    This was a very informative podcast. The conversation between Leighton and the guests; Andie & Maggie had me understanding more about my garden's soil health or lack thereof. I am already looking forward to the return of these guests.

    Thank you from aspiring veggie gardener and momma in rural southern utah. It's been over 110 f where I work in st george utah. It's tough here. I've been gathering bagged leaves for last 2 autumn's for compost making. Almost no money to invest, and it's been hard to stay positive. But thinking about soil health each night and during the day listening to podcasts have.helped me to manage high stress levels from financial stress and other stressors. Thanks for your input. Women in science rock. Thanks for having this forum for these discussions to take place.

    The take 50% deal isn't it said that there is just as much below ground biomass of plants as above?

    • @itsallaboutthebiology
      @itsallaboutthebiology  Před měsícem +1

      That can be very true, yet not always, part of the biomass below the ground is to gather more nutrients, and we are starting to see that depending on how healthy a plant is in the root zone, and how easy it is for the plant to gain all the components that it needs, that it does not always need that much mass in the root zone. The more biology there is the less mass the plant needs as it is able to draw more components with less roots.
      Which means that it can put on more mass above ground for a crop that you want.
      I hope that helps explain it a bit better. :))

      We are learning more and more each day about how the system works, a lot of what we thought was right is changing as we come to deeper understandings of how the system works. :))
