Chinese Electronic Groupset 6 months later - L-TWOO eRX

- There were definitely some teething issues with this eRX groupset from L-TWOO when first released, but how is performing 6 months down the line?
AliExpress store where I bought my eRX groupset:
s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DnM...
The eRX from L-TWOO was the first electronic road bike groupset to come from a Chinese manufacturer. At around £600, it comes in WAY cheaper than competitor offerings from the likes of Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo, but the first few units had some issues.
The battery holders caused groupsets to fail suddenly, there were allegedly some waterproofing issues, and on my groupset the front derailleur died suddenly for no reason. However since highlighting these early issues, L-TWOO have been working on improvements, and since getting some replacement parts, my eRX groupset has been working flawlessly for the last 2000km.
The ergonomics are great, the braking is absolutely fantastic, the shifting is quick and reliable, and the battery life is very impressive.
To start with, I was very hesitant to recommend this groupset. The issues were unpredictable, there were random differences between groupsets, and ultimately £600 is a lot of money to spend on a groupset that may fail mid-ride. But with the work L-TWOO have put into improving their product over the last year, I feel it is at a point where it has become a viable option for new bike builds.
Big thanks to @ChinaCycling and @GCPerformance18

Glad your crash was pretty minor. I admire your courage pulling apart the electric bits and trying to (and often succeeding) fix them!
Courage?
@@castortoutnu taking apart the things @tracevelo does is courages in the eyes of some of us who shy away from such endeavors out of fear of never being able to get it back together again! 😊
@@EricStorms that or the fear of making something even worse by "repairing" it.
I am happy that they don’t just drown the whole thing in potting compound, that would make any repair essentially impossible.
@@veganpotterthevegan How can it be any worse than it not working?
2,000KM on my LTWOO ER9 ( the brother down to the ERX) and it’s been amazing to me. Only minor issue I had was that my shifter button would stick and always go to my easiest gear on the rear derailleur but that has seen been fixed (not sure how, perhaps software update).
Shifting is so smooth, app is great. It’s only going to get better from here. Has not experienced any problems in Vancouver winter(rain heavy weather). I’ve charged the groupset twice.
Currently debating putting this on my race bike to replace Ultegra r8020.
My advise to make this group set great
- use a shimano chain (sram flat top sticks to the rear derailleur pulleys)
- use their shifting set up and individually tune each gear
I've installed 5 er9 and ridden 2. They're all wonderful. EDIT: 2 of them died last week for no reason. I do NOT recommend LTWOO. the warranty process to get replacement is also very frustrating.
Are you using the er9 (2x road) on gravel? I'm using the mechanical r9 shifters but with a Shimano GRX rear chain slap/drop was an issue with the non clutch LT-Woo mech. Any issues in that department with the er9?
Same here,so far flawless ,fine tune each gear is awesome
@@chris1275cc yes, but don't quote me on that, I don't have enough gravel miles on it yet to recommend it
Done 3000km on mine.
Friend of mine did 6000km. Replaced a chain at 5000ish. No complaints. Works as it should.
We did get an experienced mechanic to fine tune it for us. Wasn't as smooth before he tuned it. He'd never used the app or seen the groupset. He spent 10min or so playing around with it and said it was easier than any other app.
On our local flee market, the brand new 105 Di2 electric components are cheaper than Ltwoo right now.
Thanks for your testing and video. Thanks brave Ltwoo for challenging Shimano. We can have cheap 105 right now.
Glad you’re safe brother. Thanks for the review. Wouldn’t trust anyone else. Best wishes to you and yours. 🙏🏼
thanks for the long term review, Luke! I'm considering getting the ER9 and really appreciate that they improved over the first impressions which had some concerning issues.
Another great review Luke of another great product... Awesome quality and price mate👍👍👍
You’re quite the bike mechanic from frame repair to electronics, very impressive! I’m seriously pondering a ER9 group set, and the timing of this review is perfect.
Moustache magnifique!🎉🎉 Sad to hear of the slide out but glad to hear it was only a week off. Enjoy the thorough and comprehensive work as always, more funnies!!😊

Wating for EDS TX. Hope i will hear it from your review bcoz you are awesome in reviewing the details.
I have been using the MTB wireless group set for more than two years and no problems. Good contents thanks.
An eGR groupset is on the way. Very excited to see how it performs
3 months using the eRX groupset in all weathers. Working faultlessly. I'm really impressed. My only niggle is, with thick gloves I sometimes inadvertently change gear :-)
Love the content, digging the stache.
I've just taken delivery on mine, have about ~70 miles on it, and have had no issues whatsoever. the ability to fine tune each sprocket is pretty awesome. One thing I haven't found or noticed is the ability to save profiles for say, different wheelsets and freewheel setups. If it is in the app, I didn't come across it. Otherwise, solid groupset, and nice to have a 3rd alternative out there for wireless shifting. Thanks for you honest reviews, between you and Joe, I was able to feel good enough to pull the trigger! 🥖🥖🥖🥖
I’ve got a groupset sitting in the box in my spare room ready to go on my new build once the frame (OG Evkin CF-025) and wheels arrive. I love this channel because I spend a lot of time perusing Aliexpress for bike parts and it seems like whenever I add something to my cart for next payday you upload a video on it 😂
me too,Im waiting for stuff from ali also, its an addiction
Just this morning I was re-watching your old eRX video and wondering how it was going, glad to hear it's gone so well!
Impressive update good to see the issues have been resolved.. still mechanical for me 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
I’ve put about the same distance into my eRX set. Apart from an early failure of the rear derailleur which was replaced free of charge it has been working flawlessly. Interestingly I have recently had the same issue with the up shifting. It seems to shift 3 gears with one touch on the shifter. I’ll have to have a look at the springs you mentioned. It’s actually been behaving though so don’t know why it happened. Either way I love it. Smooth, quick and the braking feels very solid. I live the feel of the grips too. They are slimmer than the shimano Ultegra so feel slicker. Enjoy the pasta! 🥖🍝
I just installed the ER9 groupset this week. Performance has been amazing for the $350 USD sale price I paid for the groupset. I had some issues with the battery cabling, but that has more to do with the frameset I was using. Also it seems LTwoo has ironed out many of the early problems. I also used the opportunity to swap over to a 12 speed cassette, because why not? This has to be the most user friendly electronic groupset on the market. Easy to service mineral oil hydraulic braking, user replaceable batteries, cassette speed flexibility and the ability to fine tune the gearing are all phenomenal. Keep up the good work as well! 🥖🥖🥖
Where did you get it for that price?
Luke, I really enjoy the content. Because of you I upgraded my old road bike for my son with sensah 11spd which works great. When do you think we'll start seeing L-TWOO sponsor a pro team. I really thing that's the next step to get the brand really out there and noticed. If the shifting is as good as you say it's only a matter of time. (btw, glad to hear you made it out ok after your crash)
I have 2 groupsets at home ERX and a ER9 and 0 issues so far, absolutely love it. Ordered a third one for the gravel bike lol
Can it do 1 button shifting and handle the front chain ring by itself like di2?
Thanks for the update, interested to see how the new grp works out.
Just in here 12 seconds into watching the video to tell you the mustache absolutely slaps. Keep it going!
Looking forward to seeing the Blue Edition improvements 🥖
Would you do also for wheeltop?
Thank you for another great video.
I’ve had my share of issues with SRAM FORCE AXS, so…. Nobodies perfect. L-TWOO seems to have figured it out, all for it.
Very good review
Such a good Video!!! great sum up!!
First of all thank you very much for your review. It's very useful. It helped me understanding that's not a real point buying this group-set over the Sram Apex AXS that comes fully equipped with cranks as well. The price difference doesn't really compensate the risk of having a problematic unit. That's the main issue here. I still have the feeling that quality assurance with these products is a big question mark and a kind of a lottery.
I'll still keep using mechanical groupsets as they are still significantly cheaper and they have historically been supported for longer periods (the more sustainable option) but we will see with the rollout of Shimano CUES as this may change. Keep up the good work Luke! 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Isn’t Cues already out? Or are they planning an electronic version?
@@lbgstzockt8493CUES is Shimano's budget mechanical groupset. No plans for an electronic groupset yet. Not sure how it will be supported long term.
same story as you on my end. it's been pretty flawless for the last few months after I swapped out the rear derailleur. looking forward to getting my hands on the newer version.
Got my eRX delivered in november 2023 and finished the build early 2024. Put out about 1200km since then and had no issues at all. Everything was working so well, I even completely forgot to charge it after the first 100% and the battery died on a ride after about 650km with lots of climbing and therefore a decent amount of shifts. Because of the issues by Joe, Grant and yourself I was at first not very happy with my decision to place the order. Now I would for sure recommend the groupset without hesitation.
Would you pick l-twoo erx over wheeltop’s eds tx?
Just installed my egr groupset today. I was very impressed with the quality easily on par with Force or Ultegra. Only worry I have is the exposed charger, much prefer di2 charging ports.
Dammit, this is way more interesting than I'd hoped for. I was pretty comfortable in my mechanical bubble. 😂
Thanks, Luke! You've once again earned your 🥖🥖🥖
Looking forward to the blue edition build. On the short list for a winter build later in the year. Hopefully out in the UK by then.
Absolutely love my er9!
IF they made a cable brake version, I would buy 2 sets right now! But Wheeltop does make a cable brake version and if they make it available in states, I'll get it. Glad you are ok from your fall. Love your channel!
I bought 2 sets ,Im waiting to see if they come out with a rim version ,Im gonna jump on them if they do,hopefully they read these comments
I want it so bad! I'll wait probably another year for the kinks to be ironed out and availabilty to improve but I'm getting it for sure! Never thought I'd be able to afford electronic shifting so soon. Even 105 Di2 costs an arm and a leg where I live. Thank you China!
Buy it .. also, can get it cheaper if you buy it out of the box ..
@@philipsimmonds1103 I was looking at it, what does out of the box even mean? Surely they have to package it in a box anyways...?
@arviddh they have a fancy presentation box .. or a normal packaging box and Alloy shifters $100 off ..
@@philipsimmonds1103 I can only find the older version tho, not the newer "blue edition" that is shown at the the end of the video, since they're still rolling that one out. Although I'm eager to jump on it I much rather wait for that updated version
@seraph4581 the old version was not problematic for me .. FYI.. I paid $850 cdn .. free shipping
Good news for those of us that took the plunge and bought it. In my opinion the redesigned front mech motor cover is a great improvement over the original. The rest is primarily cosmetic.
Very impressed with my EGR groupset. Shifting was easy to dial in and is buttery smooth. Time to log some miles and might buy a few more sets for my other bikes
With all respect to Luke and his content I just interrupted playback after issue section as it's clear to me I'm not going to buy electronic derailleurs/shifters with my own money unless I'm being paid to use 'em. That said, content is very well laid out and very useful, thank you!
I've just put the ERX on a gravel frame as I'll be primarily riding on the road and it's been a dream! I just need two more for some other builds.
I love the eRX. 8 months. I run 11 speed now to match my other bike. Cheaper chains and can share wheels.
3mths since install and everything is good and flawless.
What cassette are you using? Very curious as I have become hesitant with mixing brands in recent years.
Hi Luke, my erx was working faultlessly for about 3 months which with the amount of riding i do is about 1000ish miles, then after a recharge of the batteries the shifters no longer worked. I could shift gears using the app but the shifters weren't playing. I changed the coin style batteries in the shifter and tried to bind the shifters to the derailleurs. But no joy. Like you i replaced the rear derailleur with one i had on another bike i have just built and immediately everything started working as it should do. So there is definitely a problem with the rear derailleur. I am now in communication with Ltwoo to try and get this sorted and hopefully get a replacement rear derailleur under warranty.
I would love an update to this. Main worry I have is customer support/replacement stuff.
@@arviddh Still having problems with communication with Ltwoo.
from pandapodium: "The “Blue Edition” won’t be available til the second half of 2024."
I was wondering how to make sure you'd get the Blue edition... thanks for the date info.
Bonus clips was one fine 🥖
Any chance for a shifter comparison between ltwoo version 1,2 and wheeltop? Im quite curious how the ergonomics between those three compare. Best regards and and thank you for all those lovely videos!
Good video man. Rim brakes and mechanical shifting on my road bike till I die. I keep everything clean, lubed and fine tuned myself, so everything works flawlessly. Very few things that can go wrong on mechanical if properly maintained. Lots more stuff that can go wrong on electronic shifting. Even a simple battery contact will stop everything from working. Or a simple dry joint in the electronic printed circuit. Not for me thanks. To each their own 👍🏼☮️
I agree ,I do all my own work so I never had a problem but I have 10 roadbikes so I wanted to try these & for the price it was hard to pass up compared to shimano
I praise you for having the patience for this unfinished crap! The lack of reliability and unknowns…. Would drive me mad. Need stuff to work!
Ciao Luke!!! I'm really impressed seeing your third-person action video. Why not making a video about that? In particular about on how to mount the camera on the bike and what to use to do so (I tried with insta360 one r, with very bad results), so it would be interesting to know some advices from you!! Bye!
Good to hear the issues have been mostly ironed out, but I'm still personally glad I went with 105 Di2 when I upgraded to electronic shifting late last year. The price difference between eRX and 105 Di2 here in China wasn't big enough to make me take the gamble of going with the still not totally proven Chinese competition.
Bought the erx groupset from panda podium. Amazing experience. Only one issue the hand shifter wouldn’t bleed. Panda podium are going to replace the left hand shifter. Amazing customer service. Hopefully the new shifter turns up 🥖🥖🥖
I'm using a ERX groupset too.
I had an issue after cleaning the bike, but after some days de rear derailleur back to work.
Soon I will post a review too :)
Aaaand I'm want to test the gravel electronic groupset.
Holy shit i have never been this early
BAGUETTES FOR YOU 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
me neither! bloody miracle because i love the fella
TWSS!
Hi Trace... been a long time admirer of your youtube clips... i got the ERX in Feb24 and had few issues.
The compression plug for the brakes was broken, issues with calibrating the rear derailleur the worst is i asked for simple explaination of what 'gear protection' and 'one touch shift' on their app but have not recieved any response back.... have you had these issue?
At the moment I have traveled 1300 km in three months (most of it dry) and it has performed excellent. Initially during installation there were problems with the front brake bleeding, but once this was solved it worked well. (black first edition)
Luke, what version of the software do you have? The one I own only has a 10-12s option.
Yes finally!!!!!
Thanks for the update Luke! I was so close to pul lthe trigger on the eRX until I saw you had a new version ;) Do you happen to know when or where we can get our hands on the groupset?
Luke is Our wallet hero and save the day❤
I would love to see a mainstream brand feature this as a bundled group set.
Early adopter of erx here. At first the groupset charging light didn't flash. Battery ran low very quickly, i had to send my battery pod (expensive :/, but let's call it ocassional chinesium tax) they told me they would refund me the shipping costs, but it hasn't happened since the say they can't give me money, i guess i could ask for some brake pads, not ideal but i would eventually need them anyways. At the end it was the RD causing the problem. They sent me a replacement RD (half of the cage was aluminum lol) i swapped for the original carbon cage mainly because black paint/anodizing? falls very easily. Everything smooth since then. My only complaint is that trimming is not always perfect while in the middle of the cassette, sometimes i have to trick the groupset to use the next cog trim setting for the front derrailleur by up-shifting -> trim -> down-shifting again, maybe i am not adjusting my groupset right.
Oh to be a 3d rendered cheetah from a chinese bike component manufacturer on the Serengeti. I could only dream.
thank you
Hey Luke, been watching your coverage and one thing I’ve always wondered is how you set up/bleed the hydraulic brakes on these groups (ltwoo and wheel top). Are shimano or sram bleed kits compatible?
Hi thank you for this video. Is this group available for disc only, or Vbrake too?
Luke, can you ask your Ltwoo contacts if the new brake calipers are trickling down to the rx and r9 groupsets? I'm hopefully gonna pick up one of those in the next 6 months and would love those new calipers
This is the content I’m here for.
Gotta say though, with the price of 105 di2 dropping a tonne in the last year, L-Twoo probably needs to do something to differentiate this product from di2.
I love your channel !
Do you know if L-twoo will do a TT bike groupe set ?
I can wait for the tx
Great video. Thanks Luke. Do you know if Ltwoo or sensah have any plans to produce bar end shifters? Id love to be able to put these on my rim brake TT bike.
Good to know, that finally there is solid Chinese competitor to vastly expensive Shimano and SRAM systems. Do we already know which price range L2 is targeting? Cheers.
I installed the product about 6 months ago and traveled 2000km.
I'm not satisfied at all: I've got a SRAM 12s 10-28 cassette and a Racework 170mm 50-34 at the front.
The front derailleur has a lot of difficulty going from small to large, I tried to adjust the limits from the application but if you exceed it the chain falls.
The rear derailleur is not that bad but you have to spend a lot of time making micro adjustments on the gears as it is very imprecise.
I wanted to try it after watching several videos but my advice is to spend a little more by purchasing a SRAM or Shimano so you can be sure of perfect functioning.
Customer service is almost non-existent, they respond with messages from a bot and after a long time.
This is good news. More competition is a good thing. 🥖🥖
Two wishes for them:
1. be able to cope with some unusual gravel/touring gearing choices e.g. 42T in the back and a tiny subcompact double in the front.
2. satellite shift buttons for aerobars
eRX looks great but is actually cheaper than Di2 105 if you have to add on the cost of the chainset?
i have just finish my bike nd i mounted a ER9, it was the cheaper solution, and all the process went smooth. the most complicated part has been (or maybe "is") the fine tune of the front derailleur. i really don't know if the issue is related to my setup but it is complicated.
Can you spray water from different angles : from the front, from rear, from bottom, top, from the left whilst cranking and shifting on both derailleurs?
I think this will determine the water-proof-ability once and for all.

What about the sensah empire hrd?? How is it going? Congrats Luke!
Люк как всегда молодец!
As a geek this appeals but as a practical rider I prefer the inherent simplicity of a conventional cable operated derailleur. Modern shifters are so good now, I struglle to comprehend the problem a costly amd less serviceable electronic shifter brings. Auto trim is cool I guess and elimjnates the need for understanding trimming?
Bought erx last night, sent back to seller after the FD dead this morning 😅
Yaaasssss!!! 🥖
I did my first ride, 60km battery 86% when back, weird it's double of your battery consumption. Only thing is I have to better setup the front derailleur. The in between shift goes really close to the chain
Are you going to do more fall falling over damage test results? 🙃
Problem with battery, can die at any time(and needs relacement if it happens) and has a water proofing issue. Sounds like anything but a good experience to most of us.
Hope everything is well any future updates on the egr gravel version cheers take care🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Hi Luke! Could this be used without the front derailleur, as a 1x system? (ignoring of course there is no clutch mechanism).
How is the brake lever feel? If I replaced my mechanical 11-speed 105 for any reason, it would be the very long free travel of the lever before the brakes bite. I hate it so much.
Hi Luke, what about the batteries in the wireless shifters? Is there any low battery warning or what?
Another month on and my LTWOO eRx is still working really well apart from the up shifting issue. It's intermittent but seems to occur during the heat of the turns with my riding group which can be a bit disconcerting and annoying. I think the lever might be a bit too sensitive so I'll deep dive into the software to see if I can adjust it. Any other ideas?
Any chance you could show the dismantling of the shifter? I accidentally overtightened my brake tension screw and it came out 😢
Had some issues with waterproofing after a bikewash after unplugging it overnight it is fixed. During raining rides i didnt had this problem i think i gona seal it with isotape or so.
But i think customer service on ali is terrible
