Children of Bodom - Finland's best selling artists of all time with more than 250,000 records sold in Finland alone, they released 10 studio albums.
We had a pleasure to interview Henkka Blaksmith of almighty Children Of Bodom during their final tour with Hexed album. Henkka shared some stories about band's history as well as shared his thoughts about new chapter in the life of the band. This interview was recorded at Tanssisali Lutakko in Jyväskylä on 14.12.19, a day before an Ice Hall Helsinki show on the 15.12.19 that became the last show of the COB as we all knew it, which makes it a final official interview of the band.
On our Behalf we would love to thank all band members for the 20+ years of outstanding music experiences and wish them best of luck in their future professional en-devours as well as thank Henkka for sharing his unique perspective with us.
ALM TV brings artists, musicians, show business and creative Industries actors together to help our audience learn, grow, develop and prosper.

I'm thirteen and a huge COB fan (Also a guitarist) The first time i saw them was the A Chapter Called Children Of Bodom show and, i cried when Janne started to play the intro to Downfall. Then after the show my dad just thought that "Hey, should we go see if the COB guys are still backstage", well they were. Saw Jaska's brother and talked with him a little and actually Jaska's brother went to tell Jaska to come outside so i could meet him, one of the nicest guys ever. Then came Daniel. Then came Henkka, one of the nicest guys ever. And last but not least, Janne. Waited for two hours in rain, and got to meet the guys (Cried a little more). @@ALMStudios well of course his talent for composing is something that people rarely has. Everyone who has worked with him says that, and that we can hear in his music. His sense of harmonies etc. And ofc his talent with guitar and speed.
COB had something so rare. There are not many bands who stick together for over 20 years. That is unique. Can’t even compare to bands like slipknot that changes line up yearly based. No soul there. COB boys are brothers and always will be. We heard that in their music also. And Janne’s talent is something very awesome too, not ofter recognized. Sometimes tho. Alexi and Janne brought keyboard to a whole new level for metal scene. And Janne is also one of the best players in the world.

I was never a big fan of Death Metal. The vocals and subject matter were never for me. I got into Slayer in the 90's. That's about as extreme as it got for me.
I never heard COB until after Alexi's passing. I've been checking out many clips of him performing and being interviewed, talking about guitars and gear. I was heartbroken when Randy Rhoads died. I loved his playing. I have a growing appreciation for Alexi. He was a wonderful guitar player. And, beleive it or not, I kind of like his vocals too. Hate Me! is a corker!
He seemed like a good guy and I love watching interviews with him. He was very appreciative of his fanbase and a very genuine, humble guy. I did'nt know what Lake Bodom was until I became transfixed by clips of COB performing live a week or so ago.

@@arlos21 I can hear a direct influence from the 'big four' bands plus Pantera. But also, I can hear Yngwie and Helloween. Power metal bands in general. Alexi was certainly influenced by Dave Mustaine. At least, to my ears. Not only in his playing but his between songs banter. Still, he found his own identity through it all. I'm sure he was a big Randy Rhoads fan. It's obvious to me. There is a ying and yang to everything in music. Beethoven had Haydn and Mozart. Mahler had Bruckner and Wagner. The key is to create an individual standard. Alexi accomplished that. Cheers!

After COB split, it's so sad to watch their videos, but now after Alexi's gone forever...it just beyond sadness n lost.
Started thinking that it's all makes sense for the sudden split, if everybody in the band already knew Alexi's illness. Because no COB means one thing for sure, less shows or touring...perhaps for Alexi's health too. I don't know.

This is a very good guess, thanks for taking the time to share it! Even if this is the case we can see the incredible level of dedication of Alexi to his craft as he embarked on a new band project right after the COB separation and that alone deserves a lot of respect, showing that he doesn't see himself outside of makign music. Regardless of what the case was his legacy will be passed onto the next generations of musicians and heavy metal fans, that's for sure, preserving memory of him for decades to come. They're like brother, right? Just...perhaps they knew. And thinking back, it's indeed about love and dedication to the music and to the people. Because I didn't believe it when I read comments like that they split because couldn't take Alexi anymore. I always see COB more than a band but like a family, so it doesn't make any sense if all three of them decided to quit. And yes, Alexi's love for playing was unstoppable, imo. His music will live forever.
