  • @maxburley4928
    @maxburley4928 Před 2 lety +58

    I like how he was raised in Michigan in the 1960s and speaks like he grew up in ancient Japan. Btw hes been lying about knowing Bruce Lee for years he claims that he met Lee through James Coburn and that he befriended Coburn after working with him on a movie. However Steven Seagal left for Japan in 1969 and didn't return until 1984 and Bruce Lee died in 1973 also negating the possibility that Coburn introduced the 2 in the fact that Seagal didn't start acting till 1988. The only time him and Coburn could have crossed paths is the Merv Griffen show in 1969. But 1969 was a busy year for Bruce Lee and I highly doubt he would have had time to meet a then 21 year old Seagal. Steven Seagal is 99 percent Bullshit and tho Coburn and Lee were friends I've never found any evidence for Seagal's claims about being a family friend and really close with Lee he even claimed the family called him when Brandon Lee died for advice.

      So the fact that Bruce Lee died in 1973 is an assumption. Or the fact that Seagal was 21 when when Lee died.Or the fact that his first movie wasn't till 1984 .And your also saying that he the fact he was born in Michigan in 1952. So all these facts are assumptions? Now as for what my point was. Yes it is possible that Seagal and Coburn befriended each other after the Merv Griffen show. But Seagal has gone on record numerous times stating that he returned to the U.S. in 1984 after teaching in Japan for 15 years. So dummy I ask you what's 1984 minus 15. I'll give you a hint it ends with 69. My assumption is that Seagal saw an opportunity since all parties both Coburn and Lee are dead that nobody is around to confirm or deny his story so why not boost his credibility by using Lee's name. And I've never been able to find a single interview with Lee's daughter or wife where they talk about Seagal at all.

    Jesse Enkamp A.K.A. the Karate Nerd is a great guy with a quality channel where he provides great information on traditional karate, kung fu, muay thai, MMA, history and connections of martial arts, etc. Quality stuff.
    His younger brother is a legit MMA fighter.
    Jesse obviously got a chance here to do an interview and train with one of the most notorious bullshido masters of all time, the king of laughable straight to DVD action movies.
    Jesse trolls Seagal several times throughout the video, as Steven also notices, and it is a lot of fun!
    And if I may add my own little observation: it is freakin' ironic that a man who had a crappy, ego-driven TV show titled Lawman, where he would pose as a deputy sherrif doing police work, says stuff like "I don't care about the law".

    • @eternalblues6792
      @eternalblues6792 Před 2 lety +15

      I love Jesse's channel and most of the videos he puts out, but I thought he was a little too uncritical about Seagal in his two videos. Of course you don't want to insult your host who invited you to Dubai and brought you in for a fancy, expensive dinner, but I was still a little disappointed by how there was no real review of the things Seagal presented. Maybe there will be more videos about it, but I really couldn't find any trolling you are referring to.
      All in all I'm conflicted about Jesse meeting Seagal and giving him a stage to promote himself. Jesse is a youtuber who needs the views to make money and making a video with someone like Seagal will make that happen - no doubt. On the other hand doing Bullshido is just part of Segal's notorious reputation. He lied about his background many times, told stories about how he was sought out by Ueshiba (founder of Aikido) himself, worked for the CIA, was a Navy Seal, met Bruce Lee through one of his (Seagal's) students and so forth. Then there are the many, many allegations about rape and sexual assault against women he worked with. Does Jesse really need to give a spotlight to this guy? TBH, I was kinda disappointed by that.

      I perfectly see your point and had similar feelings when I first saw the video. But I do hope that Steven Seagal is a thing of the past and not taken seriously by anyone other than the hardcore fans of his movies from the nineties exactly for the reasons you have listed.
      Whenever I see the man I know what's coming up: boasting, false modesty, obscure stories, generic oriental wisdom and the same 4-5 aikido moves he does all the time. I think the majority of people view him the same way these days.

    Aikido teachers also teach vertical punches because twisting punches are harder to grab. I took some Aikido when I was younger and all the sales pitches and complaint partner stuff is coming back to my memory.

    nice honest review! It's been said that Seagal actually paid MMA fighters like Anderson Sylva to show up and teach them stuff on camera to buy himself credibility that he won't get the hard way by actually fighting someone, then he claimed their winning moves lol....here he chose Jesse because he knew he and his brother wouldn't challenge him, and wouldn't comment negatively afterwards. Shout out to them for this great video where they mirror him exposing his egomaniac attitude without negativity.

    Often in sword fighting you WOULD take your opponent down and stab them through the gaps of their armor. And if one of the goals is to bring you to the ground, that means those Warriors HAD to know how to fight off of their back and how to prevent themselves from being taken down.
    Fighting has always been striking and grappling, this is true with the Spartans, men-at-arms, Knights, Samurai, etc. (formation fighting aside).
    Yes you have to be cautious, especially going to the ground, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't train and know what to do, in the worst case scenario and that also doesn't mean, that you shouldn't train to put people down there yourself
    P.s. Ramsey Dewey even once mentioned a quote that I like, from an old sword master "In rapier fencing, the better wrestler almost always wins. If neither man can wrestle, the stronger man usually wins."

    To be fair Segal was in the 70's or 80's in Japan and ran a dojo as a foreigner. He probably did face tons of racism and contempt by some Japanese martial artists who threatened him. He said no one followed through and that sounds believable. Also, back then they did not have tons of cameras like people do nowadays. And telling them there won't be money or anything seems plausible to say back then before he was famous.

    "Severed brainstem" Trauma induced. As a nurse I can confirm several kinds of trauma can induce this. Steven has a wide range in his dictionary. This kind of destruction was of course a goal in traditional jūjutsu for real physical altercations. And of course several fights end when one of the people involved land on the ground. Everything is not MMA. In MMA you dont worry as much (but of course alot) about your own safety. But in a real world altercation you tend to give up when knocked down.

    5:20 how you make up for this, is you turn your fist the other way. That way you can still get the twisting snapping motion. Bruce talks about it and so does Jack Dempsey (they both use vertical fist; Stevenstrangles knows this, but I mention it for other readers too)

  • @da1onlynickvicious

    I train vertical punches a lot..as far as my understanding of it goes you see mostly vertical punches in old bare knuckle boxing manuals so even though they’re not as explosive as snapping your punches I can hit the heavy bag full force with no problem with my bare knuckles ..that’s exclusively how I hit the bag..it may seem kind of dumb but it works for me..then again I’m kind of dumb so..take from that what you will lol
