    I'm really glad I got all the expansions when they came out. This was literally my first ever board game that I myself bought and owned. I still haven't found another game quiet like this. It has so much content for being in such a small box. I just don't get why they stopped making expansions. I was surprised when I realized my unbreakable bonds is like now a 300 plus dollar expansion now.

    I love this video and the how you relish in Runebound and the analysis you bring. I am a fan of both 2nd and 3rd editions, but will probably only keep this edition because I love the feel of it. I love that you (if you have all of the expansions) can mix together 3 different market decks and 6 different skill decks to create a different game from before.
    I look forward for more of why we love it videos.

    Love it! Very 'Tales by the Fireside' which is a much needed organic approach to reviewing a (thematic) game than most mechanical/analytical others. Subscribed!

    This video was very, very, very well done. Thank you so much for making it!
    I discovered my copy a month ago at Half-Priced Books and it included the Unbreakable Bonds expansion, which, I believe, doubled the value for me. With that being said, my wife and I are obsessed with this game and have already played near a dozen times. Even though we only have a handful of scenarios, each playthrough feels unique. You train your hero in new skills you've never seen, or face a foe from the orange deck that you've never faced before. And ITEMS. I'm a goddamn item whore. Buying and equipping a new item in this game gives me a rush akin to buying a new car. I think if you look at replay-ability from the lens of a totally unique experience and not just a new boss, the possibilities are near endless. I will forever cherish this game. I just hope I can find more of its rare expansions to boost my collection.

      That’s a great find! I’m a little jealous. My wife enjoys it but not nearly as much as me so I don’t play that often. I need to try some solo variants. Maybe over the holidays I can do that 🤔

    This was excellently written and delivered. I’ve been looking for a great open world, Skyrim-esque board game world to explore and pulled the trigger on a 2nd hand copy of 3rd edition this week. 2nd edition is just too expensive and expansions doubly so. Excited for it to arrive.

    I've got this game and all expansions. So glad I have this game and one aspect that is often not talked about, how easy is to create your own mods. You can literally make your own adventure very easy.

    Definitely one of my favorites. The combination of exploring, questing and combat is very good. It's definitely odd that only two scenarios came in the box. I think they were planning on many more expansions than were ultimately released, but two is still too few. I was buying the expansions as they came out, but they are now out of print and hard to find. There has been some late-coming interest in this game, hopefully FFG will reprint it and the expansions. Particularly the big box expansion that fine-tuned the combat system with AI cards. People were so used to dice combat, they didn't know what to make of "casting runes." It adds more thought and realism to the combat. I also bought the Realms of Terrinoth RPG source book, not to play the RPG, but for the lore and history to go along with Runebound.

    3rd edition made me collect all of the 2nd edition expansions. I recommend 2nd edition as well. I really like the runes in 3rd edition imho against popular opinion. It gives the game a tangible feel of gearing up that 2nd edition lacks. I just wish they made more expansions and new maps for 3rd edition, it really needs a big box expansion imho.

    For me Runebound was that one game I wanted to play but no one wanted to play it in my 3 different gaming groups. Luckily FFG came out with the coop/solo expansion and it was time for me to jump into the game, I pre-ordered it and bought everything Runebound third edition related.
    I played the game so many times solo and I loved it to the point where I stopped going to gaming groups. It helped me to learn how much more I enjoy playing board games solo rather than playing with others.
    After playing it many times I was left with wanting more Runebound. So I looked at the second edition of the game and I found that there are some great solo fan made variants out there and just my luck some guy on eBay was selling his almost like new collection (the base game and all of the 29 expansions for Runebound second edition) for a very very cheap and affordable price :D though it’s missing most of the original game boxes but it was like new condition sleeved with premium sleeves and came with some extras.
    So yup I own both complete collections for second and third edition of the game, does that says how much I love the game? :D Now I feel like having unlimited replay value for Runebound lol.
    And because of Runebound I got into Descent second edition after I found another solo/coop fan made variant lol. And again from the same seller I bought my second edition collection I made a deal for the complete collection for Descent for another cheap and affordable price. Does this says how much I love the world of Runebound? :D.
    One thing though, looking at those sticker dice is painful, you should order a printed dice set :D, mine is on the way and it was around $30 at the time I made the order. So no longer falling stickers and having to glue them lol.

    • @saveyourgame5578
      @saveyourgame5578  Před 3 lety +1

      Amazing. You’re definitely ahead of me on the collecting front. Some of that expansion stuff is really pricey now.
      How’s 2nd edition now? Still worth getting into?
      I need to look into those dice!!!

    • @zackdreak1870
      @zackdreak1870 Před 3 lety

      Save Your Game Yea and I don’t like how expensive now :( that unbreakable bonds expansion was great, I got it the moment it was announced. It didn’t help me just with Runebound but it’s also helped me to see how I wasn’t enjoying gaming with groups that much anymore because it felt like working more than playing a game with my gaming groups, and how much I enjoyed playing it on my own.
      second edition have a much simpler combat system nothing like the combat tokens in the third edition, not sure if the class decks expansions adds anything new to it? I have not tried those expansions yet.
      For me, yea it was worth it. The expansions for the second edition adds new things to the game like new maps or something new you can mix and match with the crazy amount of expansions it have.
      A warning though, the base game for the second edition is kinda easy to find and on the cheap side and same thing with few small expansions, the problem with the prices of larger expansions and some small expansions as well, people are asking stupid prices for those right now.
      As I said for me it was lucky I found the whole collection around $400 and lucky nobody saw it before me. To be fair though $400 still a lot of $$$ but I sold all of my games at the time since I couldn’t play them solo so I had the $$$ for it. But still $400 for the complete collection is much much cheaper and more affordable than going around buying it expansion by expansion, or the prices people are asking for their complete collections.
      Other than not liking the simple combat is 2nd and I like 3rd edition combat tokens more, I love both editions.
      Another warning, the artwork on the second edition looks really old and some people consider it not that good compared to the artwork on the 3rd edition, for me I love both artworks.
      As for the stickers on the dice for the 3rd edition, well my stickers kept falling off and FFG sent me a replacement stickers and those were better but considering the amount of times I played the game and planning to play it in the future, yup printed dice set seems a good idea. I even got those coin protectors for the tokens, overkill but I love the game and want it to stay with me for a long time.
      This post on BGG someone explain how they got their printed dice and I did the same.
      boardgamegeek.com/thread/1475933/extra-movement-dice
      But before I made the order I contacted the company and they showed me couple samples and just now they shipped my dice set.

      Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Descent is fun but I found it quite difficult solo w/ the app. I tried a few different party configurations and played maybe 10 games and never won one! Maybe it was user error but it didn’t click for me. I’ll probably put some thoughts in a video sometime. Folklore looks cool. I had a copy but never played it so I traded it. You’re welcome. I veered from video games and now really got into board games. This game always had my interest but afraid the base box wouldn’t be enough, therefore I went with Legends of Andor with all the expansion. Is Runbound worth it for just the base box?

      I think it is but then again it’s one of my favorites. Once you get used to it and realize there are only two scenarios it can feel a bit sparse. There are expansions of course but they can be pricey. You can also find some quality fan made scenarios on BGG. Best of luck!

      I think I agree. I’ve played about half of a campaign solo and although I think it’s high quality I’m not sure I love it. The upkeep alone was enough to overwhelm me as a solo player. 🧐
      Seems like the card system is one of the things that grabbed people overall and I agree it’s quite clever. Was just thinking about getting it back out yesterday.
      BUT RB 3rd is a gem. If you can find a copy of Unbreakable Bonds it’s got a fun solo mode. Thanks for the comment!
