Today we look at Giovanni now this song generally does having singing in it but I was told to check the instrumental first and damn was it FIRE.

    Band-Maid is one of a handful of bands who can astonish with something totally unexpected.
    When you consider that this brilliant instrumental is partially buried under Saiki's and Miku's vocals (which are just as brilliant as the instrumentals) "Giovanni" is one of the most impressive pieces I've heard from Band-Maid. Both versions are BRILLIANT.
    Akane shines here. She and Misa just FLOW in that drum and base section and it's even better when Saiki and Miku are chanting along with it! But that's why we all love Band-Maid: each member of this band *SHINES* in every piece. You have to listen to a Band-Maid song multiple times, focusing on each part, to appreciate what they're doing. Each song is a carefully crafted jewel where each member weaves into a sonic tapestry.
    I would love to hear them describe how they wrote "Giovanni", if there was any deviation from their typical process, and how Miku and Saiki approached the lyrics.

    Remember that their shows are 2+ hours long, their energy is insane! "Giovanni" is a great track, I love both versions, Saiki's vocal delivery is fantastic.

    I’m an old Rush fan. Spent 8 hours a day practicing bass in my room as a kid pulling Geddy Lee’s lines.
    I’m still working on this one. I can’t wrap my head around all the changes. Can you imagine being asked to cover this? 😱

    A progressive masterpiece.
    It incorporates elements of classical, jazz, rock, punk and blues.

    I heard the lyrics version first and that's the "proper" one in my mind - but it is very dense and I understand why others like the instrumental version best. They both work equally well as compositions, so I guess I don't really have a favorite.
    The lyrics refer to a classic Japanese fantasy novel written about 1927 by Kenji Miyazawa and published posthumously in 1934. Giovanni is the main character of *"Night on the Galactic Railroad"* (銀河鉄道の夜, Ginga Tetsudō no Yoru), sometimes translated as "Milky Way Railroad" or "Night Train to the Stars," or other ways. It was adapted as a manga in 1983 and a very popular anime in 1985, plus stage shows and an ebook. The anime from 1985 might be the basis for Miku's lyrics. Giovanni is a lonely boy with a sick mother and a busy father. He has one friend, Campanella. The story touches heavily on the theme of self-sacrifice for the good of others.

    As you may have already noticed, the vocalist SAIKI is singing on this instrumental.
    It proves how awesome it is.
    Once you understand that, you will understand that SAIKI is the conductor of the band.

    Muscle memory? MISA, the bass player, said in an interview that she compose her part on keybord (she's been playing keys since the age of 4…), to prevent muscle memory hampering the composition. She then works her way to make it on the bass.
    Akane, the drummer, scores her part, and, as she said in a resent interview, sees the score in front of her as she plays…

    To me they're like two different songs almost. Love them both. The one with lyrics is my favorite, but listening to this so I could really here what was going on beneath it just made me appreciate the composition even more. I love songs that challenge me as a listener.

    The lead is harder to hear with lyrics. But once you hear the instrumental then it is easier to hear the lead because your ears know what to listen for

    Quite a few bands don't have so many details, variations and/or variety on an entire album as these ladies put into one song! ❤‍🔥🤘🏻

    When Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin saw them live. He said that the drummer Akane is like an reincarnation of John Bonham...
    He met Akane backstage and told her how impressed he was of especially her. But also of the whole band...
    Quote..."How can they be so damn good ???!!!"
    He said...

    Believe or not, Akane plays crazy chaotic songs maybe 5 in a row with no issue, throwing in mid tempo groovy songs and magic spell time after that and comes back to playing some more crazy songs again. Her drumming is so creative no matter how fast the songs are. You are right. Akane is the driver.

    Can we give it up for Miku? Considering she didn't even pick up a guitar until, say, 10 years ago, and now she's playing this, and this song wouldn't be possible without her foundation. Major props!

  • @elevown
    @elevown Před rokem +1

    I think really you should do the album version with singing first- THEN the instrumental will help you make more sense of it if its too much for you. And preferably both back to back.
    I tink the album version with singing is a much better song- but the intrumental version is great too - and really helps to understand such a busy song.

  • @britwill72jp
    @britwill72jp Před rokem +1

    The thing that amazed me the most is that when you listen to the vocal version you realise that the guitar riffs are so low in the mix that you can't hear them clearly. Then you realise that her intention is just to serve the song. Songwriting comes first. Showing off her skills and technique is a low priority. The same thing happens with the bass player and the drummer. You should listen to their instrumental versions of all the songs on an Unseen World album.
