  • I recently filmed my friend Tony Z's event, Makers & Grinders sponsored by Fix Mfg at Troy Lee Designs in Laguna Beach. Troy Lee was hand-lettering helmets, Steve Caballero was inking one of his amazing drawings, Leo Spens, a local moto bike builder was showcasing a few bikes, Monti Smith from Deus Ex Machina had his surf/moto-inspired photography on display, Duke Aipa, from Aipa Surf, Steve Adam, and Agave Surf were also there showing off their rad surfboard collab. Epic night!

    Fun stuff. Loved the in camera transitions. Very nice color grade. You requested criticism, the only thing that jumped out at me is that your primary guy said a little too much. They always say “show don’t tell“ You could’ve got a couple of quick comments from Steve Caballero and the other presenters and put those comments under visuals of them drawing or doing their thing. But thanks for putting it out there,I enjoyed your presentation!

    Great tips - things i forget when on the job. I've used your 'transitions' but more for ID when the clip ends.I hadn't thought about using the actual movement as a transition, and it works well. Great job putting it all together.

    Watching this last minute for a gig I randomly accepted a few days ago - pretty nervous but I'm sure I'll learn some thing by the end of the night. Thanks for the tips, I'll have to take a couple photos! Unfortunately I won't be able to do 60fps due to it being a night show, but we'll see about the conditions...

      @@AdventureMuse Just finished, thanks for the encouragement! I got a LOT of little interviews and thankfully had a helping hand for changing lenses/holding cam. While things were super shaky (literally) at times, the event was super artsy and the people were so fun to talk to and film!
      The Rode Wireless Go IIs came in super handy for those quick interviews, indeed I learned a ton in a few hours! Thanks again for the words of encouragement! Must be strange to get comments like this on years-old vids :)

    This video makes me want to take a shot at filming an event (even though I'm not a filmmaker). Feels like it would be great on the job training for anyone trying to improve filming and editing skills regardless of their profession.

    • @AdventureMuse
      @AdventureMuse  Před 4 lety +1

      It’s fun and stressful and rewarding. I did learn a good amount. The next event (fondo) I had someone at the start finish filming and a enlisted a friend to fly his drone.

    • @RyanLawless
      @RyanLawless Před 4 lety

      @@AdventureMuse I can definitely see the relationship between stressful and rewarding being there. I am now considering volunteering at a race in my hometown come spring or summer to make a little promo film or something along those lines. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • @SlideWreckDan
    @SlideWreckDan Před 4 lety +1

    Planning ahead if you can do that, is super helpful on the edit! I personally try not to do both photo and video at the same time just so I can focus on not missing moments.
    One thing I try to do is to be intentional with framerates. When I take a 60fps footage and force it to 24 it just doesn't look very good so planning ahead helps with this and I can determine which shots need to be in 24 fps and which to be in 60.

    • @AdventureMuse
      @AdventureMuse  Před 4 lety +1

      Slide Wreck Dan - i thin it depends on movement. I was shooting at 120fps- for this event because it works well in a 24fps timeline, but most of my GoPro footage is at 60fps now. I watched an interview with Jessie Driftwood who breaks all the rules and his edits look amazing! What ever works!
