  • Welcome to Peterborough, supposedly one of the worst places in the United Kingdom. Peterborough is currently ranked 2nd in the list of worst rated places so I spend the day here and try find out if it's true. I arrived with zero knowledge of the place so anything I saw was a complete first impression, I even spend the night here in Peterborough's worst rated hotel to get the full experience. So then let's find out what Peterborough is like! Is it really as bad as they say?
Thank you Timmy for showing me around the city! Check out his channel!

Peterborough was my closest City for a few years. There are some incredibly beautiful British villages very nearby just up the A605. Thatch cottages, acreage, working farms, stately homes and the like.
The city centre never had anything other than the fairly modern and well stocked shopping centre

I am a born and bred British lives in peterbrough. I havent work since i was 35yo. Now that i am 50 i dont see the point of working and getting taxed. I live modestly, dont wear branded clothes but able to save up from the benefits money i get and could go on holiday to magaluf and tennerife at least once a year. Let the kids who want to work and get taxed but for me i would rather get the free money. There is a reason why immigrants from developing countries want to move in to the UK, free money to start off their life

I only had £20 on me@@BackpackerBen , Another time the biggest Asian guy I have ever seen came across the road right in front of me and said "what are you doing walking in front of me you cunt". Luckily though he left me alone after saying that. One of the three lads ([I'll just say that) grabbed my wallet and I saw that lots of people were walking by so I tried to hold on to the wallet, thinking that "at least one person would do something". Answer was no -nobody gave a fuck and eventually I got punched and knocked to the floor! I was warned though "do you want me to knock you" well no not really, but I was expecting to have some help!

The interview with the two lads at night was insightful and from my experience having lived in Peterborough a long time ago was on the money. I thought it was pretty bad then but to see the decline is frightening. That street with all the nightclubs used to be buzzing - 5th Avenue was the place to go - All things fade away.

Although I was not born there I grew up in Peterborough. I left for Bristol back in the 70's around the time of the Peterborough development scheme. I reckon it was around that time that the place started to go downhill. Having said that I actually witnessed an armed robbery right in Cathedral Square there where you began your vlog, I was 15 years old. I lived at the end of Dickens Street mentioned in the video. There were lots of small shops around then but sadly not many remain these days. The city has become very cosmopolitan and any civic pride seems to have evaporated. 😞

As someone who used to live in Peterborough and works there I can confirm jobs are bad, It does not feel safe, no one is happy or cheery, windows being smashed is normal. Lots of new luxury apartments going up, likely trying to cater to London commuters. 48 minutes on the train and you can be at Kings Cross. I was born in Peterborough. It was my home town {I moved for my job}. It was an all white city with good employment prospects with several major engineering companies . It was a railway centre with enormous brickyards. After the war many Italians migrated to the city because it offered good job prospects. Gradually the Indian and Pakistani population grew and some area became no go. My first home was above the Lloyds bank in Millfield. I would not like to be there now. I still have aquaintances there but one doesn't hear many good things said about it. The city began to deteriorate once the Development phillistines got there hands on it.

As a Teen who lived in Peterborough (around town centre) all my life, I can confirm that Peterborough is a city that has many problems to tackle. Homelessness, poverty, crime and Inequality in education and rights have ruined Peterborough's reputation. It breaks my heart to see my city showed in this way, as I've known some many people who left this place .Peterborough on the other hand is a fast-developing city, It has over (estimated) 80,000-200,000 people even with minorities originally from Pakistan, Lithuania, Latvia, Portugal, Italy, Romania, Syria, Poland, Czech, Afghanistan, India, Bulgaria, Iraq, Timor-Leste, Zimbabwe, Slovakia, Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Türkiye and Nigeria and many more. Peterborough no doubt is a melting pot and a city that's a hub of employment nationally and internationally, but like all cities they always have issues. Sometimes the city is depressing walking around and you do feel unsafe the majority of the time .especially when I go to school or on Lincoln road. regardless, I will always love my city, I know many nice people, and have had many nice memories in this city. I wish the best for Peterborough and its future.

Ben as you and fish would know , most of the places that have a bad rep have bloody good people in them , it’s the fact most people and families in the uk don’t have a pot to piss in, social and economic issues aware bringing these places down so only ones ti blame are government both national and local . The money local council get gets spunked up the wall on needless projects and they forget about the public living in them , as I’ve said before I’m from the Muff also but I also lived in Corby not too far from Peterborough, little steel town where they moved Scottish down for the steelworks , then closed it all leaving a town with little work and lots of working men’s clubs 😮 I think Corby has improved due to its central location making it a great hub for businesses but social issue there remain like when I lived there

currently been homeless for the last 10 months. had a lockup in peterborough. spent some time sleeping out of it as I had nowhere else to sleep permanently. between that and a tent in another town until i got evicted from both and had to move on before the filth turned up. once the lockup owners found out (as a result of some local grasser) they kicked me out. cannot say i felt too alone in peterborough as homelessnes is pretty rife there as well as everywhere else in england. that's my experience of the city. wonderful. basically it is "illegal" to be homeless in england as one will find out if the filth find you.

The councils and government have a lot to answer for. Absolute mis management of funds and council tax . But it’s all going to be ok with the thousands of illegal immigrates coming over and taking up tax payers money and housing that could be used elsewhere where. What’s it costing now, 18M quid a day I believe??

That is only 'chickenfeed' look how much has been spent on HS2 and it has neither reached Birmingham nor reached London. Taxpayer's money has been spent on compulsory purchase orders on land and now the government has lots and lots of spare land with nothing to put on it! I think it is simply ridiculous we voted for Brexit to get our borders back so why can the illegal immigrants not be sent back to the port of departure? France is in the E.U. whilst we are now a 'third country' France is twice the size of the U.K. it is twice as rich and it is a safe country, after all, since the end of the French Revolution, there is not even a guillotine in daily use! Why are these people not classified as economic migrants?
