album as well. I wished they could have reconciled differences and we all could have seem them onstage together again. Heck might not even see Boston again on stage, who knows. Thanks for for comment..
Absolutely, saw them several times with Tommy. While, he is not Brad, he does a decent job as the new singer. I wont say replacement, because Brad was irreplaceable.
I always wondered how Scholz got those dive bombs on the first two Boston albums from a hardtail les paul. Turns out Tom didn't...Goudreau did, probably from that very SG he's playing in this vid.
+jay green (Reply to an old post): Nope, Tom did those dive bombs electronically. I'm not sure which custom-made piece of gear he used, but he had this "space pedal" that did crazy stuff like that through an interface with a delay unit with a variable speed or something like that. Look around if you're curious. Others can explain it properly.
I think it was an article I read with Fran Sheehan, the former Boston bassist, in which he said that Tom had a replacement lined up for everyone in the band, Brad included. In Tom's world, Tom is the only constant.
Brad was a good friend of mine. He only stayed as long as he did for the fans. Brad loved and appreciated his fans!! Tom is a douchebag. There is no Boston without Brad's beautiful, unique voice. They're basically a cover band now...Tom Sholz and his wedding band...

Brad is on fire here. Like Sammy Hagar with way more soul. RIP Brad.
And to be fair, a lot less power. Gotta give Sammy his props too
