The last great decade for baseball, especially for a kid. TWIB, The Baseball Bunch, Saturday game of the week, collecting baseball cards before they came out with 100s of different brands. All teams still had a fair chance of winning, even the small markets.
Also at the end of This week in baseball, they showed the best plays of the year , which to me impressed me very much . Now it turned into a business more then a tradition. Glad I seen a lot of good players back then .
6 sets of chills and a few teary eyed moments of joy. Thank you for that! It was great to be a baseball fan in the 80's! I'm 44 now and some of these guys are still larger than life! RIP Mel Allen. Thank you for the memories!

Ray Gordon Teaches Chess biggest thing ive noticed about trying to hit 85mph plus balls at least out of machines is that you cant wait to swing when the ball is right up on you, you have to start your swing almost right after the ball leaves the machine
The music, "Gathering Crowds," was composed by renowned film & Television composer John Scott. Mr. Scott also performed with The Beatles on "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and arranged and conducted most of the recordings for The Hollies, among many others.

Man, this video makes me feel 100 years old.😅 Such great memories as a kid looking forward to these episodes every weekend. I was one of those kids who would memorize all the lineups from the newspaper, and then could not wait for ywib with the stories and highlights.
I'll never take away from the things that made for a person's childhood era. I'm sure they meant a lot to you all. We were all raised in a different time in history and certain things, I'm sure, you enjoyed tremendously. Well, for this 47 year old, T.W.I.B. was one of those pieces that shaped my childhood. Desiring so bad to do a backflip like Ozzie Smith or throwing someone out at second trying to steal a base. Well, the backflip never materialized, but just the desire that burned in my heart because of T.W.I.B. was good enough for me. The music did it along with the voice of Mel Allen. My older brother taught me how to catch, throw and hit. And he used to throw heaters at me to not be afraid of the ball. I never liked that part. Well, it worked. When I faced 11 year old kids on Saturday afternoons, their pitches weren't so frightening. Blessings to all the little leaguers at Mt Carmel Park in South Central Los Angeles on 70th and Hoover St. in the 1980's. Along with the park director Robert Jones who also refereed our flag football games in the fall. He may have gone home to be with the Lord by now, but I pray the rest of you are doing well wherever you may be. God bless.
My God!!! I remember all these highlights from watching as a kid in the 80’s. I loved TWIB and the song is so Epic!! This is why 70’s and 80’s baseball was not just great but a great time to be a kid!
What a fantastic video, gives me chills! Along with the TWIB theme, poetic. I named almost every player that was in every scene. Thanx 2 whoever posted this, off VHS obviously. B4 internet I found out what was going on in BB by watching Mel Allen (Legend) on Saturday mornings, thrilled me 2 pieces!
For those that indeed have the right to dislike this amazing video, seriously they don't embrace the flowery of not only baseball but life in general. God it's such a great game.
What a great montage, brings back great memories of the 80s before ESPN, so much emotion and excitement and so many great players, some who have sadly passed away, who played for the fun of the game, thank you all for the great memories and RIP Mel Allen "How About That".
This was back when the only time you got to see all of the stars play was on this show and the all-star game. Who you watched on TV depended on where you lived. I lived in North Carolina so it was my Atlanta Braves. As an 8 year old you couldn't tell me that Dale Murphy wasn't the greatest baseball player that ever lived. I suffered long with the Braves in the 80's lol...but it wasn't suffering for me. I loved it!!! Murphy is still my favorite athlete of all time!!
RIP Mel. I miss the how bout its. Shoot I miss playing ball, but I have some great old pictures and trophies. This theme made me cry tears of joy. I would watch TWIB on Saturday afternoons. They had a big league star give a lesson on some shows. It was the best highlight show ever long before ESPN. Still better than most and I loved Mel Allen who didn't love Mel
Amazing memories - watching these 30 minutes in days before VCRs and streaming has a certain....romance to it as we watch our heroes play. An era never forgotten!
The era of Reggie & Winfield, Garvey & Ron Cey, Palmer & Eddie Murray, Rose & Schmidt, George Brett & Frank White, Strawberry, Gooden, Carter, Mookie, Dykstra, Darling, Orozco, Whitey Herzog managing Clark, Herr, Andujar, McGee, Sparky Anderson managing Tramell, Whitaker, Kirk, Jack Morris, Billy Martin managing the Yanks 5x, Puckett & Hrbek, McGwire before anabolic steroids & Canseco...need I say more?
In no particular order or relevance- The Big Red Machine; the South Side Hitmen; Harvey's Wallbangers with Yount, Molitor, Cooper, Stormin' Gorman; Winnin' Ugly with Luzinski, Kittle, Baines, Fisk, Dotson and Hoyt; Earl Weaver; Ripken; Murphy; Horner; Sutter; Sutcliffe, Sandberg, Matthews and Smith with the 1984 Cubs in the Friendly Confines; Carew; Gossage; Dempsey; Sutton; Valenzuela; Buckner; Rice; man, so many names one could make (and you can tell my pro-Chicago bias. LOL)
@@ohbrother8530 yeah when Nolan Ryan joined the Astros and the rotation with JR Richard ... would have been a fantastic "1-2" ... both Strikeout kings ... unfortunately, JR had an aneurysm and never played again.
Ryan was a lifetime .500 pitcher who had many great nights. Also, the way they clock pitches today Ryan would have been something like 106-108. They measure it much closer to the pitcher these days.
OMG!! WOW!!! I'm at a loss over this......This musical theme was my life for so long! The film clips are fabulous set to this. Man, tears are shed watching and listening to this.......Thank you so much for not letting this song be lost forever!!!!! THANK YOU( with fresh tears shed)! I watched this and listen to this 10 times straight after finding this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have it bookmarked till I die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Life or at least a big part spent in innocent days!!!!!!!!!!
it brought tears to my eyes as a very young person who saw these events unfold.Watching fernando pitch mike scott throw a no hitter gerald henderson hit that winning home run against the angels in the play offs.
Anytime I get a little down I watch this video. Man it brings me back. These were my hero's. As the video plays I just name off the names. It does make you tear up.
Wow I forgot all about this song. I used to love watching TWIB with Mel Allen the best baseball highlights show ever. Unfortunately they don’t make anything like this nowadays. As a kid I played tee ball then baseball would hear this song as I imagined myself hitting a solo motion homerun or making an acrobatic catch. This really does give me goosebumps and transports me back in time 35 years wow where did the time go? Baseball ⚾️ was so great back then, I knew most of the players, collected baseball cards, attended MLB games with my parents and siblings. I don’t know what happened but i barely ever watch baseball now more into college football and basketball, and the NFL and NBA. Kind of sad kids of today have no idea how awesome baseball used to be. Thanks for posting this.
The nostalgia! The feels! Every time a different player appears my mind shouts out their. name. Utterly fantastic. Whoever you are. Wherever you are. Thank you for uploading this.
Watched this with my Dad who is long gone now 😪back in a time when it was tougher to get in-depth baseball information before internet. Best baseball show in history and definitely best and most uplifting sports related music - great opening tune as well!
Brought back memories of Saturday afternoons. The Tigers were rarely on the game of the week back then though. When Jack Morris got his no no was one of the rare occasions. That clip was very Dodger heavy BTW!
I know it may seem like that, but of the 100 clips, only 6 are Dodgers. I think because I made it (inadvertently) Dodger heavy toward the end, it came off that way. I'm actually an Angels fan, which explains their 11 clips (not purposely, tho I'm sure some wdnt believe that). Yanx and Mets actually had more (7) with the Red Sox tied with LA at 6. Thx for commenting!
Darryl Jennings As a Dodger fan... nothing wrong with that...LOLOL but, I thought it was heavily Yankee's and KC Royals seriously I loved TWIB with Mel Allen!!!! OMG. that was when Baseball and america's pastime! Now the NFL with it's corruption is heading in the same direction as MLB. So sad and put Houston back in the NL and Milwaukee in the American... WTF!!!!
Darryl Jennings I remember watching baseball games on Saturday afternoons too.The Tigers would be shown more on Channel 4, which was the NBC affiliate, to see the Game of The Week, we would watch Channel 13 from Toledo, OH.Around late 83 the Tigers were starting to be shown on Game Of The Week.
When I would play catch with my best friend, Tom, in the early eighties we would end with about 15 mins of ‘amazing catches’. We would purposely throw the ball long or short to create opportunities for far reaching grabs, dives, etc. Since that was long before smartphones, I would have TWIB music playing in my head while I would try to recreate what I saw that Saturday morning. Now I play amazing catches with my college aged daughter when she is home from school and I play this music in the background on my phone. Never grow up!
This was like a shot of dopamine!! This show made me start to love baseball and I have never looked back! 45 years watching and at 53 baseball has given me more in life than I had ever expected!👍
Now, this was my era of being a huge fan of 'Major League Baseball'[MLB]! These players may have faded from the sport, itself, but they are forever in my pantheon of "Baseball Gods".
Growing up in the inner city of Cleveland oh in the early 80s, the city didn’t have a little league program but this tv special gave me hope every Saturday that one day I could play the game I love so much.
Lord, take me back to the good ole days; no PEDs (only uppers), massive salaries, attitudes, and social media, only ugly uniforms. God what I would give to go back just for a day.😢
Not all of the uniforms were ugly. Some pine for the Astros to bring back the "Rainbow Guts," whereas the Phillies still wear the "Powder Blues" road uniforms for home games from time to time.
Especially with the Phillies. They wear their "Powder Blues" for certain day games now. Truthfully, they should dump the 1948 throwback "day" uniform and use the 1971-1991 uniforms for both home and away day games. It was in those uniforms they went to two World Series (1980 & 1983), winning one (1980), with Mike Schmidt hitting HR #500 in the blue uniform, along with keeping their current "Whiz Kids"-based ones, in which they went to two more (2008 & 2009), winning one (2008), with Roy Halladay pitching his Perfect Game against the Florida/Miami Marlins wearing the road greys (much like Jim Bunning doing the same against the N.Y. Mets at Shea Stadium, only with the older version). Thankfully MLB doesn't have that stupid "one helmet" rule like the NFL has, otherwise, the Philadelphia Eagles could use both of their current uniforms as well as the throwback kelly greens (most likely the 1960 uniforms, as that was the year they won their last pre-Super Bowl NFL Championship), along with other teams that made radical changes to their uniforms over the years.
Wow, Mike Schmidt's swing on his 500th HR 0:43 is absolutely picture perfect. Head down, eyes on the ball, level swing, arms fully extended, full hip rotation, drives with his legs. Perfect.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS ! 70’s &. 80’‘s, I played centerfield in elementary school ! Use to watch every baseball I could find on tv ! Use to listen The Sox and Cubs on the radio !
dave21286 yea nbc college basketball had a nice theme too, they had you fired up and ready to play but that this week in baseball was the mustard on the hot dog...
Living in Windsor, Ontario, just across the border from Detroit, I fell in love with baseball growing up in the 80's. My dad is now and always has been a diehard Tiger's fan and those were magical years watching that 1984 team come together. Watching this video and remembering the classic uniforms on teams like the Padres, Phillies, Astros etc really brings me back. It was fun because not every player played the same, pitchers had different deliveries and batters had different stances. The game has become to standardized and that's boring by comparison.
What an AWESOME video. If I could like this a thousand times I would. Reminds me of my youth. But that tune never gets old. It's timeless. Thanks for posting.
so awesome. thanks for the trip down childhood memory lane. as i get on in middle age, i increasingly find myself searching for the good things in my past to remind me of the innocent days of my youth.
Kirk Gibson, Orel “The Bulldog”, Tommy, Fernandomania earlier in the decade. So many great memories with Vin Scully behind the mic and TWIB highlights with Mel Allen. Great memories. Go Dodgers!
Missing some players: Ryne Sandberg Carl Yastrzemski Carlton Fisk Alan Trammell Robin Yount Paul Molitor Rollie Fingers Rod Carew Tom Seaver Steve Carlton Don Sutton Jim Palmer Hal McRae Greg Luzinski Pedro Guerrero Bob Welch Vince Coleman Dave Parker And many others. What a decade!
The greatest decade of baseball. When players could hit the catcher or charge the mound. Or when the fans could still come onto the field to celebrate.
I know I'm 56, used to love watching this on Saturday afternoon, then going out and playing wiffle ball for hours, in Boston area we would always know the sox game was over on channel 38, if MASH was on .
bring back those days... when one could afford a game, respect the players (most were approachable), pay a modest price for some suds, and hear Mel Allen's voice! "How about that?"
$1.50 general admission at Shea for the Mets...raised to $4.00 in 1981 to pay for DiamondVision. Season tickets: $475.00 (1981), $550.00 (1982), the latter 85 feet from home plate tat I sold in May, 1982 after my love life took off and I had no need to attend sporting events much (still went to a few).
Memories. Reminds me when i was a kid and watched every Saturday morning.
I lived for this show on Saturday morning. It was like the ESPN recap of all the games before ESPN was ESPN. Mel Allen was great.

"That's all for this week folks, see you next week, on this week in baseball"-Mel Allen.
EVERY...SINGLE...HIGHLIGHT REEL needs to have this music.
Wow, Mike Schmidt's swing on his 500th HR 0:43 is absolutely picture perfect. Head down, eyes on the ball, level swing, arms fully extended, full hip rotation, drives with his legs. Perfect.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS !
70’s &. 80’‘s,
I played centerfield in elementary school !
Use to watch every baseball I could find on tv ! Use to listen The Sox and Cubs on the radio !
I used to watch TWIB and view the TWIB notes before the Saturday Mets games on WWOR-9 New York!!
WOW, I loved it, talk about some good memories. Back when baseball was fun !!!
George Brett running towards the umpire, who can forget that…
That was the "pine tar" incident. Instead of a HR, Brett was OUT!
They have the entire "Pine Tar Game" on CZcams.
still can’t help but wonder what would have happened had that 1st ump whiffed on trying to stop Brett😂😂
Wow, the nostalgia really hits, baseball was life for me in the 90s 😅

Best sport theme song hands down!
+Frank Elyar Growing up watching TWIB, I assumed this must have been some classical piece. To think it was composed by a member of Manfred Mann!
+Xavier Abyss He borrowed HEAVILY from JS Bach for it tho : )
MEL ALLEN ONE OF THE BEST ALL TIME BASEBALL ANNOUNCERS.
The Wimbledon themes (opening and closing) and NBC's college basketball game of the week theme were also great
dave21286 yea nbc college basketball had a nice theme too, they had you fired up and ready to play but that this week in baseball was the mustard on the hot dog...
I named almost ever player. Omg... What a fantastic childhood I had eith 1980s baseball...even as a Red Sox fan
Great music and highlights...takes me back. Was so fun to watch baseball in the 1980s
Big Dodger fan Fernando was my hero.
Mine too. Long live El Toro!
I think I'm gonna cry…...
Awwww, I grew up with this theme song... It brings back so many baseball memories
Love Mel’s voice. 80s baseball as a kid was fantastic. This music is pure nostalgia
Remember watching this every Saturday before the game of the week
Back then baseball player on average made about 700000 grand. Now about 15 mil on average. Those guys really played
Yea, so 700,000 grand is 7,000,000,000
In the mid-70s they made even less. They deserve the money because they enrich the lives of many important people.
Kirk Gibson, Orel “The Bulldog”, Tommy, Fernandomania earlier in the decade. So many great memories with Vin Scully behind the mic and TWIB highlights with Mel Allen. Great memories. Go Dodgers!
Christ what a great time. When Baseball was Baseball.

Oh the memories of my youth! RIP Bill Buckner.
Tears to eyes. And my heart smiles! ⚾️
The clip with the Montreal Expos is great…. What history…. It’s a shame they are gone now.
Lots of great memories! And the good old days when the crowd got to storm the field at the end of a championship game!
My little league team wore the old Astros uniforms.. memories
Yeap the kids of today don’t know how good we had it. I miss my youth
This is beautiful! brings me back ... this is pure joy......
Baseball was so fucking amazing back when I was a kid
I HAVE GREAT MEMORIES WATCHING THIS WEEK IN BASEBALL WITH MY DAD. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.
Loved watching this show and hearing Mel Allen narrate it memories!! thanks for sharing
Every Saturday, I dreamed it was me out there.
Ill never in my life forget that bare handed catch by Kevin Mitchell at 2:26, i remember when it happened just being amazed
Brings me right back to Saturday afternoons in the 80’s, after playing a little league game that morning
bring back those days... when one could afford a game, respect the players (most were approachable), pay a modest price for some suds, and hear Mel Allen's voice!
Thanks so much for bringing this theme song back! I heard it every week as a child and wondered if I would ever hear it again. Good job!!!
I know I’m about 8 years late to the party, but thanks, I really needed this, more than you could know.
TWIB Notes!!!!! Man I miss these days. Couldn’t wait for this and the Baseball Bunch!!!
