Summoner Gameplay (PS2)

- I picked up the game Summoner for the Playstation 2, and I decided to record some gameplay of it to make sure that the game ran just fine. As usual with my PS2 games, this was recorded through component cables plugged into my component to HDMI upscaler box, so the footage is in 720p. It, also, looks sharper thanks to the upscaling.
Summoner was a Playstation 2 launch title. Along side Eternal Ring by From Software, Summoner was one of two RPGs available for the system at launch. It was received decently but not great. It did get a sequel, also on the Playstation 2, but it seems largely forgotten about today.
Summoner is kind of a unique beast of an RPG in that this is basically a CRPG in the same vein as Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment. It was, however, developed from the ground up to be a Playstation 2 exclusive, at least at first. There was a PC version later on, though the sequel never made its way to the PC.
Upon release, the game was praised for its story, story telling and rich lore. It was, also, praised for its sheer size and the amount of things to do within its world. It was considered a stepping stone for console RPGs and a big departure from the console RPGs of the past.

I played the hell out of this game 20 years ago! Great game!
It's crazy how much better the graphics seemed in my memories of playing this game.
I never played it but it looks worse than I imagined it would, based on marketing materials from the time
Bout to fire this on the ps2. Why do I like retro gaming more than modern gaming?
We did do a podcast about modern gaming and what is wrong with it if you are interested

Art vs money
Back then games had a soul
Games were just designed better unfortunately people just care about graphics now.
Me too! Classic games feel like they are video games to me... Playing Skyward Sword now on the wii... I want to try this game Summoner!
I remember surprising myself with the 2nd ending, this game brings back so many memories
Why I never played this game before, well it's coming to ps+ I'll give a try
@@hendrix4207 yeah I HOPE Summoner 2 comes to Ps+ because 2 was so much better than 1
Na man, I have to disagree, but I did enjoy 2. TURNING INTO the monsters was a negative in my book. Wish they make a pt 3 though!@@saitamaro6969
I grew up with this as a child I found it really hard but loved it at the same time never did complete it
Same lol I think I got somewhat past the sewers or tombs or whatever the segment was but never got to beat it
I remember a castle and a big city. I couldnt for the life of me know what to do.
I loved this game when it came out.
It's on the PSN store, 10 bucks!
Ooo I loved this game when I was a lad.
Well damn, this one is coming to the ps5!
I own the ps2 game but I can’t play on my 4k tv so I buy it again for ps5
Got this for the PS5 all time favorite game, NOTHING tops this. I'm not a hardcore gamer per se, but I don't know any other game that has this type of combat system. LOVE IT
It got ported to PS5? That explains why this video is getting so much attention all of the sudden
@DigitallyDelirious dude I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been asking for this game for YEARS. I saw an article on it, went to my bathroom at work and immediately bought it. It's an emulator, 10 bucks!

40 minutes in and you're still not to the summoner part of Summoner? Feels like this will be a long one.
Beat both summoner games for ps2. Was definitely one of my favorite games before switching to the next gen consoles.
Loved this game even with its extreme popup 😂 heard people say it was a launch title but I remember it coming out at least a week after the ps2 was launched (UK) I might be wrong tho
That would be described as a launch title they don't have to come out the same day as the console to be described as a launch title just close to launch.
@@bagelbomb1887 I'll have to disagree with you on that one! Launch means it was released with the launch of the console not a week later that's not launch is it?
About to play this for the first on ps5
Emjoy
good game. never reached Baldur's Gate or any of the ones you mentioned; in either combat mechanics, or narrative, or diversity of character/party builds, or graphics - but it had a charm of its own and did everything it set out to do quite competently, even if not outstandingly

I remember buying this game around the time we got a PS2 and only playing it for around 30 minutes before going "This game is boring and f*cking ugly." And then never played it again. Just recently I was trying to think of what this game was until I realized by pulling old games out that I still have it. Granted, my tastes were a bit different as a dumb kid (I was 10 or 11) so I'd be curious how I feel about it now. I just heard, coincidentally, that there may be a remaster/remake or the original version coming to PS4/PS5.
How is it with mouse and keyboard?
I remember the release of this game at the time, which shows how revolutionary it was, using Full screen anti-aliasing FSAA on PS2, this is so nostalgic.
this deserves a remake/remaster damnit
Me and my sister use to play this game a long time ago but never beat it. I wonder if they could get started on making a remake version of the this game.
The PC version is available on GOG if you are interested
@@DigitallyDelirious I'm more interested in having it on the PS4 or PS5.
@@stephanieeiche5109 I cannot hlep you there. I would love to see a remaster of both games though
@@DigitallyDelirious m too
@@stephanieeiche5109 There's nothing stopping you from playing the original one. Can't handle the gwaphics? :'( remaster pwease my wittle eyes cant handle the gwaphicsss :(
Dropped by because I was told this game is like Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage on the N64 by THQ / H20 back in 2001
I have not played it. Sorry
@@DigitallyDelirious Totally understand but curious, have you ever heard or played the game balders gate? I am told it is also similar to both of these games but know little about it and figured I would ask around other people on here that have similar interests what they think
@@Shamsukz The CRPG for PC or the hack n slash dungeon crawler for hte PS2?
@@DigitallyDelirious Oh wow I didn't know that there was multiples I'm curious about both honestly!
@@Shamsukz The PC games are early Bioware titles from the late 90s. They are excellent if you enjoy CRPGs. I have not played the hack n slash games though

Cool…
Where do I go to get more walk threws of this particular game, please.

Need a remake but I take port I own this wonderful game and now be buying it again for my ps5. And by way I own premium tier but I want buy it to support it . I only play games free if I don’t want buy it
I don't know if the original Devs will get anything if you buy this didn't they get bought out ?
How do you play this game on the new TVs that are out today I own the game I miss it as a child but I’m not exactly sure how to hook it up with the PlayStation to console
Does your TV take component input? If so, that is, always, a good option. If not, you could always try an HDMI cable for the PS2. I reviewed one here:
czcams.com/video/0qGzQBOgqwc/video.html
@@DigitallyDelirious ty So I have an LGCX olead and I want to play The summoner and Champions of Norrath and all ps2 games etc and Legends of dragoon that’s a ps one game any info on this or if it’s Possible with a decent picture would be nice or how to set it up or if it’s better for me to get a PlayStation four or three if these games are available on the PlayStation networks etc. cus I have no clue
@@michaelsaunby6411 ps2 component and hdmi looks pretty great on some newer TV's and not very good on others. It just depends on the specific model honestly.
use a component cable if your TV supports it (component = red, green, blue ports, plus white & red for audio, so 5 separate plugs. 3 for video, 2 for audio)
Wow, sorry to say that this looks horrible. Even by PS2 standards, it looks more like a well-polished PS1 game.
this legit looks like an n64 game, PS2? shameful lol
