This can all be done with the tire in place - just turn wheel for a good position as you take out (and put back) clips and screws. Either way it’s a bit of a pain. Thanks for the excellent video.

No need to jack car or remove tire, just turn wheel outwards of whatever side you’re doing and you will still have enough room.

Thanks so much! You make it look so easy. Why Mazda made this so ridiculously difficult. I will never understand. Why they quit making the Mazda six I certainly don’t know. Thanks a bunch. I’m gonna play every video you made and I have subscribed.

Excellent video. The worst part is Mazda screwed up their wiring/electrical design for their headlights causing the headlights to fail about every 2 to 3 years. What a pain. I like my 2010 Mazda 6 for its engine but the overall quality is not nearly the same as a Toyota or Honda.

    • @fischman26-China

Finished. The trickiest part was putting the bulb in and putting the clip to hold it in place. This is just one reason I will never buy another Mazda.

These cars have different setups for different trim levels. You may be able to access your bulbs from under the hood, or you may not. If you can then you don’t need to do this… obviously.

Yes dude - it is a pain in the butt for something that needs to be replaced every so often. There are so many cars that are out there - certainly an engineer might have said how can I make this unit to simply slide on out as an assembly so the lamps can be changed .. Easy ..
Jack the car up and pull the tire then pull the fender well guard out - yeah we can do that in the same 2 minutes it takes for a Sienna .

Tried doing this myself, the clip keeping the bulb in place flew off, couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea for a DIY solution for it? I'm gonna try to look for a replacement at the junkyard tomorrow, but I'd like to have a backup plan in case i can't find one.

  • @menaj9865

THIS IS NOT THE EASY WAY FOR A 2008!!! Here is the easy way: Pop your hood. behind each set of headlights you will see a black/dark grey cap (facing verticle) that is about the size of your palm(or your hand if your hands are small.) Squeeze your hand behind the cap and twist counter clockwise. it should pop off pretty easily. Once off you can access your bulb. You will have to push down and then slightly left on the little metal spring (looks like a square-ish flag), lift the spring and pull the bulb socket out of the little hole. Once it is out, remove the actual bulb by pushing down on the clip at the very bottom of the socket and pulling the bulb out.
You simply put a new bulb in its place but DO NOT TOUCH THE NEW BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!!! Return the new bulb and socket into the hole, may require a litte wiggling, or adjusting to get it into the right position. then push the spring down and then right to secure it. put cap back on- it does say "top" so you know how it is supposed go,) then twist cap clockwise to lock into place.

Granted it's still quite fiddly given limited visibility but it doesn't require you to take off a wheel or the front bumper to get to the light.

Here's my issue though.....how do you make the beams straight? When I change the bulbs, they have to be in the right position in order to clip them down, but after I do that, the beams are going in different directions. Am I missing something?

@Good house I’m thinking they may be different for differently trim levels or something because I just looked again and there’s no access from under the hood at all. I called Mazda and gave the vin they said it can’t be serviced from under the hood. Also maybe different models for different countries. They couldn’t tell me why some people are commenting otherwise hahaha.

    • @The-Merchandise
      @The-Merchandise Před 10 měsíci

I’ve got the exact same Mazda6 as you (same
Year) and you can’t get access to that headlamp cover from the engine compartment unless you have the tiniest hands and know how to contort your limbs temporarily. I’ve always done it with removing the wheel with your method. Only problem is the clip mechanism broke on my last change years ago and I just sort of hail Mary’d it for a few years until I had a front end collision recently. I’m trying to keep the car as salvage but have to replace the passenger head light to hopefully pass the sheriff’s safety check to get it back on the road I bought some kind of after market projection replacement kit for the car that looks like it had its own clip setup so I’m hoping to swap it. I bought my car brand new from factory in 2009 and this car has always had the absolutely worst headlight projection of any car. It’s a design/safety flaw. I’ve had them repointed and the still suck. You have to drive with the high beams on to see almost as good as modern vehicles do with their low beams on. I really think I Mazda should have recalled our year/style and provided better lighting

There is nothing easy about this. I did it once and now I pay someone to do it. Plus the stupid light burns out at least every other year if not more. I will NEVER buy another car that requires you to take off the wheel and trim to access a headlight. Worst design ever.
