    Donner's done it again. They took the guitar world by storm earlier this year with their stunning array of HSS Strat models. Now they've introduced the DJP-1000, a truly outstanding take on the classic Gibson ES 335 (but without the $6,000 price tag!).
    No corners cut on this one...exquisite setup, full attention to detail, excellent fit and finish. From the neck-through-body design to near perfect frets, to the best action out of the box since the DST-400, this guitar lacks nothing, and far outshines anything else in its price range.
    In fact, they've even one-upped the Epiphone by including coil splitting on both humbuckers, giving you heaps of tonal control, whether you're dialing it in for jazz, blues, country, or rock.

    Update: Donner have responded after a rep chased them up and have refunded the difference. Very happy Customer.
    Just bought the Maroon one. Thing is the day after I bought the guitar direct from their UK site they sent a 30% off code which of course was too late. I have contacted them to see if they'll do the decent thing and refund the difference by way of good will as at that point I hadn't even received it. I maybe premature but 4 days have passed and I have a feeling they won't reply, they say 24hrs usually via message e mail. They have no contactable telephone number either and I'm somewhat concerned as there are some red flags online posts about Customer care. Thankfully at least the guitar is a good one . No issues apart from a little truss adjustment, bridge lowered slightly and bridge humbucker needed a slight lowering. Strings changed coz that ones that came felt grubby. I agree with another reviewer that the Tone pots are just like a Switch there's no real control. Tuners are fine as is the bridge so I see no reason to change those intonation is spot on frets nice and level and nice edges no notable fret sprout. Early days but this is a great guitar and I doubt I'd get anything like this at the price range or even considerably above it. So I'd recommend the guitar but the jury is out on the after care. I'll let you know. If they let me down it just means I wouldn't buy again from them however I am happy with this guitar . Thanks for your review.😮

    I watched your review and other's as well and then ordered the black one on Amazon. Even after seeing the good reviews i was still stunned when it arrived. I am 70+ years old and have owned almost every high end guitar made, but i really was impressed by this Donner guitar. In my case it came with a perfect factory set-up and i was left wondering what to do with my hands. So, i plugged her in and began falling in love with her. Maybe the best bang for buck guitar i ever owned. Now i am going to sell some of my guitars and buy the red one and the sunburst. The all maple wood with neck through construction makes this guitar durable and the tone selection with coil split capability seals the deal for me. The gig bag is ok but i will definitely buy hard cases for all three. There are quite a few nice guitars out there now for small money, but with the two dozen or so i have, none compares to this Donner. Sorry to all Epiphone fans, but i am serious when i say there are no Epi's out there for less than a grand that compares either. If this guitar is a preview of things to come, Donner will be a household name for musicians soon. Thank you for your great review and for making me pull the trigger on my first (but not the last) by this brand. I just subscribed .

      That's amazing. I'm so glad you're enjoying it, and I agree it's a serious competitor against the Epiphones at an even higher price point. I'm curious to check out the Eart version as well, as I've heard very good things about it. If you're interested in S types as well, check out the DST-400. Plays better than a Squier, and has an HSS configuration with a split bridge pickup. That one and the DJP-1000 are among my favourite gigging instruments for rock and blues.

    Bought one last month. Needed a bit of setup; frets leveled, bridge adjusted, intonation. But the fit and finish are beyond reproach, the sound is great for blues and jazz. The split pickup feature is versatile. The pots could be shimmed a little lower in the body, and the tone pots are using the wrong taper, but overall an excellent, good-sounding, beautiful, easy-to-play guitar. Especially at that price.

    • @DamianBeltrami
      @DamianBeltrami Před 2 měsíci +1

      My volume pots are bad. From 0-2, i get no sound. After that the sound kicks in but with no discernible difference as you roll up to 10. Tone pots seem to be ok but not with a great amount of variation from 0 - 10. Is that the experience you get? Have you tried replacing the pots?

    Just curious if anyone else here has compared this to the grote 335? I know the Donner is a much higher quality guitar my curiosity is all about the neck specs and feel. The Grote has the most comfortable neck I've played but it's not a tone monster by any means, I put some alnico fives in it and helped quite a bit but if I could live with the neck on the Donner I think I'd probably be in heaven, plus it has the rounded bouts wich looks so damn classic

    Nice review, thanks.
    I just received mine, and I love it. Great finish, no fret sprout and the pickups sound great.
    Your guitar looks brighter than mine; I got the burgundy red and it's almost black. No complaints though, love it.
    On the downside, the intonation was off on all 3 small strings and I had to adjust the truss rod a bit to reduce fret buzz - but that's stuff you commonly need to do on brand name guitars as well.
    Unfortunately there is some bridge buzz when playing the open A string. Not sure what I need to do, file it or replace it?
    The tuners are ok but not amazing.

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před rokem

      Generally with any budget guitar the place they save money out of the gate is on the tuners. If you love the instrument, get a set of Graph Tech tuners for it. They'll level it up.
      Not sure about the bridge buzz. If you're sure it's the bridge and not catching on a fret somewhere, see if you can first apply some pressure with your finger against the saddle while letting the string ring. If that stops it, you might need to shim it slightly just to tighten a little. It doesn't come up often in setups, and I had no issues with this guitar, so I'll have to dig a bit for a solution.
      You can also try seating the string slightly one way or the other. It might just be lined up weird.
      You're correct, there's always some intonation issues with new guitars. Pretty much every one needs a little tweak, especially if it ships.
      Not sure about the colour either. The burgundy is definitely burgundy. If it's almost black, they might have sent the wrong colour!

      Methinks you fart too much. I've had no issues with microphonics on the pickups or any problems at all with a bridge rattle. Presumably people complaining about bridge rattle don't know how to fix it if it comes up, but I didn't experience these issues. I have no problem with a 16" radius either. Glad you like your Earl. @@davidmeinertdecrepidude and yet...
      But seriously, there are two things to point out here: First, I'm not joking when I say it's a near perfect guitar...at least the one I got. I didn't do any setup on it out of the box and it needs no adjustment unless I switch to jazz strings (D'Addario half round 11's are my choice). I've pointed out a few less than stellar things on some of their other instruments, but if you have this and the DST-400 in your collection, you're pretty well rigged for any scenario with a minimum amount of effort.
      The second thing is, I've made it very clear elsewhere and in forums that I don't give bad reviews. There's enough negative energy out on the web already. But this doesn't mean I give everything a good review. It means if it's garbage, you won't see a review from me. I've sent guitars back to them and others on more than one occasion, and Donner at least has always rectified the situation. I'm sure one could dig for a weakness or imperfection here as well, but I haven't seen it (yet...time will tell how it holds up under playing pressure). But realistically, for under $500 CAD, it not only performs as well as similar models at twice the price, but actually improves on them. It's a really, REALLY good guitar.
