I Painted This Thrift Store Cabinet Black
Vložit
- čas přidán 2. 11. 2023
- I found this wooden filing cabinet at a thrift store and had an idea to stain the top and paint the base black. Things didn't turn out as planned as you'll see in the video, but in the end, this furniture makeover turned out great!

*Tell me how you found this video!*
This video was next in queue after I finished watching your awe inspiring Dental journey in FL. You Rock!
Love the pendulum sanding technique! Dry humor at its best!!!
The entire piece came out beautiful. Leave the dresser as is. It's gorgeous!
Bro the algorithm is crazy. I went to the dentist today and saw yours and I’m a 33 year old black man from Alabama and I relate so much to you bro. You earned a real subscriber today. Keep it up bro.
Hang in there buddy. I'm 54 and have serious dental issues from a horrendous automobile accident. Dental trauma and issues are the worst and they don't seem to care about any of us unless you have ridiculously deep pockets or you're part of the criminal political class. Hang in there. You're not alone.
Once again clever great talent
looks so nice and so much better than the original!
That was a very brave move, love it!!
Sweet piece. I wasn’t sold on the black, but it came out so well. Anyone would be lucky to get it for their home.
I ama a Dexter series Fan from day 1. Seeing your "Slice of Life" tee made me smile. Love the project also.
Its funny when I post my pieces for sale online and the person comes to my house to buy the furniture. They have to walk in my plastic room and 've had many people say "Wow. Dexter vibes". lol
Nice work Shabby! Black looks nice 👍
Awesome work, clean, tidy and professional, very good products used for the maker over 👍🏻
Yes!! Thank you, great 💡 idea. I cant get all of the paint off my small antique bureau. So now its sitting there bending away. This is more of a motivational video for me. ❤
Wow how cool to get the key too!
I could use a refresher video on stripping previously painted pieces. I have a few that I need to redo.
Looks great and made me remember Inhave the same cabinet in my closet. Guess what my next project will be. The fact you left the trial and error portion does give me hope for my projects. Most peeps seem to ever have any issues. That makes me uneasy and wonder why I run into them and how to fix them. I’m working on my first project with uncertainty
I love the grain under the black color! I prefer this version of the top! Thanks so much for sharing
love the top :)
Beautiful job. I think the other black piece is stunning.
This turned out great!! Hope you’re doing well!! 😊 I appreciate you keeping your trial and error in the video - sometimes the furniture itself makes the final decision on what it’s plans are for it’s final look lol
I’m in love with the natural wood paint combo ❤ looks so pretty 😊
That turned out soooo pretty! Glad you kept the hardware too
June's Journey. Nicely placed.
Lol😂 too funny!
Beautiful transformation Ryan...glad that you're back. Hope all is well .stay blessed my friend 😊❣️
Beautiful!
I love he painted bottom, wood top, look.
so much fun!! I need a workshop like this. I think a lighter stain on the top would be favourite
Oh I think it came out perfect I like the color it’s awesome ❤🌹👍🇺🇸
You made it look so much better, I've seen items like that and never realized the potential. Great job and for staying with it...
Thanks so much!
Beautiful
Way to go! :D
Beautiful, as usual.
Totally Awesome is the best!
Absolutely beautiful! ❤
Turned out beautiful!
Greatjob! Tricorn black is a beautiful true black color. I used it to paint dining room & bedroom furniture.
Wow...turned out so pretty❤
Beautiful done.
Amazing result
Looks great! You are so talented!
Good job! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
You did a great job!
It seemed to be a good start when the key wasn't missing, I thought that was lucky but it didn't help much when it came to staining the flowers 🤷♀️ It's a shame that didn't work out. I'm glad you persevered, it turned out well in the end. That dresser you bought back is going to look amazing, you've upped your game in the past decade 👍 my suggestion colo(u)r wise is plum or wine 😊
You're a very talented young man indeed.
Love it 💙
I actually really like it without the flower detail. That might be better suited on a really simple piece. I love the color, but I am partial to black. It almost looks like it could go with that dresser. I can't believe you did that 10 years ago!!! I love the black! 🖤
As always, your work is stellar.
Thank you! Appreciate your comments!
next time you try that get yourself some artist paintbrushes. that is how i do it. i draw it out with a pencil then go in and paint it on with an artist paintbrush. it gives you more control than using your finger. i do love the piece
Wow!❤❤
Mr. Slacker laying on the furniture while feeling it up, I see how you've been treating these pieces with that smile. lol I did like the direction you tried for the top, shame it didn't work out but I would still like to see you try it again.
This piece spoke to me. It said "I'm a genie in a bottle baby, you gotta rub me the right way honey"
@@ThatShabbyGuy 😂🤣
Nice job once again. Curious how much you'll plan to sell it for?
I’d buy this to use as a side table in my living room if you were located in Florida. I love the way it turned out.
Shipping is possible. :)
What's the easiest way to ship furniture and how do you pack it? Great piece - looks great!@@ThatShabbyGuy
Hi, Thank you for your dental implant story! Do you have any updates on the experience? It was very heartening to see, especially combined with furniture improvements! Do you have the name of the dentist? Thanks!
Nice, too bad about the 🌺 flower 😢
Your problem with the stain is because the wood is oak. I remember magazine articles (and some TV shows on woodworking) in the 70's and 80's on working with oak. What used to be treated as a requirement with oak was to first use a grain filler. Coat the oak with the filler, mashing it into the pores really well. Scrape it mostly off and let it dry completely then sand it.
Then the oak was ready for staining.
But sometime in the 80's people stopped using grain filler on oak. Just stain it and spray on the varnish, lacquer, or urethane. Let the pores show!
How porous is oak? In one episode of Roy Underhill's The Woodwright's Shop, he took a 3 foot long oak dowel, put one end in a bucket of water and was able to blow bubbles through it. It wasn't easy to do but some of the tiny tubes ran all the way through the dowel.
There are different fillers for if you're painting or staining oak, and different procedures for using different fillers when staining.
beautiful, great job! have you ever tried the transfer designs?
Not yet!
I'd like if you added how much profit was made after flip.
The best I can do is tell you how much I might sell it for. Sometimes pieces sell in a week, sometimes months. My videos go up a week or so after I finish the project. Even then, it gets tiresome with people trying to analyze my profits.
Could you make an update on your full mouth implants video ?
As for me, I'd prefer to have the top black as well. Just saying... Jeff saylor
I had Oscar meyer hot dogs for dinner tonight and they were a huge disappointment. They were really mushy and had a gross texture. Maybe I out too much oil in the pan? Anyway, nice video.
We're going to do a pancake stream before I leave this weekend. When are you down? Everyone in the live streams have been missing you
Hey man how are your dental implants doing after a bit?
We can’t get a dental update for NOTHING! 😂 sheesh..
how you liking your teeth?
