  • The classic film of Frank Dye's sail from Scotland to Norway via the Faroes in his Wayfarer, Wanderer, a 16-foot open dinghy, a boat that is now in the British Maritime Museum.

Amazing to see Frank and Bill on film. Having followed Franks adventures for many years.
I met Frank on his first sailing adventure as he landed his hornet sailing dingy on the south side of Hornsea beach.
I was one of the kids who hung onto his bow and had baled out his dingy cockpit as he returned with his hamburger.
I too was inspired to cruise in small boats and have done all my life.

I am reading Dye's book on his North Pacific cruises right now. What a way to spend your two week's "holiday".

The same feeling but a smaller scale to Beyond the West Horizon.

Thanks for posting this video, I watched it somewhere else online a while back and can't get over what Frank and his crew achieved with Wanderer. I can throughly recommend his book on this voyage plus his other offshore trips including sailing to Iceland. Edge of your thwart stuff! Truly a case of wooden ships and iron men...

Epic. I can't imagine how hard it would be to right a capsized heavily loaded wayfarer in force 9 gale.

and that's why i'm a land lover ;-) that force 9 gale looked terrifying to be in. kudos to the gents for achieving that journey.
