I'm sure you saw the signs for the KOA at Devil's Tower. In 1993 took a family vacation to Black Hills in our 1990 Ford Tempo and 1964 Continental pop-up trailer (basically a canvas tent on a box with wheels). Our way back to Colorado included a night at the Devil's Tower KOA. The KOA sits right outside the monument boundary. Every night they showed Close Encounters of the Third Kind under the stars. That was a great experience for my 10 year old son whose favorite movie at the time was Close Encounters.
Another great video of the American west. Thanks for taking us along to see Devils Tower. Haven't been there for years. And every thing is so green right now. Really enjoyed it.😊
Thank you so much for taking this trip by Devils tower!! Love this, been following your video's for a month now, Awesome Country, Thank you.. stay safe out there and catch ya again later.
Awesome Michael, thanks for the ride and thanks for traveling down a highway that I can honestly say, I have not traveled on before! All those years on the road, never got close to Devil's Tower, so this was an added treat for me to see the country side and see Devil's Towers! Happy trails and hope you're able to take that load to Phoenix. Be safe and peace
This ride brings back a song haven't heard in long, long time. Oh, home home on the range, where the dear and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word and ? ? ? all day. Was that a Gene Autry song?
Thanks for posting this video, among others. I'm a new subscriber and I live how you're a truck driver and recording your trips taking us along for the ride! Keep us the fabulous job! **I'm watching your older videos too!**
ran across your videos the other day by accident...just wanted to say ive been watching them every night until the wee hours being home from work during the covid....never been out west so this is a treat..what beautiful farmland out there...amazing how much land there is in this country...rough winters out there id imagine though....weird how that tower is out there all by itself...thanks for the videos...!
Awesome video, glad you finally got to see the Devils Tower Mike…nice! My son and I rode out to Wyoming 6 years ago on our bikes from Pennsylvania and that was one of our must stops.
Love that area of Wyoming. Absolutely beautiful. Years ago we stayed at the KOA right outside the gate to Devil's Tower. Great view of the tower from the campsite.
Hi Mike,Great videos, I like the longer videos 30+ minutes, hope you continue to produce more. I am looking forward to one day doing road trips across the USA and exploring places such as Devil's Tower in Wyoming, Sedona Arizona, visiting the Grand Canyon again or the everglades. Keep the shiny side up and keep on trucking.
I'm driving to Montana from NC starting tomorrow. One of our many stops will be Devils Tower. It would be so cool to see you on the highway during our trip. Stay safe and thank you for allowing me to ride with you.
We do these roads when we come to Sturgis, great place those Black Hills and surrounding areas. So good to see them via your lense, better than my old photos
Great video. Been there twice both in the summer, don't remember it so green, I must have been there in late summer. Can't hike to the top of Devil's Tower, you can mountain climb to the top, saw people doing that. You can hike around it, very nice paved trail (probably for wheelchairs). If you're into nature, definitely worth the trip.
Wow Bergy. Been a while since I've done this video but I do remember it vividly.. thanks for bringing it back to my attention and thanks for watching ☮️
Devils Tower was the first declared US National Monument. I visited in person IN 1978...Close Encounters was my favorite movie back then. My family hiked around the base of the monument. We took photos. It took less than 1 hour to walk around the massive structure. The rocks at the base of the tower are HUGE. It was well worth the visit! The next night we stayed at a hotel in Wyoming. Close Encounters was playing at a local drive-in theater. Yes, we piled in the car and went to the drive-in that night! Good memories.
@@ridingshotgun1251 A little Indian folklore for the next time going past Devil's Tower. An Indian princess was being chased by a bear, where she was standing suddenly raised up out of the ground for her protection. The gouges in the Tower were from the bear trying to get to the princess. Thanks for the trip!
re: discussion around 19 minutes about getting an unwanted additional line with a new mobile. In New Zealand, it is a very simple matter of transferring the "SIM" ("Subscriber Identity Module", a smart card inside a mobile phone, carrying an identification number unique to the owner, storing personal data, and preventing operation if removed) from one mobile to another. If a mobile is lost, the agent of the "mobile carrier company" can terminate the operation of the lost "SIM" (they have unique identity numbers - something quite different from the Mobile telephone number) and create a replacement with the same mobile number as was the one lost, and put that in a new mobile device. It sounds as if your mobile networks are set up in a "make it difficult" mode.
I've been at the base of Devils Tower. Its an amazing structure. Edit: I LOVE the movie Paul huge fan of Simon Peggs movies. Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are also fantastic.
Always nice country. I used to travel it every year, running between Belle Fourche and Crow Agency, on the way to Alaska. I still think the first two weeks of June is the best time for it.
Devil's Tower is a sacred spot for indigenous Indians in the area. It is closed to the public from time to time so they can pray and hold their sacred ceremonies. I walked around it the day it reopened to the public. The trees were covered with prayer ties. I added my prayers to theirs. It's an easy climb and the view from the top is sweeping and beautiful.
That’s no volcano. I went there when I was 7 and I thought it was a giant petrified tree trunk and it still looks just like a giant petrified tree trunk. It is so out of place there compared to the rest of the surroundings. Honestly it gave me the creeps as a kid and I’ll never go back.
Back around 1940 a guy parachuted to the top of Devils Tower and spent a week there cause he didn't take enough rope to get down. If I remember right the History Guy has that story.
Where are all the kleghornse ,excuse my spelling, it sucks, but what a beautiful HWY you where on ,never been up there, never seen devils tower ether, only on TV ,close encounter, great video ,thanks for sharing, and before I forget,I hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas and happy and safe new year, PIECE.
Mike, did you notice the little mountain, upon which Devil's Tower, and the red-colored scarp to the right of Devil's Tower? Those WERE featured in "Close Encounters". We saw those first, when Richard's and Melinda's characters were held prisoners at the "Shadow Gov't's." compound. Then they successfully escaped, made it to the top of the little mountain, then circled around to the Northwest side, where the Gov't. had constructed that landing strip, in the little valley. I don't know if that valley actually exists though, in real life. That movie is a TREASURE!! If the National Park Service an allow Location Shooting for a Major Motion Picture, then they certainly can grant QUALITY LOGISTICS, an EXCLUSIVE Freight Contract, to service them, and Park Concessionaires, so that you can take your rig, ALL the way in, as you make drop-offs, deliveries, and pickups! Now, wouldn't THAT be exciting??
It always look great like this until the 1st of July and then it’s all bundled up...I was living there many years.,,,It is pretty in early spring/summer.,,,
You can hike around Devil's tower. It's a small mostly asphalt trail I think the total circumference of the trail is like a 1/4 or 1/2 mile I don't exactly remember. I was there in like 06 or 07. But you can't hike to the top there's no way to get to the top
