      I think you’re mixing religion and culture. It is part of the south Asian culture to do this. It may not be a compulsory part of religion but it is definitely part of the south Asian culture and tradition. Just like it is part of German culture to celebrate Oktoberfest for example, it is part of south Asian culture to celebrate weddings this way.
