- Recorded at the Novello Theatre London ENGLAND.
A light hearted entertaining overview of BUDDY HOLLY an artist that in two short years changed the future of popular music throughout the WORLD . .forever! He died tragically aged just 22.
And the rest will be . . .just Rock n Roll. - Zábava
I am pleased that the good outweighs the bad, therefore I will delete any negative and stupid comments *IMMEDIATELY* so don't bother.
Examples: "this is not the Gary Busey film🙄" or the "experts" that mention Ritchie Valens character 😴
This is a light overview of events and his last show! Any true Buddy Holly fan can see that it is NOT a totally accurate portrayal, but it is a great way to introduce him and his music to those who are interested in his songs, and very short life. Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens are integral contributors and characters to Buddy’s concert tour, and if you wasn’t on it, don’t get on the moral high ground about how they are portrayed. *THIS WAS UPLOADED FOR ENTERTAINMENT TO BE ENOYED, AND NOT FOR THE KNOW IT ALL EXPERTS!* 🤫
What's your personal opinion on the character of Ritchie valens in the play.
The show has to make the characters larger than life. Other than when performing they would probably have been too tired to horse around, and been boring.
Ritchie Valens was a 17 year old teen not a 45 year old man so I imagine him to be boysterous.
@@TomClarkSouthLondon ok, thanks for sharing
You are welcome, 🙏
IWell he certainly is for me🙏
My uncle meet buddy at the surf ball room 1959 he was a stage hand helping the performers with there instruments he’d said when they arrived they were so tired sick and cold but very professional
Buddy kept mentioning how he wants to arrange a flight after the show .
I’m 76 and lived per buddy’s life and death. The buddy holly movie was the best ever.Gary bused was nominated for an academy award then he went off the walls on coke.I live 25 miles from the theater in ny. Where his group was the first white group to play at the
Appolo. Standing ovation 1957
Shane Well I hope you have enjoyed this "theatre" production 🙏
I'll be honest. This is the nearest I've heard to be like Buddy Holly since people started doing tribute bands.
I met Buddy in 1958, and he was a great person and always remember that shy grin on his face. R.I. P. . .
Lucky devil, I wish I could have met him born way after the crash and yet feel a powerful hold to it really wish I could have met him. Well one day I will and that’ll be the day I die.
Lucky guy, cherish it.
Wow was he friendly and nice my parents grew up with his music and introduced me to it when I was in my teens
@@ambersalcove I bet he was, he was alive in the most racist time of history and still went on a plane with a hispanic Ritchie valens and respected him and blacks
Lucky
Buddy Holly is the most important Rock & Roll artist of all time. It’s incredible how he knew what he wanted even though he was such a young man.
I have to congratulate this young man on his brilliant portrayal of Buddy Holly. Easily the best I have ever seen!
I appreciate and agree with everything you wrote 👍
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ONLY IN AMERICA , WE NEVER FORGET JUST HOW GOOD IT WAS , HAMBURGER DRIVE -IN'S , THE MUSIC , THE CARS , YOUNG GIRLFRIENDS / BRIDES TO BE !!! GOD PLEASE BRING IT ALL BACK SOON !!!!
Buddy died the year before i was born. I've loved his music for over fifty years and even now i cry when i watch any tv programme about him. Such a talented and wonderful person to be lost like that was an absolute tragedy. Can you imagine what he would have created had he been given the chance? This stage play has to be one of the best versions of Buddy i've ever seen. Credit to all those involved. Superb.
Don't you know. I was 2-1/2 months old when the plane crashed. If only, wow I think this the best there will ever be.
watch La Bamba if you want to cry
I was in the 9th grade when that plane crashed. It was a Tuesday, and we were let out of school early that day because so many people were crying, and not just the students, but many of the teachers also.
I was negative 7 months. I it makes me kind of sad for what my birth year is remembered for.
The guy playing Buddy got me playing guitar. After seeing this show in 2003 I wanted a guitar. Still play it and having physical difficulties. It's an accomplishment to play anything. Buddy Holly is definitely my inspiration and this show does Buddy Holly and his memory justice
Lovely comment.
stick with the Guitar, we all stated where you are. If it was an easy instrument to learn, you would not feel a sense of achievement 👍🙏❤️
Same! I picked a guitar up after watching his Ready Teddy!
Incredible version. This guy does an awesome Buddy Holly.
Thats gary busey
Ted Munson lol his name is Gus and he’s a lot better than Busey. And he’s from Ireland
So who is the actor
Angus MacGregor. He did not like Buddy Holly's music until he started performing as him. All vocals and instrument playing are by the actual actors (Busey and them did their own singing and playing too, but the guitar was overdubbed).
I think this is buddy
The King Of Rock N Roll: BUDDY Holly👏👏👏👏👏👏
I'm not a musical kind of guy, but I love Buddy Holly and this was amazing!
Buddy would be so proud.
I am so lucky That I am now 80 and lived thru the buddy holly era and lived to enjoy such a great voice. God Bless you Buddy and thank you mate.
Sorry Beatles, but, True Love Ways is the best song ever recorded, thanks Buddy.
Real shame The Beatles outdid Buddy and he didn't even get some credit for being an icon of 50s Rock n' Roll and Rockabilly.
People know The Beatles as if they were the last source of music while barely 3/4 of people even know who Buddy is.
Nothing against The Beatles or anything. As a matter of fact, they're still one my favorites and most dear to me, but could Buddy Holly get his OVERRATED charm or trend to?
I'm saying everyone talks about The Beatles but no one talks about Buddy Holly and his Crickets.
@@hermeso9713 Buddy happened so fast, one day he's here next day he's gone.
I do love The Beatles, at one time I had a Beatles cover band, but they where a phenomenon, that's why people don't remember Buddy, and do to this day 55 or so years later remember the Beatles.
Peter & Gordon done the best version. Beatles hit after hit after hit..
Peter and Gordon recorded True Love Ways as a tribute to Buddy. The Beatles did Words Of Love and That'll Be The Day before the US ever heard of them. None of these compares to Buddy's versions. Only a Beatle nut would even put them above Buddy who was their inspiration in the first place. John and Paul both named Buddy as their biggest influence. The Silver Beetles were based on The Crickets. That's common knowledge. Paul not only bought the rights to all of Buddy's songs but released a MCA album called The Complete Buddy Holly. Later ,he made a documentary called The Real Buddy Holly Story. So, Paul would never put the Beatles above Buddy Holly. Remember, in June 1963, She Loves You was a low rated record of the day on Bandstand. In September of 63, Jack Paar had a clip of the Beatles on his Tonight Show .In January 64, we heard a few Beatle songs on the radio. And in February 64, we finially got to see and hear them. I was 18 and wasn't that impressed. My younger brothers were but except for a few songs, I wasn't really into them. They had their year in 64 but by years end, their fervor started to wane. I went back to Buddy Holly and never left. By 65, US artists were making a comeback. Overhyped and burned out, they struggled along until 69. Then they were gone leaving a legacy of drugs , crummy songs and brainwashed fans.
Not wrong I’m a massive Beatles fan John’s me Paul musically mean a lot to me however buddy is way above them, im 25 and no matter what I listen too it always come back to buddy holly
This is my favorite version of the Buddy Holly Story. The main character did a great job bringing Buddy's personality and talent back to the stage. He had that charming hint of Buddy's southern accent. I just loved it! I think Buddy would have loved it!
God bless his heart . This young man has the spirit of Buddy . And this is a wonderful short story of Buddy's life. And there is some amazing talent in this movie. Thanks to all that's made this show possible .
This is one of the best programs about Buddy Holly The music was as great as Buddy ever did it The acting was great too We love you Buddy Holly Rock on and Rest in Peace
I Love Buddy Holly And the crickets
I feel like I am actually watching buddy, this incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was/is a great entertainment based on facts,, sprinkled with some show biz. Seen the live show dozens of times.🙏🇬🇧
This was amazing. The cast is so talented and that they all actually played the music live is perfect. It adds so much to the feeling of a "live show." I was five when Buddy, Richie and The Big Bopper died, but my sister was ten years older than I, and she was a big fan, so I was so familiar with his music because of her playing it all the time that I was so sad when the news came over the radio. It was the first death of someone I felt I knew.
Watching this has brought back so many memories, both happy and sad.
Just a few years later, The Beatles came along, and I remember thinking, listening to their first couple of hits, how much they sounded like Buddy.
What a talent. What a loss.
It was the best buddy holly story i seen and seen alot of buddy holly movies and acts.
I enjoyed this performance. I've scene the Buddy Holly story with Gary Busey ,another Buddy holly performance on stage and Roy Orbison/Buddy Holly hologram show. All are good.
Great show , thanks Buddy Holly and love your and the musics
beautiful made i love this actor as buddy holly! best musical ive seen!!1
Saw the show on many occasions...always gets everyone up dancing in the aisles. Buddy's music will live forever.
Good for you 👍♥️🙏
From. deep in the heart of Lubbock, Tx. Thank you !
Absolutely love the humor I remember those uncomfortable times and how music broke the race barrier
The greatest Rock and Roll stars ever.
I love the Gary Busey.watched it over & over. Now I'm a fan of this. Buddy Holly Story. Plan on watching it over & over too. I love Buddy Holly
Man! This is fantastic. The fact thats he is really playing. Makes it that much better. The same for the whole cast. Just great!
So glad you enjoyed and appreciated it 🙏
One of the best rockers ever
This actor is talented!! He even got Buddy Holly's voice hicks down right!!
Apparently he wasn’t even a trained or professional actor when he got the role, think someone involved with the production convinced him to have a go after seeing him sing in a bar. Apparently he wasn’t even a Buddy fan at first but grew to like him!
His name is Gus mcgregor and was a busker I believe, he now writes and records his own music. He's amazing 😍. I've actually got him as a friend on Facebook
You mean it's not the real person?!!

Ich habe dieses Musical 5 mal gesehen in London. Für mich war es das beste Musical überhaupt, allerdings auch das tragischste.
Danke mr Holly für die tolle Musik😊

Auch mir!
I really liked the actor who played Buddy Holly. I enjoyed the musical!
Glad you enjoyed *Red* . . .Buddy is played by British actor Gus McGregor. 👍
Very good!!! The young man who portrayed Buddy Holly did a great job of playing him.
The actor's name is Gus MacGregor

American rock and roll forever amazing day show with Buddy Holly and the crickets🎤🎶🎼🎸♥️😀🥁
Great rendition of Words of Love. I’m sure Buddy would have greatly gave it his blessing. Nicely done 👍🏼🎶🎸
Although Gary Busey did a great Buddy Holly. I believe Angus Macgregor portrayed Buddy Holly exceptionally better. His voice, acting and overall appearance was absolutely right on. I've watched this version over and over. I love it!! I was only 3yrs old when Buddy Holly died. But I've been listening to his music all my life. The day the music died? Nope it still continues to survive! Thanks to Angus, (and Gary) it's still alive. Oh boy!!
Disagree.
@@thesound-chameleonman3580 You're opinion is well taken. Thank you.
Love the stage Musical saw this at least 22 times in the 90s, Paul Hipp, Joe Warren Davis, Billy Geraghty, play Buddy, never got to see the wonderful, Outstanding performance by Gus Macgregor on stage, so thank you Tom for this, Thank you, Buddy Holly was the best!!
I have been to the show more times than I can remember 🤔
For me Paul and Gus stand the most, but I thought some of the other “Buddy’s” were better guitarist?????
Glad you enjoyed it Cathy🙏♥️
@@TomClarkSouthLondon Hello Tom, my favourite will always be Gus to me he played the guitar just like Buddy.
I hope that one day the Buddy holly story Musical will be back in the west end of London, that's my Dream, take care Tom.
The woman who now does the TV show "Me or the dog", is originally an actress and she played Maria Elena Santiago on the UK Tour in 1994. She met her husband, who played Buddy Holly later in the show. A different actor from Gus
This was the ultimate Buddy Holly sensation. Thanks Tom for sharing this. RIP Buddy, your music will never die. Loved it!
You are very welcome my beautiful friend Sadie🙏So glad that you enjoyed and appreciate this wonderful upload 🌹❤️😘🤗
He did an amazing job playing Buddy. I'm sure it was kind of intimidating portraying such an iconic artist but this guy really nailed it.... He has a great voice as well no need to lip sync he nailed it. Great job! I've watched it 4or 5 times. I like his voice better than Gary Busey. I just think this guys voice is closer to Buddy's than Gary did.
Such sincerity and emotion shown singing True Love Ways. My favorite BH song. I'm 66 and have never seen the real Buddy Holly sing but I'm sure he would be pleased with how he's portrayed in this musical.
The second coming of Buddy. Fantastic 👍👍
OMG True loves way😢🌹💜👏What an amazing performance by this actor👏👏👏👏
True Love Ways.

That was the best Buddy Holly I have ever seen. Thank's Tom for sharing it .
I have seen the show dozens of times including this guy Angus McGregor, and I agree, he played Buddy well.
Best Buddy Holly I have ever seen is Buddy Holly. But this one does run a REALLY REALLY close second. Somebody tell him he should avoid Beech V 35s, snowstorms and inexperienced pilots. Crappy combination...

Makes me want to see John Mueller again. As someone that lives 2 hours away from Clear Lake Iowa I have always enjoyed going there to the Surf and while I am not old enough to have seen the real Buddy I did see John Mueller there doing his Buddy Holly along with the Big Bopper Jr before he had died.

Buddy plays a strat and the guys look like the original people. Beats the Buddy Holly Cartoon-I mean Story all to hell. The work they did on accuracy made this a really fun watch.
Is he not playing Strat?.. And do u know what is it, then?..bc I can't read writing on it's headstock. Plus, it looks like only 2 knobs, instead of usual Fender Strat 3
I saw this production live at the Strand theatre in London an amazing night!!
Great show, and better than any previous one. I enjoyed it very much. The star is a good singer, and the guy's that play the Crickets are right on too. Everybody in the show was good. So as Buddy said.....Rave On.

This is the best buddy in any buddy holly story, this guy is brilliant ☺️
I saw this on stage in Londons west-end, brings back some good memories, great quality, thanks.
When Gus is doing Rave On his opening weh-eh-eh-ehll and the growl on the crazy feeling are absolutely perfect. He sounds exactly like the real Buddy Holly. I'm not watching Angus MacGregor in this movie. I'm watching Buddy Holly. He's that good.
Gus is a fantastic musician

I was stationed in Clovis NM at Cannon AFB from 1982-1985. I drove past Norman Petty recording studio almost daily.
My Dad, Richard Kirk, did some recording there in the early 60s, when he was in college, a few years before I was born.
Saw this in the theatre a few years ago; fantastic.
Absolutely fantastic. I was lucky to see the production in NYC back in 1990, then in London in '96. As a huge Buddy fan, can't thank you enough for this post. This will introduce a whole new generation to his music. It's Buddy brilliant!

Saw the opening musical "the Buddy Holly Story " at her majesties theater in London in 1990.... blew me away, there is no substitute for the real deal but that musical gets a 12 out of 10.

This is really great ... just hearing "Words of Love" I thought was by the Beatles ..... I always loved that song...... and now I see it is really Buddy Holly's song about his wife. Those guys who wanted to bounce Buddy Holly and the Crickets out of the venue.... now joining in .... Amazing. What a story!
I enjoyed this a lot this guy nailed it. I remember advertising for this play from Sonic drive-in's when I was a kid (early 90's) even bought the soundtrack of the show on cassette. Buddy Holly was something special... Very smart. Wrote his own songs, produced. Made a name for himself in just a few short years. Influenced the Beatles. And many other 60's bands and only 22 years old! I can't imagine what else he would of done with his life and career if he hadn't gotten on that plane.
Man i wish I could see this live. Watching it on here doesn't do it justice. But I loved every minute of this. Thank you for sharing. Keep the music alive.
