Drummer Matt Cameron has played with Pearl Jam since the late 90s but him and Chris were already well established in Soundgarden. Pearl jam wasn't even a thing yet. Only became anything because Chris introduced Cameron and Bedder to former Mother Love Bone members to form this power band in tribute to the late Mother Love Bone lead singer Andrew Wood.

Chris Cornell wasn't singing in falsetto. He was singing it with mixed voice. There's no falsetto in this song. That's what made Cornell an impressive baritone. Vedder is a baritone as well and couldn't get that high.
