There is no replacement in a modern world… absolutely forever classic. Just goosebumps
Got to give the Drummer Charlie Crosby some. He makes It look easy, but he’s smokin.
Yep. Super relaxed, perfect time, and cookin.
Yeah and multi tasking providing depth utilizing the full amount of what he can provide the tambourine and keep them brushes simmering on never missing a lick of time he is laying out the red carpet for everyone to get wide open when soloing and never rushed nor fallow that is worth his weight in. Gold
Literally. It makes the difference between an
Adequate or totally money sound is your rhythm machine
He would most likely be the guy mixing the mortar if y'all were laying block on a job the mix has got to be consistent it is the life blood
I was thinking the same thing!!!! So good and los relaxed.
❤
Maravilloso maestro
The director is also a virtuoso of filming.
His cameras are always well placed. He must have been a jazz lover

Hey, man! Thanks!
thank you 😍
Cool
Also appreciate the set list-thank you!
I used to sit in w/ Jimmy often, & I can certainly take that memory w/ me. One of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century.
Man, that must have been incredible!
@@christianprior1516 Ha ha, it was! & Don Ellis & John B Wms & Louie Bellson & Art Pepper, etc. If u lived here, u ran into all of them.
A pianist friend was on a transatlantic flight, going to a festival, plane was full of cats. Jimmy Smith sat next to my friend, who was in his 20s at the time. Jimmy said "You young guys like that new fusion music... HUH... I call it CONfusion!"
@@nicklloyd9165 Lou Donaldson used to say the same... 'No fusion, no CON-fusion'... just straight ahead jazz!'
Eddie McFadden, such a thoughtful and lyrical player. And look at how high he's got that guitar strapped on, right under his chin. That's badass.
He’s playing beautifully, singing on the guitar. Jimmy Smith is not the easiest accompanist for a guitarist to solo to, sometimes calling dozens of changes as if he’s playing alone. Eddie does a fine job anticipating him.
They r so generous with each other
The duets are particularly integrated as to be another level
They r so together it’s organic
Thank on Jimmy’s birthday 2023
Eddie McFadden develops his solos very well--swinging, syncopated phrases with lots of space, followed by
flowingeighth notes. It's very musical and fun to listen to. Charlie Crosby swings hard, and Jimmy Smith
was a groovin' virtuoso. I really miss hearing music of this nature in clubs.
Eddie McFadden, Thornel Schwartz, Quentin Warren, Jimmy Ponder and Wally Richardson are a bunch of incredible jazz guitarists that few people have heard of. Groovy, slick and funky.
You forgot Clint Strong.
Eddie McFadden’s “intricately/intimately joined” guitar playing with the best B-3 grinder! Incredible concert in Paris (and not in Texas). Just fabulous high-octane jazz by Jimmy and his men, folks. Dig the beat, G’day & Cheers!
I wonder what happened in Texas, want to guess that's the "Concert" Jon Lord mentioned on a interview for Blind Date in April of 1970.
@@aldoali6173 That I wouldn’t know Aldo. The only thing i ever saw about Paris in Texas was the road movie (Paris/Texas from1985) with Harry Dean Stanton, Natassja Kinski and Sam Shepherd. It eventually became cult classic! But here we have Jimmy flying higher than a kite, mesmerising the French crowd. Be well, G’day & a swingin’n Cheers!
Cheers!
He really knew how to make that instrument sing and give love to the whole world ❤️❤️
Never thought I'd ever enjoy such an extended seeing and hearing of Eddie McFadden playing. Thanks for this gift, Don.
I like Eddie McFadden's style. His soloing is very fluid and lyrical. Quite a discovery!
agreed
II think he lacks some clarity and authority . ....with a real , solid, well built melodic story you can hear with Wes Montgomery or Kenny Burrell ......that's why he stood as a second hand player even as a good one .
@@jean-lucbersou758 it's like he's cutting off his own neck with it almost strangling himself
I like his playing and his sound too.
Agreed
So glad someone uploaded this performance.
Great drummer who is showing how it is done. The guy is phenomenal and so is Jimmy Smith! Good guitar player too.
This is my first time hearing Eddie Mcfadden and i've been playing Jazz guitar for 10 years. I like him.
As we say, smokin.' Great guitar work, and Smith's basslines are unreal...Bach would be digging this.
This was so good!!! On the top of his game. Such a force of nature.
i've been watching or listening to this amazing performance frequently for a few years now , never gets boring ! 10/10
Man, Eddie Mcfadden was a great guitar player!
That got me woke up this morning , strong cup of coffee and jimmy smith with Eddie McFadden on guitar up high in the ear buds thanks you tube.. PS brilliant take on days of wine and roses
Jimmy Smith created playing jazz on the Hammond organ, back in the 50s and 60s. He created a new genre of of organ music.
The inside look of genius artistry

Really incredible Jimmy Smith 👍🏻😵💫
Jimmy Smith is still the greatest organist in the world 🎹
This is the jam keep posting
Real cool!
HELLO FROM HOLLYWOOD JOE
Mastery at it's best . Jimmy Smith and his music was a great influence in my music appreciation.
Thanks for god this ky jazz
Great document! Short before Jimmy Smith had changed his sound by turning off Vibrato C(horus)3 of the Hammond for the rest of his life.
I think one of the reasons was in the early recordings Leslies only had a single speed and stop (22 models and including tallboys)). Around 66 67 Leslies began to be fitted with slow motors.
I love Charles Crosby
Quelques années avant, j'avais été le voir à l'Olympia
This is amazing, incredible... even with the sound off.
Seriously... how?
Jimmy Smith The Great Grandmaster of The Hammond Organ!!!!
Legal som da hora bom
Oh wow this is the first time I've ever seen Jimmy open up the Leslie and I have been listening to Jimmy since I was a young boy literally I've always wondered why he didn't and I lhave checked he never opened the Leslie until this cut yo
How elegant this musicians were. Playing tight, simple, funky rhythms. Nowadays…

Крутой мужик!
Да, а кого вы имеете ввиду? Просто здесь,я думаю все крутые
one of his kind....
Very 60's.
No Bass player so Jimmy playing Bass with pedals...☮️🔥
With the left hand and some time pedals.
Look @the video: the awesome Jimmy Smith use to play overtime pedals also in a very fuckin' good&fast way!
@Gary Schaeffer Well - that would depend on what track & tempo he as playing at.. fast tunes he would mostly toe tap (on b pedal plus passing notes on corresponding pedals when playing through changes or a turnaround) but for slower and blues tunes he would often play most of the bassline on pedals - especially when playing double handed chords..watched him up close quite often...including 5 nights straight when he played my C3 back in 94!
no, he is playing bass with left hand on fast numbers, and taping his pedals
@@grantkoeller8911 Cool
Let's give some also to the guy with the camera!
On first tune they are getting faster and faster. they start off at 124 half note =
248 BPM
then they get to half note 140,=
280 BPM
then 144 1/2 note=
288 BPM
43:57 that guitar lick
Jimmy Smith still a master musician at this point, the decay in (taste?) had not set in yet. One of he most important organists in Jazz, along with Larry Young.
38:43 COME ON NOWWW!!!!!!
Meravigliosi
14:00 not sure what that tune is, but Jimmy Smith clearly had master the art of transitions between tunes -- just like somebody who played organ in a church would have. Total mastery. And guess what, next tune is "The Sermon" :)
Jimmy Smith = Hammond Organ !
Does anyone know the melody jimmy is playing at 14:02 ind the video? Seems to be a citing.
Smith's independence is impressive but his right hand is saying a lot.
I did not know about early Leslie’s only having fast and stop. Interesting….l’d heard Wild Bill Davis and his great big chord fast and stop playing. In this performance l had never heard Jimmy playing with this much Leslie fast and slow ( in some numbers ) before.
tasty tasty tasty yea man
Who was looking around for a bass player , watch Jimmy's right hand . Sounds just like an upright bass player on that first song.
jimmys left hand is playing the bass lines
Absolutely amazing performance. Such incredible talent. Talent like that doesn't exist today--- at least not in the mainstream. Anybody know what guitar that is that Jimmy is playing?
looks like a Guild single cutaway with P-90 pickup
@@grantkoeller8911 Thanks!

Its almost unbelieveable that only 3 instruments were used, but the depth &totality of their masterful performance is otherworldly.
"Guys this temporary stage is held together with carpet tacks! DON'T MOVE TOO MUCH!"
Great show. McFadden is under-rated.
4:14!! :)
Did this trio ever record anything in the studio?
:)
I cannot see his Leslie hand controls. Is he using a knee or foot control? Also what are those two mains transformer type things next to the foot swell? at 37.06

blues in Concert F
What is the time signature on the first song?
shows him playing the pedals, then shows his left hand really playing the real bass lines, so his foot was just tapping the pedals.....
my god is he playing bass on the foot pedals?
On the ballads, yes. On everything else he taps a couple pedals in the same area and plays the bass line with his left hand.

Smith plays the bass with his left hand and taps the pedals with his foot in rhythm to add a percussive accent. If you want to see a jazz organist who really plays bass on the pedals check out Rhoda Scott. Not that Jimmy isn't great, just not for pedal work.
Why you think all the real groovers in Jazz-organ history like my great friend, mentor and teacher Jazz-organ pioneer Wild Bill Davis and his followers Jimmy Smith, Big John Patton, Don Patterson, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Gloria Coleman, widely unknown Winston Walls, Larry Young, Mel Rhyne...... played left hand bass and tapped pedals to add percussive accents = Wild Bill Davis school? Bass pedals only for Ballads or 3/4 tunes. Doin´ my thing at the Hammond console since more than 40 years now. Never heard one really hard groovin´ and swingin´ who plays dry Hammond B3/C3/A100....bass pedals on medium and up tempos. Some add pedal sustain. The result is just a strange and corny "doom-doom-doom" sound - like a poor imitation of an upright or electric bass player.
I can play full pedal bass on medium tempos and I'm an amateur. It sounds awesome because it frees up your left hand to comp and you have 3 parts going at once and sounds like a full ensemble when you're 1 person! There are a few clips on youtube of guys killing it with only pedal bass such as. czcams.com/video/lT2yeRlhCGQ/video.html
@@clintjones9848 Barbara Dennerlein can dance on the pedals, for one.
"whats happenin" hep cats ? !
..Have u ever hear these on weed...🕶🙂
I wonder why Jimmy never opened up the Leslie. To the fast setting I mean I dig the way he prefers. Riffing in the slow rotary speed but it is like. Pulling the top off the pressure valve and the steam out.
Smash that Leslie and let the pressure cooker
A bunch of jibberish.
...hammond b3 master... holy fuck this is good...
