  • This week's review is about Netflix' s new historical series: Rise of Empires: Ottoman.
(My review with spoilers start 10:19)
I just wanted to make a review of this documentary drama because I have seen mix reviews about the show from Turkish people mostly. There are also show non-Turkish English speaker critics, too. But I thought It might be interesting to hear from a Turkish person who studied the topic so many years and what I think about it.
I just wanted to add my opinion as a big history lover. I am no expert on this topic and I tried to make my review objective as possible with my own knowledge.
If you like history and curious about new stories you don't know about it, you'll like this show.
Here is my review, I hope you enjoy it.

You are absolutely correct about Mehmet II not harming Constantine XI's ambassadors. My mother who I watched it with reacted to it. So I looked it up. Netflix made it up. According to Prof Michael Angold of Edinburgh uni. he was incensed by Constantine's threats of using his uncle Orhan against him and demanding double of the revenues already being paid, but he told the ambassadors he was willing to discuss the matter when he was back at Edirne. He didn't discuss the matter with them though at Edirne. Instead he ordered stopping all the money for Orhan and the building of Rumeli Hisar fort on the European side of the Bosphorus. Then he sent the ambassadors home. After the fort was built a Venetian ship in 1452 coming from the Black Sea tried to break through, was sunk by the fort cannons, crew and captain who made it to shore captured, put on display in Demotika, the crew executed and the captain impaled. That was the message to Constantine that Mehmet ll was gonna attack Constantinople itself. Btw the harem keepers would be called eunuchs in English
