Lingyi will never be able to win an argument with Shiyi if he doesn't investigate thoroughly before making accusations. I believe this is his 3rd time making assumptions about her. I love how fierce Shiyi is especially when she's defending herself. She pretty much told Lianfang to stay in her lane...lol She warns her that if she continues to come after her that she will lose. Lianfang is too stupid to understand that she was being warned. Her stupidity is the reason she can never win against Shiyi.
Well....at least there's one person in the inner courtyard where he can try to pick an argument with - despite being left speechless all 3x.

Loved that scene. Shiyi did nothing wrong and stands up for herself. Her husband must not be used to people speaking their mind, so he got mad.
He isn't use to people challenging his authority. All the other women in his harem are too busy trying to gain favor that they accept whatever he dishes out. Shiyi is a different breed of woman because she doesn't care about his favor/she doesn't want to use his status. He doesn't know how to handle things with her.
I think it is because he still thinks she is like the sister and his other wives scheming and conniving. His wives are used to pressuring him and be cunning but Shi Y isn't like that, she speaks her mind. So his perception of her is clouded by a preconceived judgement of mostly his late wife, this is why he was upset.
But at the same time, the comment about her sharp tongue is actually a compliment because he wanted her to stand up for herself instead of resorting to tactics. This is because he knows she is actually smart unlike the other ladies.
But at the same time it, he is so bothered about her from day one, there were sparks or attraction already even for Shi Yi. In a modern rom-com from misunderstanding to learning to like the other person.
He never speaks about other women, remember how he asked his dept general about some girl but actually he got her credentials wrong. Basically he took notice of Shi Yi which is something he never has done with other girls even his wives.
