Let's build the World's Smallest Flight Sim! Part 4 of 4
I've always wanted a flight simulator, but they take up a fair bit of space... So, I decided to make a small one, a really small one.
It was a fantastic and fun challenge, and even filming it was tricky, as it's so weeny that getting the camera to stay in the right place (and to hold focus while looking straight at screens or bright lights) was a right pickle.
The build is a combination of kitbashing, styrene construction, two Adafruit Trinkets, an Arduino Micro, a bazillion buttons and lights and of course the screens: A flexible main 6 inch OLED display at 1080p, and an extremely cool (but actually runs super hot) little 0.7 inch OLED, incredibly, also at 1080p. The sim software is DCS World, and the plane is the free SU-27T (also rather cutely known as the Frogfoot). The programming was done in Arduino IDE, as well as a bit of poking around in DCS World to configure everything.
And yes, it actually works, all of it. Each of the buttons does what they're supposed to do, and the controls really do fly the plane in realtime. It's somewhat vexing to do so with only one pair of hands sometimes 🤪 but it's totally possible with practice.

I love the evil scientist tone of voice you used haha. Thus is amazing. Saw it on reddit, but I didn't actually think the controls worked. Thought it was like a diorama. I was amazed when I saw all the controls working.
Most impressive was LANDING with those small, and analog controls.

I actually landed it first time, and believe me, no-one was more surprised than I, especially as I was all crouched up on the floor with it! 🙃 Subsequent landings were less successful however, and I had half a dozen blazing mishaps 🤪 All the buttons work, even though I need a special tiny tool to press them. The flight controls are re-enforced with metal so they don't get bendy. Fun to know that you came here from Reddit 🎩

@@MogsWorkshop I think the most impressive part about the landing was that the controls were analog - meaning that it's not an axis, only a button, so for example if you want the plane to go left, it's either all the control stick is pushed all the way left or nothing.
Even with life size controls, I think I would have a lot of trouble landing with just analog controls haha.
Aha, I thiiink I see what you mean. It does have axis sticks, not binary all or nothing buttons. So it was perhaps easier than you thought, and not such an incredible feat of raw piloting skill 🙃🎩 Check here and see if this part of the build makes sense of it all, or if I'm actually super confused and misunderstanding the whole thing (it's my first sim after all 🤪): czcams.com/video/0tijlfBKgI8/video.html
@@donniel7758 Analog means "relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position, voltage, etc." and the controls in this video are analog. I think you meant to say binary? But yeah, Mog's Workshop's comment seems to have cleared up the confusion; I just wanted to clarify that definition.
