@@mrmusicality994 what do you mean the show didn't confirm who started the fight? The white girl was the aggressor. Even if the black girl did steal the notebook, the white girl was the ones who put hands on first and you can say that and the white girl rl can make her case to the teacher after the fact. But again, even if it was vague, Bow made it about herself. Instead of being like and some weird race choosing thing. She easily could have been like "idk She claims her notebook was stolen but she also pushed first." or even I don't know. Turning it into some race picking thing was the main issue, and abstaining due to that reason alone is the problem.

As I child in the 80s I remember being in a class with a mixed race boy that alot of students (black and white) treated badly, but it wasn't because he was mixed. It was because they thought he was a weird and push over. I tried to be nice to him and he tried to flex on me. I guess he was trying to prove something to the students that treated him bad by talking rude to me and so I put him in his place (verbally that is) and once again he looked like a wimp in front of them.

To everyone who is having mixed babies or want mixed babies. Please start talking to them about the concept of race before they go to school. Or send them to a diverse school.. im so tired of this confused narrative with mixed people. Especially in the 80s when we had so many mixed people who were highly praised in the black community. Y’all need to stop teaching kids like theres no race or racism anymore. Please start identifying your children as mixed or biracial. Even if their phenotype looks black theyre still HALF(aka Halle barry) If their phenotype looks more white like a megan markle then they could identity as mixed/biracial or even white. I would get this show if the kids look ambiguous but the only one who looks ambiguous is the little blonde one.. the other two look mixed. Rainbow picking a person who started trouble shouldnt go into a deep thinking about race... yikes

Well said. Can’t spell America without race.
For parents of color raising their children, the act of being othered by a white society, being questioned, scrutinized, handled - these things are not new. But, for white mothers who have grown up as a part of this system, being - perhaps - intellectually aware, but viscerally untouched, this othering of their own children, their flesh and blood, serves as a gut-wrenching awakening.

That's actually full of shit. It's taken what how many years since the 1960s were they made it where people that were white and not white could get married to see one to 3% of people on the census that identified as mixed or of multiple different races. where I lived, you didn't see any mixed children unless they were white and Native American Maybe they might be white and Mexican. But white and black you definitely did not see that even in the 90s and early 2000s. It hasn't been a thing where I lived except in last 10 years. there were 3 children I knew that were mixed white and black and they were brother and sister and the other girl was their cousin. And the white people and the Mexicans at our School accepted them but but the black people didn't except the brother and sister (because they were raised around mostly white people). If they start talking about things that both of them liked that say was associated with being black according to them they would get like yelled at and say you ain't black don't try to even be like us. So they were always being forced to be white. Until the racist white people that went to our school started calling them the n word people that had both black parents would step in and say what did you call them and kick the crap out of them. But yeah they were pushed and pulled between being black and white they were never fully accepted in our school. But now the last 10 years it has become more common. So it's seen as not such a big deal.

Even then mixed people had privileges because they were kept inside, treated less harsher etc. mixed people are a common thing especially in the 80s. Debarge, prince, were considered black even when they were biracial. Theres tons of mixed people i can list in the 80s who arent just black/white.

People can take it as a simple misunderstanding or someone being the bad guy, but because they are of two different colors, their going to assume it as a race thing. If it was two white girls arguing or two black girls, then they could have cleared it and moved on with their day, but because they were of different race, whoever she chose to point out first, they would think she was favoring that race. If she said the black girl was in the wrong, the white people would assume she was on their side and the black people would assume she hated her black side and wanted to be white. If she blamed the white girl then the same thing would have occurred, boxing her into one race despite being from both.

Just to clear things up. I was born in 1994, and these identity issues are still relevant for many mixed people. Obviously it’s a sitcom and generalized, but what sitcom isn’t? But the idea of having to choose a race isn’t just an 80s thing. All throughout school, I had to identify as “one of the following” not “all that are applicable to you.” Plus I’m not only black and white, I’m also Hispanic, so ya know. People have dimensions and society is slow to pick up on understanding that. Just saying cause these comments are kinda not seeing the point.
