    Hello Damian. I started foil windsurfing last year at the age of 54. It was obvious because I already had all the sails as a windsurfer. Unfortunately, here in Switzerland we hardly have any waves and we often foil on the various lakes when there is little wind. Thanks to Foil, I've doubled my water time. I love watching your videos. Your positive energy is palpable. I think I have to start wingfoling too ... When I see your buddy, I still have time for that. Thank you and have a good time on the water.

    The wing foiling song in my head these last 6 months . . .
    "When we're winging, we'll be singing
    I get knocked down
    But I get up again
    You're never gonna keep me down
    I get knocked down
    But I get up again
    You're never gonna keep me down
    Now we're winging, we are singing"

    Great video, as always. You're my go-to source for Wing Foiling instructional videos. I want to share a few insights for others who are just learning to ride waves: you really have to commit. Harry sort of indicates it in the beginning but that certainly was one of the main hold-ups for me in the beginning, I was constantly breaching because I didn't commit throwing myself forward. A bit like a drop-in on a skate ramp (I also just learned that one at my advanced age after my kids taught me patiently so I know what I am talking about). A 2 foot swell may look quite high because you are another foot higher at least on the foil plus 5-6 feet to your eye-level, so even if you are a regular surfer you think you are throwing yourself down a steep monster of a wave - but that is what you need to do. And expect to be fast. Especially if you ride swell and not breaking waves. Swell can be almost as fast as the wind, so it is possible to get faster than when you were wing-powered. Damien, other topic, speaking of breaching in general: can you make an episode about that? That was my single most annoying hold-up when learning wing-foiling. I quickly learned going upwind but kept breaching all the time. Until I mounted a GoPro to the underside of my board to prove to myself that I was actually breaching and there wasn't anything else wrong with my equipment and also how it happened. Peace! Jan

      +1 for the breaching tutorial request.
      Talking points could include, foil too big especially at speed, effects of shimming the foil, recovery tips when a breach is eminent (what to do with body, what to do with wing), recovery tips after the breach has happened, how to judge ride height, how far to look ahead, distractions by pretty girls, etc..

    Okay, just finished my first ever ocean session and will claim success...kept hearing you three (Gwen, Harry, Damien) give me advice about how to pick up the swell and basically not do anything too wrong. I got lucky on the shore break and timing of the sets to get in/out but damn it was intimidating and I basically got really lucky. So how about a video on how to get in/out through the shore-break. Esp when dealing with a big beginner board (95 ltrs) with no handle on the bottom, and two freaking leashes. Thanks & keep it up, and I want to meet Harry someday if/when he heads to NC.

    Great vid as always! Damien, is there such a board that would work for both wing and for hydrofoil wake surfing behind a boat? I know the wake surf boards don't have as much volume so maybe not possible.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 3 lety

      Technically the big wing boards would work behind the boat, not ideal as you don't need all the volume when you have power from a boat. I would say if you get better yes you can use a sinker board behind the boat and use the same board on a wing when it is a lot windier and you are a more skilled winger. Best option if you can is to have both as it takes time to use a sinker board on a wing. Or it takes a windy area... Then a 28-45L board will work....

    My 20 year old and 16 year old are showing me up. Should I stop feeding them or loosen the foil??? Kidding. I am on a in PA. Trying to learn to foil behind a boat but it's tough getting a driver and a spotter. But I am having a blast (and getting my sinus cleared out and the back of my brain) Thanks for the video. Next time my bro in law is around I am going to have him put out some rollers and try to foil the lake. Where are you guys located and do you give lessons, it's super easy for me to get to fll, pbi. I got the portable gear, as want to take with me on trips. Trying to get travel friendly batteries for my Evolve bamboo garden at. The goal, land in San Diego, skateboard over to the beach with the gear, use the lessons learned here and live my best life and fly back all in 48 hours. Rinse and repeat! Thanks for videos and let me know where you guys are at, if you do lessons.
