    I used to work in Greggs and all bakes/items come in frozen and we'd just cook them in batches when we'd need them! These Iceland Greggs bakes aren't dupes, they're actually supplied from Greggs directly! I used to often survive off the sausage and bean ones through Uni 🤣

      I worked for m&s and the supermarket pastries are a different but similar recipe than the ones in store even though both are supplied frozen. It's due to different legislation for supermarket products Vs from bakery. I feel like Gregg's could do a similar thing with greggs

    I can imagine a lot of food is the same or similar, but the cooking methods are different. At restaurants a lot of things are deep fried and covered in salt and msg which makes them delicious 😋

  • @etownss

    The reason the fries taste different is that they are fried at the restaurant and you cooked them in the oven at home..

    As a Greggs Employee I can confirm all the products come out of the the same supply site/bakery. Kinda looks like your local branch weren't baking those pasties correctly, we have to rest the pasties before baking at a cetain temperature, seemed like they may have baked them at the wrong temp or not rested them before baking seeing as your chicken bake was raw on bottom x

    Greggs uses Combi ovens with steam, cooks faster, higher temp and doesn't dry out the pastry. What airfryers and a home oven can't do, add extra moisture. When you are use to cooking with steam combi home tabletop oven.

      South African living in UK here😊
      It's just their word for a chicken pie. They're not very nice and I don't know why they don't just call them pies. I think maybe it's a marketing thing. Because pies here are quite cheap things but if you call it a chicken "bake" you can charge more for it and people will think it's a bit fancy.

    • @hannahk1306
      @hannahk1306 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@rebekahjoytaylor8002 A bake (sometimes called a slice) is a different shape to a pie - places like Greggs sell bakes/slices because they're easier to eat on the go. Pies also have more filling, due to the difference in taste, but that does make them harder to eat with your hands without making a mess.
      You also get pasties which are similar, but a different shape again and are made with shortcrust pastry.

    It's rare that frozen supermarket foods are as good as or better than restaurant versions. I DO like some of the Trader Joe's frozen foods, but they aren't duping restaurants. However, I find I prefer to cook foods on my own rather than buy supermarket frozen meals anymore. Frozen pizzas run the gamut, but I think the best one is Red Baron or DeGiorno ... rising crust. You do have to cook them in a very hot oven with a pizza stone or directly on the oven rack to get the best results.

    I am laughing that you call it "TGI's". The TGI is tiny on the sign. Here, we shorten it to Fridays, not TGI's

      Particularly because the TGI stands for Thank God It's. So Grace is up there saying "thank got it's" over and over and over. It tickled me

      I don’t eat meat so haven’t tried many of these options. But the Greggs vegan sausage rolls are actually better cooked at home imo
