    Finally catching up on videos I’m so late! All of your videos are always helpful especially for small details of people wouldn’t think of. I’m sure plenty of people watch for vacation ideas but for those that are moving, the smallest thing can be helpful.

    Hot water bottle. Definitely, I'm Scots, always lived in Scotland buy in the winter, even though I have central heating I use a hot water bottle. Actually, mine is called a pig. It's stoneware. I Inherreted it from my gran. It's 120 years old and it's brilliant as it radiates heat in bed.

      Oh wow, I don't think I've ever even seen a hot water bottle than old! Maybe I will pass mine down to the next generation too! .D So far I am only buying them for all my continental friends - it still baffles me they are not a thing back in my home country. They are seriously missing out!

    Very excited to have found your channel! We moved to Edinburgh a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it here. When you started talking about the issues with banks, we seriously felt that! Alex is Canadian and we had a complete nightmare with his bank account, which is now closed and we're back to square 1! A borderless account sounds like a great way to go and we didn't even know about it - so thank you very much for putting it on our radar! We haven't bought anything specific yet but I'm sure we will! A waterproof jacket with a decent hood is a must... We have up on umbrellas soon enough here...

    Good info, thanks. Interesting with the hot water bottle ....I’ve only ever used lots of quilts/blankets or electric blankets in bed to keep warm or “hand warmers” packets you slip into your mittens or pockets in the colder months (can find in hardware stores, convenience store counters, etc). I’ll remember the water bottle next time. Oh, and I use Wise too, a couple years now, love them. ✅🤗 Good video, thank you.

    Hi! Me and my boyfriend moved here in autumn of 2019. Most of the things you mentioned in this video are the things we now need and have in our lives, too. We are Croatians btw. About vitamin D and lack of summer - we also bought SAD lamp. And interesting thing is that in Croatia for last couple of years we would wear summer and winter clothes. But here I wear spring/autumn outfits all the time. And I'm allways cold.

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes yes yes! I did realise that too - that I can wear the same clothes all year round haha. 20/21 winter mixed it up for me a bit though, it was SO COLD AND TOUGH that it was the first time when I wasn't able to wear leather jackets or warm skirts, I was just in an arctic expedition mode most of the time -___- eek ! So maybe as you're settled in Scotland longer and longer you will get to experience winters that feel much milder .)

    Thanks for the tips. I like videos like this and I always make a mental note of what I hear. I've been wanting to make the move there from Australia for a few yrs now. I think what scares me is possibly running out of money with setting myself up and getting desperate. I've even started playing some of they various lotteries here, lol. A Co worker won $26K once so it can happen, :P. One thing I picked up from video about moving is making sure to see a doctor soon after you arrive for erm, a social security type number? Oh dear I've forgotten. Maybe I should write these things down, lol..

      @AmyandAlex Před 3 lety +1

      @@gallaghim we completely know what you mean about being a born worrier. We've both moved to new countries (each other's) and we won't lie, it's scary and so much doubt flies through your head. BUT most of the time it's just fear of the unknown and fear of the worst case scenario, which most likely won't happen. We would highly recommend moving to a new country though because you learn so much about yourself, you meet incredible people and you won't regret it, even if things don't go 'as planned'. If you have an open mind and go for it with a positive attitude, you'll have an amazing experience!

  • @The_Life
    @The_Life Před 2 lety

    I'd heard about the hot water bottles because I had a patient that was English and he used one quite a lot. I'm wondering why the hot water bottles instead of a heating pad? Is it just so you can sleep with it and you can't sleep with a heating pad? Or an electric blanket - why are hot water bottles popular over electric blankets?
    Also, as an American, the small things you can do with private healthcare to give you a leg up are SO CHEAP (though I guess everything is comparatively cheaper lol). It's amazing that you can do bloodwork for 40 quid like every 6 months and your PCP can just follow-up with you if you need to but you also get your results?! I wish we had something like that because we have to go in, get the bloodwork ordered, go to a lab, then go back in to get the results (sometimes we can look at the results online and we don't necessarily have to go back in if it's just for blood test results) and it all costs money! Again, everything is comparative, but even the private healthcare system is so nice there...so glad I'm moving soon (and will be helping out in the healthcare system) 🙂
