Great vlog! Just glimpsed my gaffer - Greenwitch - in the inner channel at Felixstowe Ferry, not long before she was sailed away to Denmark by her new owner! Happy days and memories.
Hi Sam - you made hard work of this trip by not departing sooner on both days and consequently punching against the tide as it turned against you. That in turn saw you relying on your motor to make progress. Lots of advice for small boat sailing in publications such as East Coast Rivers that is particularly helpful suggesting the best times to enter and leave tight entrances such as the Deben. For example, If you had left the Deben at half flood you would have had 3 hours of tide with you all the way into the River Stour where your best destination for a secure mooring would be Wrabness.
Hi Dennis, thanks for watching. As long as i've got over the bar with enough depth im happy to plug tide elsewhere. Theres not much to play with even at HW. I've been caught out by the bawdsey knoll on a falling tide before, its a long wait and a bleak place to hold tight.
Nice one, visited this area many times but not sailed up their yet. Quick tip I fitted a matt screen protector on my tablet this year and it has made a world of difference as far as daytime visibility is concerned using navionics. Makes it as good as my dedicated garmin plotter screen.
Hi Sam. Been following your blog since last year, as I'm just up the river from you. out of Ipswich, on an oldf (new to me) Moody 33. I wondered what you used to mount your tablet? Looks like a gooseneck of some sort? Do you find it sturdy enough? Look forward to the next video. James.
Hi James, thanks for watching. The mount is quite stable (i experimented with a few) this one has a vice like clamp to secure it which means it is well secure. The neck is a bit long and so if it isnt rounded off in a helix it will drop, especially while at sea. The helix creates extra strength and keeps the Ipad in position. It's been really handy, as you see in this video it can be moved to either the cabin or cockpit. If i want to make it waterproof I put a tranparent plastic bag over top.
