  • Filipino Roland Benzon, who’s in his 50s, moved to Singapore and initiated his sixth start-up in hopes the Deaf can better experience the joys of motion pictures in the cinema. The inspiration? His late sister-in-law, who taught him that simple subtitles weren’t enough for the Deaf community. The VR goggle-like device allows viewers to watch movies with simultaneous sign language interpretation.

I just got goosebumps. Being an Audiologist, I am so overwhelmed at this very moment watching this. Lots of love and prayers for this success.

This is amazing. I teach in an IB school in West Africa (Ghana) and my kids will be looking at how machines can improve the lives of people in the upcoming unit. In Sign Language, I was thinking of guiding them to learn how machines has improved the lives of the deaf and I chanced upon your video. I am really impressed. I wish I could get a resource person to explain this technology during a face time with them.

Appreciated the efforts to help Deaf enjoy movies with the VR goggles-like device. This is similar to the CaptiView; this is not very fulfilling or useful to most of the Deaf. Still thinking about it in a long run, it might affect the vision, because of one small device (like camera) on one side for one eye. Maybe, it could possibly contribute to developing astigmatism in one eye.
Having open captions/subtitles throughout the whole movies is considered as inclusivity. It is not only for Deaf & Hard of hearing, but it is also for those hearing who find the captions not to be eye-sore. Useful to autistics, too!
