i think you’re completely valid in feeling upset. the argument that “it’s just a kids show” is so irritating because it basically insinuates that kids aren’t deserving of good media because, well, they’re kids. kids aren’t stupid and it’s messed up to treat them as such. I’m grateful to have grown up with media like Ever After High, because the show treated its audience with respect and care in its storytelling and it gives us something to look back on fondly when we rewatch these shows as adults.
Ever After High deserved so much better. Like the plot was so interesting and all of the characters were so detailed. Speaking of characters, THE ART STYLE WAS FREAKING STUNNING. I was the same way you were, having seen EAH first and hated descendants when I first watched it. I still have my giant doll collection somewhere in my closet. 😅
It’s so hard to enjoy a movie, show, or book when the protagonist is so poorly written to the point where I’m rooting for the ANTAGONIST😭 I feel like they were trying to take inspiration from how mal was in the first movie like being rebellious, stuck between being good and bad, and her somewhat complicated relationship with her mom but still wanting to make her proud etc. but it was executed very poorly with red and it feels like a cheap knock off of mals character and I’m sure people would disagree with me but this is just how I see it. If this movie came out while I was still in the fandom I’d be upset and disappointed lol overall it was anticlimactic and felt rushed didn’t have the same vibe as the other movies I know this is a spinoff but even with spinoffs they still squeeze in some of the charm that the original had
Plothole questions: Why us Hades a teenager in the movie when he’s an adult during the ancient Greek times in Hercules? Chad’s 26 and in college still? So is Uliana King Triton’s sister too? How come Bridget has an American accent when she’s a teenager and a British accent when she’s older? Why is Maleficent mentioning thorns and sleeping curses before cursing Aurora? She curses her as an adult, not a teenager. How can Fay be Ella’s godmother if she can barely do magic? Why are Jasmine and Aladdin attending high school in a different kingdom together? Jasmine’s supposed to take over and rule her kingdom. Thought it was a bit odd. I’m also confused why there are several kings and queens living in Auradon. Why aren’t they living in their own kingdoms?
One more: why are the original villain group called the vks? The only one that's the kid of a villain is Morgie, the others aren't villain kids, they're just villains.
And Maleficent literally mentioned being close with Evil queen when they were young yet Evil queen wasn't even in D4?? All of this just doesn't make sense anymore.
It looks like the wardrobe budget was $1500. The costume designer must have been high when they came up with these atrocious outfits. Those cheap, crappy wigs are so bad that not even Party City could sell them. I don't know who made them, but they were probably fished out of a dumpster.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that was bothered by the changing parents to be good subplot with Red and Bridget. Instead of trying to prevent the prank, why not have Red bond with her mother in the past and see how she was brought up and how it changed her. Cause the thing is, you can’t force people to change, people need to change themselves Edit: And maybe, Red finally musters the courage to stand up to her mom and mom explains why she’s so controlling to her daughter because of past trauma, because by being overly strict, she thought she was preparing Red to be strong. But Red convinces her that just because she suffered doesn’t mean she gets to make her suffer as well, and that if anyone decides to hurt her. Chloe will be there as her friend

The plot feels very similar to "Ever After High: Dragon Games." I know this franchise gets a lot of criticism for having such a similar concept, but "Ever After High" treats the fairy tale role as an obligation while the "Descendants" franchise treats it more like a choice. "Rise of Red" feels like it's trying to push the two ideas together.
Time travel is VERY difficult to get right, and can lead to many contrivances and plot holes, so introducing the concept into _Descendants_ of all things was not a good idea.
i know right. because of this plot hole it is weird that Uma is a principle. uma can be alive in the new timeline (since her mom didn’t froze) but she will miss her sidemen Harry. mal can’t be born ( her mom and dad are frozen) she can’t fall in love with ben and not get both sides (auradon/ idle of the lost) together. (the 3rd movie wouldn’t even exist in this timeline, audrey wouldn’t be jealous of mal for stealing her man because mal wouldn’t have existed.)

What I don’t like is the first song Red. It’s good but even Red knows how unfair her mom is with all her ‘’Off with their heads’’. She knows if she gets caught at worse she’d most likely be grounded. But the guards who failed to catch her will definitely die. We even heard the Queen of Hearts make suggestions for how to kill the first guard. So Red did an act of rebellion, sure she doesn’t want to conform to her moms wishes yet she condemned guards who were just trying to do their jobs to death because she wanted to decorate the courtyard. If that’s not a VK, I don’t know what is. Because for as hard as she’s trying to tear down what her mom built, she also doesn’t realize how many other innocent lives she’s ruining.
It’s not even that when it matters most for Red to rebel against her mom she doesn’t. This is when she charges Cinderella with treason. She could have refused and been punished. Maybe have it cause trust issues for the rest of the movie. She could have regretted that decision and had that be a motivation to never fall for something like that again as she frets over becoming her mom throughout the entire movie. Until maybe it’s a heart to heart with Chloe or Bridgett that people can make bad decisions and strive to change or how to not fall to a bully’s tactics. Have this be the motivation for change in Red. This could have been a scene that changed everything instead nope. Shows Red is all talk.
I also thought Cinderella was the villain. I was convinced she was the one who made Bridget evil. They set up the story that Cinderella asks Bridget to Castle Coming and then gets grounded. So the story should have gone that she tells Bridget she can’t go, then (as per her story) shows up with thanks to fairy godmother. Bridget is embarrassed because she’s alone, then maybe there’s another prank on her by the villains? So she’s both embarrassed by being stood up and is pranked. Cinderella seemed like she pitied her over actually liking her. It make sense for her to be the villain. Idk, it was set up, maybe someone got cold feet about portraying Cinderella as an antagonist mid production.
Also the “you knew her?” “I saw through her” line felt mike it was implying she betrayed her but then it seems like they changed their mind halfway through

In this case Red rebels not just against her mother but against people who tell her what she can and can't do. Cinderella said in her (Red) face that she wasn't capable of charging someone and Red decided to prove her wrong

Red was so insanely unlikable from start to finish. Like she essentially mocks Chloe for her mom’s death but that gets written off because “sometimes good people have to make hard choices”??? And completely unrelated to D4, but Audrey will forever be one of my faves. It always irked me how Mal was rewarded for ruining Audrey’s life, I really didn’t like her since then 😭
Especially the castlecoming part is awful because they spend 30 minutes setting up wonderland, that never shows up again, and then rush through the climax because suddenly there's no time
YES Lizzie Hearts had tons of character development in the show (also in the books!) plus her design is just perfect for a daughter of the queen of hearts. Red on the other hand…is a girl who ONLY wears red and has red hair 😂
EXACTLY! Lizzie Hearts to me has one of the best designs in Ever After High! And her name is so much better too! The people who made EAH put so much thought into it! Meanwhile when it came to naming the characters in Descendants, the people at Disney were just like « Let’s just give them names that start with the same letter as their parents’ and call it a day ».
I feel like reds character is so poorly written. At first were introduced to her as the “rebel princess who hates authority and wants to carve her own path” then the next theme she seems like a genuinely sweet girl who just wants to see what’s out there. Then a few scenes later she is a total bitch to Chloe?? Her character is so flip floppy it’s hard to get a read on her. It’s like she has a new personality depending on what the scene calls for

I agree that I did not like Red and that she did not even change as a person. I get that she felt pressured by her mother to accuse Cinderella of treason. But I felt like it was crazy that she never even apologized once to Chloe or seemingly felt bad about her actions and idk having her mom killed, and Chloe just decided to forgive her and they end up being friends. Again with 0 apology. It just feels like Red didn’t need to work for anything and everything was just either, solved for her or handed to her throughout the film, without her even being a good person to boot.

You’re right, the plot really isn’t progressive and you made a good point when you said it’s filled with too many songs and the songs didn’t move the story along it was just about the moment. The story would’ve been better if the life is sweeter song was towards the beginning like 2/3 song and castlecoming was the climax then ofc coming back to the present where we have a good closing song like set it off (D1)
the story idea honestly wasn’t a bad one, and i’m sure as an audience we could’ve ignored the VKs they decided to use if we got bettter backstories and overall if it didn’t feel so rushed
I completely agree about Red. It’s clear that the writers don’t know what they want her character to be. You can tell whoever wrote the first 3 films soundtracks had nothing to do with this movie. Every lyric of the songs sounds like they went to Instagram, tik tok , and twitter for inspiration. The new VKs are so unserious it actually hilarious.
i am certain there were production and script changes, probably strike related, because there is no way they didn't plan for castlecoming to happen or cinderella to be the one who actually did the prank, like they set it up so much, it had to be the plan, but it somehow changed at some point. even the cast on tiktok vaguely mentioned that they were excited for castlecoming to happen, there was definitely a time when that was the plan, but it got cut. maybe because they wanted to stretch it out into a sequel, but even if that was the case, the movie should've ended differently, like them coming back to the present and realizing something was wrong, and that's the sequel bait of like, oh no, we have to go back. also, i agree, red didn't really have any character change, she just stayed the same the whole way. i think maybe chloe was supposed to have the arc of realizing that things are not always black and white, and her mom turning out to be the one who did the prank would've helped with that realization, like oh my mom that i love and is so good at one point did something really bad, and that would've made her see something in red, but i think they fumbled it somewhere in the re-writes and forgot to make anyone have any sort of character arc

I watched this movie with my 15 year old sister (I’m 21) cause we grew up on descendants. Everything you’re saying about how it should have ended with Cinderella being the bad guy, the isolation, how wayyyy more about the future in general should have been way different that it was before was EXACTLY what we thought the plot was leading to. We were so confused when it ended cause we were like ‘really? That’s how it ends? That’s it?’.
The plot of this movie reminds me of the Ever After High movie where they went to Wonderland to stop courtly jester from taking over Wonderland by pretending to be Lizzie Heart's daughter after the queen of hearts was put into a spell to be evil. Also this movie has a lot of plot holes especially with the fact that they put ursula's sister and not ursula herself which makes the timeline look really weird. Wouldn't Hades be older than all of them? Considering the fact that he is immortal and can't age since he's the god of the underworld it wouldn't make sense
There was so much they could have done with the idea of a Fairytale Crossover to make this franchise stand apart from previous works that also went with it! Like, instead of having ALL the Disney characters exist at the exact same time and place, they could have existed on the same fictional continent but at different places and times so that all of their stories would have happened as they do in the animated movies. And instead of being their children, the protagonists could have the grandchildren, great-children and distant relatives of SOME of them. I truly don’t think that Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella or Ursula would ever want to have children! Had it been only some of the Disney characters having distant relatives, it would have made more sense and they could have come up with an interesting story to explain why these specific characters have been brought together at this magical school! A prophecy? A spell? A curse cast by Yen-Sid? The Evil Queen? Maleficent? Have they been brought here to undo something? Unleash something? Reminds me of the Grimrose Girls book series by Laura Pohl, which gets often compared to Descendants but is actually more comparable to Ever After High because of this idea of a fate that the characters can’t escape. It’s set in a boarding school, where the protagonists find out that they, as well as the rest of the students, are doomed to repeat the gruesome endings of various fairytales, like the ones who came before them and have to find a way to break the curse. Disney could have done something similar (not with the gruesome endings stuff but rather with the setting and idea of a curse)! Or they could have done something similar to Kingdom Hearts and have all these Disney characters exist in different universes and time periods but be brought together to the dimension of Auradon for a specific reason! Doing all of this would have allowed the Descendants franchise to stand apart from Ever After High, but instead they decided to be lazy and rip it off! They really needed to be more creative!
I believe it was (Cinder)Ella who pranked Bridget. The reasons are 1.Ella constantly talked aboit hating royals, 2. When Bridget said Ella was her friend Ella would make faces behind her. 3. We’re told that if you touched the spell book with bad intentions you’ll be frozen, and we see that when the VKs are fighting red and Chloe for the book. And that would have happened in the og timeline anyway so who could have pranked Bridget if not Ella.
I feel like the queen of hearts cannot be redeemed. Like she’s the queen of hearts. Like the “off with their head” queen of hearts.. like the low key murderer queen of hearts. I feel like a better moral for the red arc could be that some people deserve forgiveness, but not redemption. Idk if I explained that well but think kinda like the diamonds from Steven universe, they were held accountable but yeah Steven still hates being around them?? I wouldn’t say they’re redeemed. But if you haven’t seen that show I think mal and her mom are the perfect example. I’m just saying the queen of hearts shouldn’t be redeemed and Disney shouldn’t make the moral “ just let bygones be bygones 🤗🤗” when people do horrible things
i dont mind having a musical be mostly songs and minimal dialogue, most broadway shows i love are like that. my problem with the songs is that most songs started in an awkward way and didnt get a natural transition. people talk a lot about how in musicals characters sing when words can no longer be enough to say what they have to say, and the movie didnt let any scene get to that point even if it was just a few more lines for it, it was pretty rushed
There are so many ways this movie could have been better. An example being the plot hole of “how did uliana open the book the first time without getting paralyzed”? I was thinking about how the movie was setting up Cinderella to be the villain (missed opportunity but whatever) and I was thinking about how the villains could have manipulated Cinderella into helping them prank Bridget and bring Cinderella with them so that she could have opened the book instead. It could also be used as a good plot point for Chloe’s character development, instead of the ‘get your hands dirty’ song which the movie would have been fine without. Chloe would come with red to get the book, see her mom there and have a revelation about how good and evil isn’t always black and white, and how good people do bad things. I’m not sure if that would have fixed all the plot holes, but I feel like it would have made for a more interesting plot than what we were given. Overall this movie had so much potential to be better than what it was, but at the end of the day I think most of us are seeing this for what it is; a shameless cash grab.

The Rise of Red is such a weird title too. The whole point is Red doesn’t want to be queen. And the plot itself has very little to do with Red and is mainly about Ella and Bridget.
I am here to express all my problems with this movie. 1. Red. She is just a rebellious girl, who can't be herself and do... idk, there was no scene where she is forced to do something because of her mom, like wear fancy dresses, do her hair in a certain way, paint, or even walk... there is no scene that makes me think she is a prisoner of her mom. And she learns nothing. Chloe had to learn that life is not only white or black, to understand her mother in the past, and that's not bad; Red... learned how to change her mom, instead of understanding her, what her wishes were, what her mother appreciated most and realized it wasn't just a prank what happened to her, it could be betrayal, it could be a moment where no one helped her, so she realized it doesn't matter how good you are, life is unfair, and if everyone will be evil with her, so she'd be most evil queen in the kingdom... but Red wants to change her mom because she can't dress like she wants to 2. The main characters design. They are just two blue and red dots in the movie. There is no real thought behind their designs and it annoys me so bad. Yes, in the first movie, each character had their own color: Mal was purple, Evie was blue, Carlos was white and black, Jay was warm colors, but they weren't only that, they had actual color palettes in their outfits: Mal was purple, green and pink; Evie was blue, red, and black; Carlos was white, black and red, and Jay is the only one with more variety of colors. But here, Red and Chloe are only red and blue, without any other variation of their colors, and it looks bad. They could make Red wear some white to represent "her goodness", or even be a little more pink; with Chloe it could add darker tones of blue and yellow. They had a good opportunity to make something good, but they decided to make some bad designs... 3. The dance. So... there is no dance, and they showed crucial moments that lead to future events in the ball, like Bridget practicing some dance moves, Cinderella inviting her to the dance, and the f prank... I don't remember where it was but once I heard a phrase: "if in your movie, at the beginning there is a scene focusing on a gun, that gun must have been used by the end of the movie" and I love that phrase. The movie is so cowardly and bad that they didn't show the dance, and as audience it's frustrating. I watched the movie with my little sisters (I'm 22, they are 18 and 15) and at the end of the movie, we stayed silence until my little sister ask "and the dance?", we were mad and we ranted for about 30 minutes after that. Ah I should stop here, ik it's just a kids movie but tbh kids deserve better
I miss ever after high. And I’m still really salty that it was cancelled because of this. it was not worth it. Even though I’m 22 I still often re watch ever after high and I’m sad we won’t get new stuff because of descendants.
Omg, finally someone mentioned how dislikable Red is as a character. I particularly hated how she (and the other characters) ganged up on Chloe for being “stuck-up” and “having everything handed out to her”, only for her to be exactly the same, except that just bc she has an evil mom, she gets forgiven. Also, what was up with Cinderella always making faces when Bridget called her a friend or was being overly sweet/optimistic? A true bestie doesn’t do that. I think they wanted to show a relationship like Mal and Evie had, but their friendship seemed too fake for me to enjoy it. If anything, it did make me believe Ella was going to betray Bridget AND be glad about it, lmao. And for being a musical, the music sucked. They not only had too much auto-tune in every song (which is a disrespect to how amazing the cast’s actual voices are. What’s the point in hiring singers if you won’t let them sing with their REAL voices?), but they “rapped” or talked during the verses. And finally, the amount of plot holes this movie has not only ruined this film, but the previous ones too! From little details (such as the Auradon people -especially Cinderalla and Charming- having BRIGHT COLORED hair like the VKs) to HUGE DETAILS (the cook book being enchanted so no one evil could use it, the villains and heroes going to high school in the same place even though their kingdoms weren’t united by then and each of them had storylines on their own, Castlecoming not happening at all), it just seemed like the producers didn’t even care about learning the Descendants universe and lore. P.S.: Couldn’t we just have new VKs and AKs as well? Why reuse Cinderella’s kids or Ursula’s family members? And no way Hades and Maleficent were followers of Ursula’s BABY SISTER. A god and the most powerful evil fairy in the kingdom wouldn’t follow around a freaking octopus
the answer to like all of this would have been for Red and Chloe to comfort Bridget after the prank, The queen of hearts literally makes note that Ella was with Charming during the whole thing AND Ella says Bridget has no friends. Showing that Bridget had people in her corner after the whole thing would have still allowed the prank to happen, see castlecoming and also helped her character. The problem wasnt that she was so angry at the prank, it was that she was ALONE, love (platonic) failed her when she needed it most. Have the VKs already have the book too, they can’t stop the prank, only mitigate the consequences, ALSO they had Morgana’s son was right there, use him, he looked cool. Additionally, the “golden rule” in musicals is when you can’t speak it, sing it, you can’t sing it, dance it. Love Ain’t it, (as much as i liked it) Love is sweeter, and Shuffle of Love (+ the remixes) were unnecessary because they lacked motivation and meaning, two of them literally paused the story in its place Red should have introduced Red and Chloe- maybe shown a difference in their lifestyles and act as an “I want” song for the both (bc we learned what they wanted… through dialogue when it should have been a song); What’s my name (red ver) should have been much shorter, only a chorus to intro Uma to the crowd and serve has a callback; Fight of our lives could have called back to Red with the two dynamics and merged them at the end (the emotion built up enough for them to sing, not talk); Perfect Revenge is actually one of the two I think they got right, the VKs were so mad they can’t say it so they sang it; Get your hands dirty did it well too, Chloe just wasn’t listening to Ella so she appealed to the way Chloe grew up, singing Also move some parts of the story around… pls, it went: Uma and FGM, Red -> Red and Mad Hatter guy, Chloe + parents, Red and mom -> orientation, back in time, present. There was too much time in between introducing the second main character Chloe TLDR; make it to Ella wasn’t there when Bridget needed her most, honest human mistake, she’s not evil, she (just like most ppl) put romantic over platonic love. Make Morgana’s son the main villain, he’s new and he has an actual connection to both magic and Merlin. Using the “golden rule” in musicals, they only needed like 4 songs. Can’t talk? Sing. Can’t sing? Dance
I said this before it even came out but some people felt like I was hanging on to late Cameroon. Season 3 ended well but you see some people saying that they need season 4 because they want to know how they're living They've seen what they're looking for. I feel the same way with Raven from EAH. she knew her mom couldn't change from who she was which was why she helped Apple and her classmates trap her mom back in the mirror realm. I don't like how this movie does that whole "forgive and forget thing"

There's no way I'm the only one who realized Rise of Red is literally just Tim Burton's Through the Looking Glass but with the time travel to save the red queen working. Why am I the only one who realized they copied and simplified the plot and got away with it.
Another thing is how if time was changed, Red and Chloe would’ve instantly get new memories never seen before of them being friends since they were kids… since their moms stayed BEST friends and obviously their daughters would knew each other. Also red personality would’ve also changed due to her mother actually showing her care at a young age… and she might have a new design 😭😭 also more wonderland habitants would’ve attend the school since they have a fair ruler who will fight for others, so why they’re acting surprised. Idk the more questions the more plot holes this causes. And please can we talk about the final scene with Chloe and Ella, which was obviously CGI like the two weren’t on the same set at all ( the way Chloe looks is unnatural and the different lighting both have😭)
The Queen of hearts says that she was mad at her because she wasn't by her side and was dancing prince charming during the coup 13:09 but it not much of a matter i mean chloe was never isolated and she still went there this crtique seems really weird to me idk

My Review: Horrible movie, chole is more of a disney channel show/movie actor rather than the acting that was needed for her role. Also she can’t sing and that autotune sound horrid. The songs were bad and the lyrics were interesting to say the least. Also the talking instead of singing during songs was not it. The wigs 💀. Why was it so short??? It didn’t feel descendants at all. I love kylie from her disney show and ruby from hers and that mixed with my love for descendants is the only reason I watched this but it was so disappointing 😔 (my genuine question is was there a major difference in budget with the movie compared to the others because it looks like it 💀) also I agree with everything you said
I was honestly disappointed but also I expected it to be a lazy cash grab anyways. But this movie could’ve been so good if they just cared a little more (ahem, Wish) I really don’t like that they succeeded and the mom was just different… there were no lessons learned, and in a timeline sense like you said, SO MANY THINGS would’ve been COMPLETELY different. It would have made much more sense for them to for 1 thing actually show us the dance, and 2 show them still somehow pranking her even if they don’t have the cook book, there are so many ways to bully/prank people, and then they have to accept that they failed, OR they go back again and again and fair every time and then finally go back to their timeline and red actually just confronts her mom and they actually LEARN SOMETHING and the mom realizes that she’s wrong and then has a change of heart. Also they’d have to get there a little before to make sure Cinderella doesn’t die of course. Also this is a personal thing but I really wish that Chloe wasn’t just Cinderella’s daughter😭. I’m the first scene when Red gets grabbed by the hook thing I was PRAYING that it was “the blue haired girl” and she was like, the queens of hearts sister’s daughter, or the mad hatter’s daughter, or the RABBITS DAUGHTER, I wanted her to be a nerdy invented with some kind of quirk, like she’s a little mad, or she’s strict with schedules… or even still that she’s a goody two shoes like the queens of hearts sister in Alice in wonderland😭 I’m really disappointed she’s just fricken chad’s sister and Cinderella and charming’s daughter and she grew up in a perfect family and is purely goody two shoes with no other interesting factors about her character. Maybe its also fun to read how the real Alice in Wonderland is like its a very good book imo. And then also play a game like Alice Madness Returns. That horror game just.... Knows how to handle Wonderland from the original story the best. Its a shame EA didnt put more effort in it.
See, I had never heard of ever after high until after descendants. And I don’t see the 3rd movie as being targeted to children as there’s a proposal and then Ben and Mal flirting when they reunited. And we already had a 4th descendants with the animated one where they fully show a pocket watch and white roses painted red so anyone who knows about Alice in wonderland would know the next movie is connected to that story

Honestly I believe that actually Ella was the one who actually pulled the prank on Briget. Here are my reasons: 1. First when Bridget was like “Just a few more treats and they will be” Ella literally gave a LOOK if you know what I mean 2. in the song “Love ain’t it” QoH goes “they are all two faced and too fake” but Uli was already mean so her pulling a prank doesn’t make her fake 3. even if Uliana got the book (like they did in the film) they all got permafroze so like she couldn’t of pulled the prank 4. Ella wouldn’t tell Chloe about it - and if she didn’t do it she has no reason to keep it a secret; She was like “Don’t dwell on the past” and like Chloe wouldn’t share secrets so like she has no reason to not tell Her OWN DAUGHTER unless she was embarrassed and guilty about it That’s my Theory What do u think?
I agree with you on this movie messing up the timeline of not only the descendants world but also the villains fairytales stories. i like their wardrobe but this suppose to take place during ancient times not 20-25 years before rise of red when auradon was born 30 years before ( unless I did the math wrong is before the events of the past with the queen of hearts) so the cloths shouldn't look like that. Descendants already been tricky with the timeline because villains like Cruella would exist way after the magical era existed or in another dimesntion without magic.
I thought this movie would go for the old formula but it doesn’t and even more boring. What I would change is that Morgie should be Madame Mim because Morgie never appeared in the Disney universe. He looks like a random character. I want Cinderella be the villain too. It can be a contrast for her and Bridget. Cinderella calling it’s a silly prank really hints she did something but no. The ending, because Bridget doesn’t get pranked anymore. So Red will disappear in pixie dust and Chloe would be worried. Then she travel back alone and meet the new Red. It can start a new sequel smoother because the Red now has no idea who’s Chloe.
2 years after this movie, they came out with the royal wedding (Mal and Ben’s wedding) which was to honor Cameron. And at the end of the wedding they said “this is what happily ever after looks like for us” “but somewhere else it’s just beginning” and then it went into a rabbit hole with white roses painted red. You can definitely tell they weren’t planning on making a 4th movie until a couple years later
I loved ever after high and monster high and I wish ever after high continued but I really do love descendants and well “too many songs” is well because it was a musical after all. And for the first movie I really did like it I liked how they showed how the vks was afraid of their parents but soon learn they don’t have to be. They have each other and they’re nothing like their parents. Sure it might be ever after high but they’re very different and probably a Thousand shows/books/movies with the same plot. 2:48 I watched descendants 3 live and went back to rewatch it and the ending was very different. And I mean the ending said something like “this is the ending of my story but a new chapter is just beginning” so yes they been planing this movie for years. It might have been WAYYY different than they planned since one of the members died unexpectedly. And with people not wanting to continue it without him they had to find new people. And despite being very young during when these movies came out. Descendants two was way more relatable for me Mel feeling as if she don’t belong. And that she will forever be a villain and the only way to fit in was to changed herself using magic but when that backfired she went back to her old ways despite still being an outsider.and I didn’t like descendants 3 that much but them “switching up” within 3 seconds was in my opinion because Mel and uma became very close before hang and uma seeing Mel actually kept her promise. Was what made her “switch up” and like we are shown uma have a kind heart she just want revenge. And it also go in def on amber? (Forgot her name but sleeping beauty daughter) character she wasn’t the villain of the story at all. And let me explain why, imagine the daughter of the person who tried to k!ll your mother come to your homeland with her friends planning god who knows what. And within the time they’re there your boyfriend randomly fell in love with that same kid and decided to ask her out WITHOUT even breaking up with you first. And then you find out they was only here for the wand which can bring back the person who tried to k!ll your mother. (Now it’s wricked world) then after 3-6 months she randomly started putting spells on you ruining everything that you planned for. Then not only that (descendants 2-3) your grandmother is heavily disappointed in you for letting the prince marry someone else. And she even compare you to your mother “your mother could land a guy in her sleep” so now the guy you knew for years and was in love with is gone and your grandmother is disappointed in you for not become queen. She was just very stressed out and was pretty much belittled if she didn’t do something right. Yes, she could be selfish but that who she is. But she’s still not the villain of the story. I’m not if she but I want to talk about this 3:17 yes like I said before this movie was planned but the story was probably changed. I like this movie a lot it shows the need of freedom, wanting to be different from someone who seems to not love you, and the theme of time traveling and the unpredictable consequences. I do believe she learnt a lot during the movie. Red who lived as “the soon to be evil queen” rebels against her mother but once she go into the past she realized even the evilest of people could have been nice one time before being turned into a monster. And that people are two faced (Elia) she learnt she could be different from her mother and change history. It wasn’t like she was just “oh you can go back in time and change everything” she learnt to be herself 3:31 it’s a musical, but I really did enjoy the songs if you don’t like musical I DO NOT recommend descendents 3:49 there’s some songs here that wasn’t in the movie or was just used as background music. Something I really DO NOT like about this movie is that it is heavily implied that Elia did the prank yes, it might be different because chole got her grounded but still if that was the cast the story would still be the same no matter what. Why? Because she could have Snuck out. And to be far I listen to anything so that might why I love all the songs (minus “say my name red version”) I do think they should had given us at least a 20 minute break between songs 6:38 no because at least show us what happened 8:04 red and Mel is completely different but similar red always knew her mother was horrible and didn’t want to be like her. Unlike Mel, all she knew was steal, evil, be like your mother. Red and Mel both defeated their mother they both became something they wanted in red case she didn’t want to be evil and that what she got. For Mel she wanted freedom(like red) she wanted a new life, a new start. And that what she got she got the chance to start over because she is nothing like her mother. Meanwhile red changed her mother 8:48 yes, it is important but red mother was bloodthirsty she threw thing to kill her own child if she didn’t do as she says. Unlike Mel mother, Mel mother really did love Mel but would never show it because all she knows is how to be evil she don’t understand love. That why she turned into a lizards because “that how much love she had in her heart” 9:23 she tried to help chole save her mother even thought she could have left chole by herself, she tried to stop chole from fighting her mother because red knew her mother would kill chole too. She felt bad that her mother didn’t have friends and was being harassed, red go again the rules so she can prove she is nothing like her mother. So her way of getting the book was wrong but for the right reasons 9:46 of course! Red is her own character she hate following rules she don’t want to hurt anyone. But also she can be really bad at times or just out right rude for no reason she is not evil but she is not good she is like a morality gray character 10:05 it not just because she feel guilty when they went back in the past she looked really nervous and queen of heart wouldn’t hate her for no reason since they was best friends “their two faced and too fake” she was definitely talking about Elia. I totally agree with you on the music. Also, I grew up with Descendants, so when I saw the first 2 movies, I didn't speak English and they didn't translate the songs. I watched the new movie in English and I don't know whether it came out in other languages as well or not, but imagine being a 11-year-old who don't speak English watching this movie with millions of songs and "rapped" discussions. They won't understand anything! If the first movie were like this, I'm sure I wouldn't have cared about the second

i think you’re completely valid in feeling upset. the argument that “it’s just a kids show” is so irritating because it basically insinuates that kids aren’t deserving of good media because, well, they’re kids. kids aren’t stupid and it’s messed up to treat them as such.
I’m grateful to have grown up with media like Ever After High, because the show treated its audience with respect and care in its storytelling and it gives us something to look back on fondly when we rewatch these shows as adults.
Ever After High deserved so much better. Like the plot was so interesting and all of the characters were so detailed. Speaking of characters, THE ART STYLE WAS FREAKING STUNNING. It’s so hard to enjoy a movie, show, or book when the protagonist is so poorly written to the point where I’m rooting for the ANTAGONIST😭
I feel like they were trying to take inspiration from how mal was in the first movie like being rebellious, stuck between being good and bad, and her somewhat complicated relationship with her mom but still wanting to make her proud etc. but it was executed very poorly with red and it feels like a cheap knock off of mals character and I’m sure people would disagree with me but this is just how I see it. If this movie came out while I was still in the fandom I’d be upset and disappointed lol overall it was anticlimactic and felt rushed didn’t have the same vibe as the other movies

I’m glad I’m not the only one that was bothered by the changing parents to be good subplot with Red and Bridget. Instead of trying to prevent the prank, why not have Red bond with her mother in the past and see how she was brought up and how it changed her. Cause the thing is, you can’t force people to change, people need to change themselves
Edit: And maybe, Red finally musters the courage to stand up to her mom and mom explains why she’s so controlling to her daughter because of past trauma, because by being overly strict, she thought she was preparing Red to be strong. But Red convinces her that just because she suffered doesn’t mean she gets to make her suffer as well, and that if anyone decides to hurt her. Chloe will be there as her friend

The plot feels very similar to "Ever After High: Dragon Games." I know this franchise gets a lot of criticism for having such a similar concept, but "Ever After High" treats the fairy tale role as an obligation while the "Descendants" franchise treats it more like a choice. "Rise of Red" feels like it's trying to push the two ideas together.
Time travel is VERY difficult to get right, and can lead to many contrivances and plot holes, so introducing the concept into _Descendants_ of all things was not a good idea.

Rise of Red has a lot of plot holes but mal being born isn’t one of them. The paralyzing trap was never meant to be permanent, it wore off later.
Plot hole:the book freezes every bad person who tries to open it so, how did huliana opened the book to bake the "evil muffins" without getting paralyzed?

What I don’t like is the first song Red. It’s good but even Red knows how unfair her mom is with all her ‘’Off with their heads’’. She knows if she gets caught at worse she’d most likely be grounded. But the guards who failed to catch her will definitely die. We even heard the Queen of Hearts make suggestions for how to kill the first guard. So Red did an act of rebellion, sure she doesn’t want to conform to her moms wishes yet she condemned guards who were just trying to do their jobs to death because she wanted to decorate the courtyard. If that’s not a VK, I don’t know what is. Because for as hard as she’s trying to tear down what her mom built, she also doesn’t realize how many other innocent lives she’s ruining.
It’s not even that when it matters most for Red to rebel against her mom she doesn’t. This is when she charges Cinderella with treason. She could have refused and been punished. Maybe have it cause trust issues for the rest of the movie.
She could have regretted that decision and had that be a motivation to never fall for something like that again as she frets over becoming her mom throughout the entire movie. Until maybe it’s a heart to heart with Chloe or Bridgett that people can make bad decisions and strive to change or how to not fall to a bully’s tactics. Have this be the motivation for change in Red.
This could have been a scene that changed everything instead nope. Shows Red is all talk.
I also thought Cinderella was the villain. I was convinced she was the one who made Bridget evil.
They set up the story that Cinderella asks Bridget to Castle Coming and then gets grounded. So the story should have gone that she tells Bridget she can’t go, then (as per her story) shows up with thanks to fairy godmother. Bridget is embarrassed because she’s alone, then maybe there’s another prank on her by the villains? So she’s both embarrassed by being stood up and is pranked. Cinderella seemed like she pitied her over actually liking her. It make sense for her to be the villain.
Idk, it was set up, maybe someone got cold feet about portraying Cinderella as an antagonist mid production.

EXACTLY! Lizzie Hearts to me has one of the best designs in Ever After High! And her name is so much better too! The people who made EAH put so much thought into it! Meanwhile when it came to naming the characters in Descendants, the people at Disney were just like « Let’s just give them names that start with the same letter as their parents’ and call it a day ».

I agree that I did not like Red and that she did not even change as a person. I get that she felt pressured by her mother to accuse Cinderella of treason. But I felt like it was crazy that she never even apologized once to Chloe or seemingly felt bad about her actions and idk having her mom killed, and Chloe just decided to forgive her and they end up being friends. Again with 0 apology. It just feels like Red didn’t need to work for anything and everything was just either, solved for her or handed to her throughout the film, without her even being a good person to boot.

The story would’ve been better if the life is sweeter song was towards the beginning like 2/3 song and castlecoming was the climax then ofc coming back to the present where we have a good closing song like set it off (D1)

I completely agree about Red. It’s clear that the writers don’t know what they want her character to be. You can tell whoever wrote the first 3 films soundtracks had nothing to do with this movie. Every lyric of the songs sounds like they went to Instagram, tik tok , and twitter for inspiration. The new VKs are so unserious it actually hilarious.
i am certain there were production and script changes, probably strike related, because there is no way they didn't plan for castlecoming to happen or cinderella to be the one who actually did the prank, like they set it up so much, it had to be the plan, but it somehow changed at some point. even the cast on tiktok vaguely mentioned that they were excited for castlecoming to happen, there was definitely a time when that was the plan, but it got cut. maybe because they wanted to stretch it out into a sequel, but even if that was the case, the movie should've ended differently, like them coming back to the present and realizing something was wrong, and that's the sequel bait of like, oh no, we have to go back.
also, i agree, red didn't really have any character change, she just stayed the same the whole way. i think maybe chloe was supposed to have the arc of realizing that things are not always black and white, and her mom turning out to be the one who did the prank would've helped with that realization, like oh my mom that i love and is so good at one point did something really bad, and that would've made her see something in red, but i think they fumbled it somewhere in the re-writes and forgot to make anyone have any sort of character arc

I watched this movie with my 15 year old sister (I’m 21) cause we grew up on descendants. Everything you’re saying about how it should have ended with Cinderella being the bad guy, the isolation, how wayyyy more about the future in general should have been way different that it was before was EXACTLY what we thought the plot was leading to. We were so confused when it ended cause we were like ‘really? That’s how it ends? That’s it?’.
The plot of this movie reminds me of the Ever After High movie where they went to Wonderland to stop courtly jester from taking over Wonderland by pretending to be Lizzie Heart's daughter after the queen of hearts was put into a spell to be evil. Also this movie has a lot of plot holes especially with the fact that they put ursula's sister and not ursula herself which makes the timeline look really weird. Wouldn't Hades be older than all of them? Considering the fact that he is immortal and can't age since he's the god of the underworld it wouldn't make sense
There was so much they could have done with the idea of a Fairytale Crossover to make this franchise stand apart from previous works that also went with it! Like, instead of having ALL the Disney characters exist at the exact same time and place, they could have existed on the same fictional continent but at different places and times so that all of their stories would have happened as they do in the animated movies. And instead of being their children, the protagonists could have the grandchildren, great-children and distant relatives of SOME of them. I truly don’t think that Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella or Ursula would ever want to have children!
Had it been only some of the Disney characters having distant relatives, it would have made more sense and they could have come up with an interesting story to explain why these specific characters have been brought together at this magical school! A prophecy? A spell? A curse cast by Yen-Sid? The Evil Queen? Maleficent? Have they been brought here to undo something? Unleash something?
Reminds me of the Grimrose Girls book series by Laura Pohl, which gets often compared to Descendants but is actually more comparable to Ever After High because of this idea of a fate that the characters can’t escape. It’s set in a boarding school, where the protagonists find out that they, as well as the rest of the students, are doomed to repeat the gruesome endings of various fairytales, like the ones who came before them and have to find a way to break the curse. Disney could have done something similar (not with the gruesome endings stuff but rather with the setting and idea of a curse)!
Or they could have done something similar to Kingdom Hearts and have all these Disney characters exist in different universes and time periods but be brought together to the dimension of Auradon for a specific reason! Doing all of this would have allowed the Descendants franchise to stand apart from Ever After High, but instead they decided to be lazy and rip it off! They really needed to be more creative!

We’re told that if you touched the spell book with bad intentions you’ll be frozen, and we see that when the VKs are fighting red and Chloe for the book. And that would have happened in the og timeline anyway so who could have pranked Bridget if not Ella.

I feel like a better moral for the red arc could be that some people deserve forgiveness, but not redemption. Idk if I explained that well but think kinda like the diamonds from Steven universe, they were held accountable but yeah Steven still hates being around them?? I wouldn’t say they’re redeemed. But if you haven’t seen that show I think mal and her mom are the perfect example. i dont mind having a musical be mostly songs and minimal dialogue, most broadway shows i love are like that. my problem with the songs is that most songs started in an awkward way and didnt get a natural transition. people talk a lot about how in musicals characters sing when words can no longer be enough to say what they have to say, and the movie didnt let any scene get to that point even if it was just a few more lines for it, it was pretty rushed

There are so many ways this movie could have been better. An example being the plot hole of “how did uliana open the book the first time without getting paralyzed”? I was thinking about how the movie was setting up Cinderella to be the villain (missed opportunity but whatever) and I was thinking about how the villains could have manipulated Cinderella into helping them prank Bridget and bring Cinderella with them so that she could have opened the book instead. It could also be used as a good plot point for Chloe’s character development, instead of the ‘get your hands dirty’ song which the movie would have been fine without. Chloe would come with red to get the book, see her mom there and have a revelation about how good and evil isn’t always black and white, and how good people do bad things. I’m not sure if that would have fixed all the plot holes, but I feel like it would have made for a more interesting plot than what we were given. Overall this movie had so much potential to be better than what it was, but at the end of the day I think most of us are seeing this for what it is; a shameless cash grab.

The Rise of Red is such a weird title too. The whole point is Red doesn’t want to be queen. And the plot itself has very little to do with Red and is mainly about Ella and Bridget.
I am here to express all my problems with this movie.
1. Red. She is just a rebellious girl, who can't be herself and do... idk, there was no scene where she is forced to do something because of her mom, like wear fancy dresses, do her hair in a certain way, paint, or even walk... there is no scene that makes me think she is a prisoner of her mom. And she learns nothing.
Chloe had to learn that life is not only white or black, to understand her mother in the past, and that's not bad; Red... learned how to change her mom, instead of understanding her, what her wishes were, what her mother appreciated most and realized it wasn't just a prank what happened to her, it could be betrayal, it could be a moment where no one helped her, so she realized it doesn't matter how good you are, life is unfair, and if everyone will be evil with her, so she'd be most evil queen in the kingdom... but Red wants to change her mom because she can't dress like she wants to
2. The main characters design. They are just two blue and red dots in the movie. There is no real thought behind their designs and it annoys me so bad. Yes, in the first movie, each character had their own color: Mal was purple, Evie was blue, Carlos was white and black, Jay was warm colors, but they weren't only that, they had actual color palettes in their outfits: Mal was purple, green and pink; Evie was blue, red, and black; Carlos was white, black and red, and Jay is the only one with more variety of colors. But here, Red and Chloe are only red and blue, without any other variation of their colors, and it looks bad. They could make Red wear some white to represent "her goodness", or even be a little more pink; with Chloe it could add darker tones of blue and yellow. They had a good opportunity to make something good, but they decided to make some bad designs...
3. The dance. So... there is no dance, and they showed crucial moments that lead to future events in the ball, like Bridget practicing some dance moves, Cinderella inviting her to the dance, and the f prank... I don't remember where it was but once I heard a phrase: "if in your movie, at the beginning there is a scene focusing on a gun, that gun must have been used by the end of the movie" and I love that phrase. The movie is so cowardly and bad that they didn't show the dance, and as audience it's frustrating. I watched the movie with my little sisters (I'm 22, they are 18 and 15) and at the end of the movie, we stayed silence until my little sister ask "and the dance?", we were mad and we ranted for about 30 minutes after that.

Omg, finally someone mentioned how dislikable Red is as a character. I particularly hated how she (and the other characters) ganged up on Chloe for being “stuck-up” and “having everything handed out to her”, only for her to be exactly the same, except that just bc she has an evil mom, she gets forgiven.
Also, what was up with Cinderella always making faces when Bridget called her a friend or was being overly sweet/optimistic? A true bestie doesn’t do that. I think they wanted to show a relationship like Mal and Evie had, but their friendship seemed too fake for me to enjoy it. If anything, it did make me believe Ella was going to betray Bridget AND be glad about it, lmao.
And for being a musical, the music sucked. They not only had too much auto-tune in every song (which is a disrespect to how amazing the cast’s actual voices are. What’s the point in hiring singers if you won’t let them sing with their REAL voices?), but they “rapped” or talked during the verses.
And finally, the amount of plot holes this movie has not only ruined this film, but the previous ones too! From little details (such as the Auradon people -especially Cinderalla and Charming- having BRIGHT COLORED hair like the VKs) to HUGE DETAILS (the cook book being enchanted so no one evil could use it, the villains and heroes going to high school in the same place even though their kingdoms weren’t united by then and each of them had storylines on their own, Castlecoming not happening at all), it just seemed like the producers didn’t even care about learning the Descendants universe and lore.
P.S.: Couldn’t we just have new VKs and AKs as well? Why reuse Cinderella’s kids or Ursula’s family members? And no way Hades and Maleficent were followers of Ursula’s BABY SISTER. A god and the most powerful evil fairy in the kingdom wouldn’t follow around a freaking octopus

the answer to like all of this would have been for Red and Chloe to comfort Bridget after the prank, The queen of hearts literally makes note that Ella was with Charming during the whole thing AND Ella says Bridget has no friends. Showing that Bridget had people in her corner after the whole thing would have still allowed the prank to happen, see castlecoming and also helped her character. The problem wasnt that she was so angry at the prank, it was that she was ALONE, love (platonic) failed her when she needed it most. Have the VKs already have the book too, they can’t stop the prank, only mitigate the consequences, ALSO they had Morgana’s son was right there, use him, he looked cool.
Additionally, the “golden rule” in musicals is when you can’t speak it, sing it, you can’t sing it, dance it. Love Ain’t it, (as much as i liked it) Love is sweeter, and Shuffle of Love (+ the remixes) were unnecessary because they lacked motivation and meaning, two of them literally paused the story in its place
Red should have introduced Red and Chloe- maybe shown a difference in their lifestyles and act as an “I want” song for the both (bc we learned what they wanted… through dialogue when it should have been a song); What’s my name (red ver) should have been much shorter, only a chorus to intro Uma to the crowd and serve has a callback; Fight of our lives could have called back to Red with the two dynamics and merged them at the end (the emotion built up enough for them to sing, not talk); Perfect Revenge is actually one of the two I think they got right, the VKs were so mad they can’t say it so they sang it; Get your hands dirty did it well too, Chloe just wasn’t listening to Ella so she appealed to the way Chloe grew up, singing
Also move some parts of the story around… pls, it went: Uma and FGM, Red -> Red and Mad Hatter guy, Chloe + parents, Red and mom -> orientation, back in time, present. Start the intro off on both Red and Chloe (SET THEM UP EARLY), Uma and FGM want to include wonderland, Red and Chloe at orientation meeting, bluh bluh Queen of Hearts takes over, past, present. There was too much time in between introducing the second main character Chloe
TLDR; make it to Ella wasn’t there when Bridget needed her most, honest human mistake, she’s not evil, she (just like most ppl) put romantic over platonic love. Make Morgana’s son the main villain, he’s new and he has an actual connection to both magic and Merlin. Using the “golden rule” in musicals, they only needed like 4 songs. Can’t talk? Sing. Can’t sing? Dance

My Review: Horrible movie, chole is more of a disney channel show/movie actor rather than the acting that was needed for her role. Also she can’t sing and that autotune sound horrid. The songs were bad and the lyrics were interesting to say the least. Also the talking instead of singing during songs was not it. The wigs 💀. Why was it so short??? It didn’t feel descendants at all. I love kylie from her disney show and ruby from hers and that mixed with my love for descendants is the only reason I watched this but it was so disappointing 😔 (my genuine question is was there a major difference in budget with the movie compared to the others because it looks like it 💀) also I agree with everything you said

It would have made much more sense for them to for 1 thing actually show us the dance, and 2 show them still somehow pranking her even if they don’t have the cook book, there are so many ways to bully/prank people, and then they have to accept that they failed, OR they go back again and again and fair every time and then finally go back to their timeline and red actually just confronts her mom and they actually LEARN SOMETHING and the mom realizes that she’s wrong and then has a change of heart. Also they’d have to get there a little before to make sure Cinderella doesn’t die of course.
Also this is a personal thing but I really wish that Chloe wasn’t just Cinderella’s daughter😭.
I’m the first scene when Red gets grabbed by the hook thing I was PRAYING that it was “the blue haired girl” and she was like, the queens of hearts sister’s daughter, or the mad hatter’s daughter, or the RABBITS DAUGHTER, I wanted her to be a nerdy invented with some kind of quirk, like she’s a little mad, or she’s strict with schedules… or even still that she’s a goody two shoes like the queens of hearts sister in Alice in wonderland😭 I’m really disappointed she’s just fricken chad’s sister and Cinderella and charming’s daughter and she grew up in a perfect family and is purely goody two shoes with no other interesting factors about her character. Maybe its also fun to read how the real Alice in Wonderland is like its a very good book imo. And then also play a game like Alice Madness Returns. That horror game just.... Knows how to handle Wonderland from the original story the best. Its a shame EA didnt put more effort in it.

See, I had never heard of ever after high until after descendants. And I don’t see the 3rd movie as being targeted to children as there’s a proposal and then Ben and Mal flirting when they reunited. And we already had a 4th descendants with the animated one where they fully show a pocket watch and white roses painted red so anyone who knows about Alice in wonderland would know the next movie is connected to that story
I agree with everything said but I just have to add one more thing that bothers me so much. VK stands for villain kid and when they called the main villains in this movie vk’s it made absolutely no sense as these are the villains, not the villain’s kids.

Honestly I believe that actually Ella was the one who actually pulled the prank on Briget. Here are my reasons: 1. First when Bridget was like “Just a few more treats and they will be” Ella literally gave a LOOK if you know what I mean 2. in the song “Love ain’t it” QoH goes “they are all two faced and too fake” but Uli was already mean so her pulling a prank doesn’t make her fake 3. even if Uliana got the book (like they did in the film) they all got permafroze so like she couldn’t of pulled the prank 4. Ella wouldn’t tell Chloe about it - and if she didn’t do it she has no reason to keep it a secret; She was like “Don’t dwell on the past” and like Chloe wouldn’t share secrets so like she has no reason to not tell Her OWN DAUGHTER unless she was embarrassed and guilty about it That’s my Theory What do u think?
I agree with you on this movie messing up the timeline of not only the descendants world but also the villains fairytales stories. i like their wardrobe but this suppose to take place during ancient times not 20-25 years before rise of red when auradon was born 30 years before ( unless I did the math wrong is before the events of the past with the queen of hearts) so the cloths shouldn't look like that.
Descendants already been tricky with the timeline because villains like Cruella would exist way after the magical era existed or in another dimesntion without magic.
I thought this movie would go for the old formula but it doesn’t and even more boring. What I would change is that Morgie should be Madame Mim because Morgie never appeared in the Disney universe. He looks like a random character. I want Cinderella be the villain too. It can be a contrast for her and Bridget. Cinderella calling it’s a silly prank really hints she did something but no. The ending, because Bridget doesn’t get pranked anymore. So Red will disappear in pixie dust and Chloe would be worried. Then she travel back alone and meet the new Red. It can start a new sequel smoother because the Red now has no idea who’s Chloe.
2 years after this movie, they came out with the royal wedding (Mal and Ben’s wedding) which was to honor Cameron. And at the end of the wedding they said “this is what happily ever after looks like for us” “but somewhere else it’s just beginning” and then it went into a rabbit hole with white roses painted red. You can definitely tell they weren’t planning on making a 4th movie until a couple years later
I loved ever after high and monster high and I wish ever after high continued but I really do love descendants and well “too many songs” is well because it was a musical after all. And for the first movie I really did like it I liked how they showed how the vks was afraid of their parents but soon learn they don’t have to be. They have each other and they’re nothing like their parents. Sure it might be ever after high but they’re very different and probably a Thousand shows/books/movies with the same plot. 2:48 I watched descendants 3 live and went back to rewatch it and the ending was very different. And I mean the ending said something like “this is the ending of my story but a new chapter is just beginning” so yes they been planing this movie for years. It might have been WAYYY different than they planned since one of the members died unexpectedly. And with people not wanting to continue it without him they had to find new people. And despite being very young during when these movies came out. Descendants two was way more relatable for me Mel feeling as if she don’t belong. And that she will forever be a villain and the only way to fit in was to changed herself using magic but when that backfired she went back to her old ways despite still being an outsider.and I didn’t like descendants 3 that much but them “switching up” within 3 seconds was in my opinion because Mel and uma became very close before hang and uma seeing Mel actually kept her promise. Was what made her “switch up” and like we are shown uma have a kind heart she just want revenge. And it also go in def on amber? (Forgot her name but sleeping beauty daughter) character she wasn’t the villain of the story at all. And let me explain why, imagine the daughter of the person who tried to k!ll your mother come to your homeland with her friends planning god who knows what. And within the time they’re there your boyfriend randomly fell in love with that same kid and decided to ask her out WITHOUT even breaking up with you first. And then you find out they was only here for the wand which can bring back the person who tried to k!ll your mother. (Now it’s wricked world) then after 3-6 months she randomly started putting spells on you ruining everything that you planned for. Then not only that (descendants 2-3) your grandmother is heavily disappointed in you for letting the prince marry someone else. And she even compare you to your mother “your mother could land a guy in her sleep” so now the guy you knew for years and was in love with is gone and your grandmother is disappointed in you for not become queen. She was just very stressed out and was pretty much belittled if she didn’t do something right. Yes, she could be selfish but that who she is. But she’s still not the villain of the story. I’m not if she but I want to talk about this 3:17 yes like I said before this movie was planned but the story was probably changed. I like this movie a lot it shows the need of freedom, wanting to be different from someone who seems to not love you, and the theme of time traveling and the unpredictable consequences. I do believe she learnt a lot during the movie. Red who lived as “the soon to be evil queen” rebels against her mother but once she go into the past she realized even the evilest of people could have been nice one time before being turned into a monster. And that people are two faced (Elia) she learnt she could be different from her mother and change history. It wasn’t like she was just “oh you can go back in time and change everything” she learnt to be herself 3:31 it’s a musical, but I really did enjoy the songs if you don’t like musical I DO NOT recommend descendents 3:49 there’s some songs here that wasn’t in the movie or was just used as background music. Something I really DO NOT like about this movie is that it is heavily implied that Elia did the prank yes, it might be different because chole got her grounded but still if that was the cast the story would still be the same no matter what. Why? Because she could have Snuck out. And to be far I listen to anything so that might why I love all the songs (minus “say my name red version”) I do think they should had given us at least a 20 minute break between songs 6:38 no because at least show us what happened 8:04 red and Mel is completely different but similar red always knew her mother was horrible and didn’t want to be like her. Unlike Mel, all she knew was steal, evil, be like your mother. Red and Mel both defeated their mother they both became something they wanted in red case she didn’t want to be evil and that what she got. For Mel she wanted freedom(like red) she wanted a new life, a new start. And that what she got she got the chance to start over because she is nothing like her mother. Meanwhile red changed her mother 8:48 yes, it is important but red mother was bloodthirsty she threw thing to kill her own child if she didn’t do as she says. Unlike Mel mother, Mel mother really did love Mel but would never show it because all she knows is how to be evil she don’t understand love. That why she turned into a lizards because “that how much love she had in her heart” 9:23 she tried to help chole save her mother even thought she could have left chole by herself, she tried to stop chole from fighting her mother because red knew her mother would kill chole too. She felt bad that her mother didn’t have friends and was being harassed, red go again the rules so she can prove she is nothing like her mother. So her way of getting the book was wrong but for the right reasons 9:46 of course! Red is her own character she hate following rules she don’t want to hurt anyone. But also she can be really bad at times or just out right rude for no reason she is not evil but she is not good she is like a morality gray character 10:05 it not just because she feel guilty when they went back in the past she looked really nervous and queen of heart wouldn’t hate her for no reason since they was best friends “their two faced and too fake” she was definitely talking about Elia. So the “big plot” made no sense 10:44 AND IT MADE NO SENSE IF THEY WENT BACK OR not she would still freeze (sorry for cap lock my tablet is lagging) 11:07 hades and Mel mother (don’t know how to spell her name) was differently there for the giggles since they didn’t help her at all but laugh instead to be honest I feel like this movie is more of a “no matter how much you love them, no matter how much you forgive they will always find a way to hurt you. You can forgive but not forget, you can forgive and still get pain in return, you might forgive but you will still be hurting” type stuff 13:04 also are we not going to talk about the fact chole hair is different everytime we see her? 13:33 I understand why red only wear red because of her mother rules but if they wanted her to rebel she would wear something different and chole didn’t need to look like a blue highlighter 14:10 it wouldn’t be 20-25 years ago because Ben and Mel would still be in school “Why?” Because Uma says “pls I was the leader of a private group when I was a Teenager” 1-3 is then when they was teenagers and this is before the school was named what it name during 1-3 14:10 (time stamp for me)
I totally agree with you on the music. Also, I grew up with Descendants, so when I saw the first 2 movies, I didn't speak English and they didn't translate the songs. I watched the new movie in English and I don't know whether it came out in other languages as well or not, but imagine being a 11-year-old who don't speak English watching this movie with millions of songs and "rapped" discussions. They won't understand anything! If the first movie were like this, I'm sure I wouldn't have cared about the second
