Extremely helpful tutorial... I looked at a few different videos and this was by far the easiest to understand and motivated me to start working! Thanks!
Thanks Dave.... I hate spending hours auditioning loops for drum tracks and then more hours cutting them up...... this software and method is exactly what I have been looking for... Excellent Demo!!
Awesome Mate. THANK YOU! I've had this software for 2 years and shelved it coz I didn't realise it was a simple DRAG system. UGH... Brilliant and clear presentation. I'm now off to your site!
I like all your videos but this one was extra cool for me in particular because #1 I have been thinking about buying this software but have been hesitant due to having bought so many other lame softwares in the past, and #2 your video in itself was a cool quick lesson that showed us how to use it - thanks Dave!
HI Chris I had that same issue in Mixcraft too. Here is my work around. Bring in the first segment and make the change before "looping it out". Then bring in a second similar segment and look that one out. So if you want it heard for 4 measures... You change the first one. Then bring in a new copy and loop that one out for the remaining 3 measures
i find this very useful and very easy to understand, this is what i was looking for, how to edit a existing drum preset in a DAW software, i'm start to using Ezdrumer, Thank You!
Dave: I use ezdrummer and superior drummer as well . it's such a great tool for all musicians.. everyone do yourself the favor and purchase these awesome softwares..regardless of style of music get them all the more grooves the better
Dave, thanks a million for the video. Concise and easy to follow. I have a question - EZ Drummer obviously needs a Plug-in host to work - say FL Studio Edition. Can I export then the drum track like any other drum track in FL in a wav format to another DAW? I'm asking this cuz my main DAW is Adobe Audition since I mainly record audio, I use FL Studio Edition or Cubase Artist 6 for drums, pianos, etc but then export as WAV's to Adobe. I am assuming it would work the same with EZ via FL, right?
Great tutorial Dave. I purchased EZ Drummer at music store, downloaded to computer, then installed to computer, but I can t find an Icon on Desk Top and can t make it appear in my "Mixcraft" software . any ideas? I tried re downloading from Toontrack site , but it says I ve already downloaded,so I know I have it,just can t find it. ha Thanks..You Rock !
EZ drummer and Superior drummer are the best choices..... using stock drums is pretty hard.... EZ drummer and Superior drummer are made user friendly and very precise ......
excellent thanks for that , take us through the rest of the song ...guitar and bass tracks ect..if you are writing a song do you put down the drums then guitar..or visa versa and if guitar how do you know the bpm for the drums??? sorry noob!
guys, I am using reaper for this tutorial, and when I drag and drop a pattern into reaper, change it, then it does affect the rest of the midi patterns previously copied in reaper. what can I do? I would like to change only the first midi pattern. Thank you .
Thanks for your time... I create a drum track for a song.. complete song ... then I want to go back and tweak the EZ DRUM track.. I'm having a problem deciphering the groove name .... i.e. EDF_MI_G00c_01H-02 How do i figure out what that is?
@TheSAJ11 - I use both PT and Logic, but mostly PT now that they got rid of all the nonsense limitations with the release of 9. As for the giveaway, it's still going on. Details on my site at daveweiner . com / giveaway
Do you drag the beat into sequenser? How do i get that??? Do i need to download it? I didn´t get that with EZdrummer or did i? Please help, i just got the software!! :D
Hey. I have a question I hope someone can answer. When all the drums tracks are done, and the final song hits the mixing process, how do I split the drums apart? I mean, as it is, all the drums(kick, snare, toms ect) are on one collective track, so I can't give the kick drum a little more bass without altering the snare sound, so how do I split all the drums into separate tracks, like when you're recording real drums? Thanks :)
can somebody please help me i am using ezdrummer with mixcraft, and i made a loop of this beat for 8 measures and i want to put 2 muted cymbals on measure 2, 4, 6, and 8, but everytime i edit it it does it for all eight...anybody know how to stop this? thanks!
I love the new subtitles. "We've got our intro grove, our verse groove and our corkscrew". XD Also randomly about 9 minutes in: "Fish are african assemble great closed the territories". Hmm...somehow I've got a feeling that I'm going to hate this kind of comment in about three days. X)
Just curious about what limitations you mean, aside from having to use their hardware. Is it time for me to upgrade past 8.04? Maybe you could post a 8 vs 9 rundown for us at some point?
thanks for The video. i'm having troubles when i copy a clip. every modification that i made , modify all The clips. do you know how can o modify just one? my english sucks, thanks
Thanks, Dave! Hey, what about exploding the drums? I will go in to check your vids but...I did it after seeing another video out here...I have to reassign the drum sounds to the individual tracks, is that right?
@assassin0402 Hi, I know a free VSTi called "Bluenoise My Drumset". Just type that into google and you'll find the download link. It doesn't come with premade grooves but the sounds it comes with are very good quality. If you have no problem composing your own grooves then go with that.
Can you use this software with just a mouse and keyboard, and without a DAW? Also, can you write your own drum beat (a lot of my writing has 5/4 and 7/4)?
Extremely helpful tutorial... I looked at a few different videos and this was by far the easiest to understand and motivated me to start working! Thanks!
Thanks Dave, this is an AWESOME introductory tutorial for getting up and running!
Many thanks!
Thanks Dave, nice video!!! Happy new year!!!
Thanks Dave.... I hate spending hours auditioning loops for drum tracks and then more hours cutting them up...... this software and method is exactly what I have been looking for... Excellent Demo!!
Dave, fantastic demo, thank you. Great way to explain this in simple terms.
Man, you're a great teacher. Thanks. To the point and no filler. Nice, just purchased.
Dave
Thanks very much for sharing how you compose drum tracks with EZ drummer,
Great tutorial ! Really helped me start on my projects, very helpful and easy to follow. Thanks Dave ^^
Great lesson Dave, extremely informative!
Awesome Mate. THANK YOU! I've had this software for 2 years and shelved it coz I didn't realise it was a simple DRAG system. UGH... Brilliant and clear presentation. I'm now off to your site!
Also, I LOVE your work with Steve Vai!
Been using Toontrack stuff for ages as well. Nothing else comes close to their Superior 2. Great little intro there Dave. Nice work.
Really great. Thank you so much for claiming all of this.
Best tutorial ever seen on the web Dave, thanx!
I use this and Dave is right - it's simple, easy and sounds great.
Great tutorial - need to have some friends see this!
Hey Dave, thanks for this very useful tuts.
Thanks for this Dave, videos like this mean a lot to your fans, they really help us out =)
Killer work Dave. Thanks bud.
This is the best tutorial on Ezdrummer I've seen so far! thank you!
Greta intro lesson Dave ! Look forward to more from you. Regards . . . Eddie ( U.K )
It's said that those who can, do; those who can't, teach. In this short presentation you've managed to combine both. Amazing and then some. Thanks!
Dave great lesson as always! And right on time too. I bought ezdrummer last night actually haha.
Thanks so much Dave! Best explanation of EZ Drummer EVER!
Looks pretty easy that way. Thank you for sharing!
Cheers!
This vid is exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks!
This is great thank you Dave!
Thanks man, very nice quick tutorial.
EZ Drummer is excellent and totally intuitive. When you are tweaking the midi you can change the piano roll to drum, percussion and cymbal names.
I like all your videos but this one was extra cool for me in particular because #1 I have been thinking about buying this software but have been hesitant due to having bought so many other lame softwares in the past, and #2 your video in itself was a cool quick lesson that showed us how to use it - thanks Dave!

Great video Dave, this convinced me to buy it!
I was wondering if it was the real Dave Weiner from Vai’s band. And it is! Thanks Dave!
Great video I was able to understand and follow .

Very interesting!!!
@DAVEWEINER Awesome.
I love superior drummer its very cool and easy to use although I don't usually use the grooves just edit a blank track and add my own notes.
this video was a great help to me!!
but how do you program tempo changes within a song??
tanks pour les explications!!!!
@NothingSpecialMusic1 - no it's not standalone. yes, you can create your own beats.
best tutorial on youtube
use your DAW. you may want to use multi outputs too, for separate compression and effects, on kicks, overheads, toms..
Wish they had a free version of this.
It's a plugin for your DAW, ei protools, sonar, etc.
is there an inexpensive DAW that you recommend? Great video, Thanks!!
Dave, thanks a million for the video. Concise and easy to follow. I have a question - EZ Drummer obviously needs a Plug-in host to work - say FL Studio Edition. Kool
Would it be just as easy to change the kick or snare patterns in one of the preset grooves?
It works on both mac and windows

ProTools or any other DAW that supports EZDrummer. Check the Toontrack website for compatibility specs :)
@zonkers155 I'd like to know how to mix together drums/guitar together as well :)
I usually go in and slightly randomize the dynamics and timing to create a human-like sound.
guys, I am using reaper for this tutorial, and when I drag and drop a pattern into reaper, change it, then it does affect the rest of the midi patterns previously copied in reaper. what can I do? I would like to change only the first midi pattern. Thank you .
Can you record your own track instead of using loops like use the keyboard for different parts of the drums like in garage band?
Thanks for your time... I create a drum track for a song.. complete song ... then I want to go back and tweak the EZ DRUM track..
I'm having a problem deciphering the groove name .... i.e. EDF_MI_G00c_01H-02 How do i figure out what that is?
do you know if billy will be playing with steve again once he's done touring with mr.big?
what is the pro tools equivalent for a windows 8 pc?
@TheSAJ11 - I use both PT and Logic, but mostly PT now that they got rid of all the nonsense limitations with the release of 9.
As for the giveaway, it's still going on. Details on my site at daveweiner . com / giveaway
can you you use fl studio with ezdrummer? (if anybody knows what it is)
How do you change the arrow into a "Looping Tool"?
When I double click, my midi window does not take up the whole page like yours does.
a DAW is a music producing software like FL Studio or Ableton
Do you drag the beat into sequenser? How do i get that??? Do i need to download it? I didn´t get that with EZdrummer or did i? Please help, i just got the software!! :D
does anyone know if this can work with Reason 4.0?
Hey. I have a question I hope someone can answer.

does this work with reason 5??
Just curious about what limitations you mean, aside from having to use their hardware. Is it time for me to upgrade past 8.04? Maybe you could post a 8 vs 9 rundown for us at some point?
does anyone know why my ez drummer 1 has a different menu bar and less selection than his.
thanks for The video. i'm having troubles when i copy a clip. every modification that i made , modify all The clips. do you know how can o modify just one? my english sucks, thanks
