THERE IS A PLUS SIDE TO KEEPING THE AUTO SCREEN CHANGE TURNED ON!!! So I'm a big fan of the feature where you can customize your "Screen Off Image." I have a few custom images i put together on photo shop. When you set a picture to the "Screen Off Image" and then turn the screen off through the display menu, of course it will display said image. NOW HERE'S THE COOL PART...say while you're driving you want to adjust the clinate/audio/etc... you press the corresponding button to bring up the desired menu... and when you are finished and no longer interact with the screen... a few seconds later the screen will revert to your "Screen Off Image." I know its a pretty basic feature (all things considered) but i LOVE being able to have a "screensaver" versus a constant nav screeb that I dont really use since... ya know... smart phones... it really allows you to "make YOUR car YOURS."
Bob, Great content! I discovered that the small black fog lamp housings on each end of the lower front bumper of any GX from 2014 - 2022 can be updated to more stylish Blackline Edition housings with these two part numbers - 52030-WY020 & 52040-WY020 (new left & right housings - Cover Assy, Front Bumper). They look good, are easy to install & inexpensive, and are just another detail that will make your GX stand out. Keep the tips coming!

Hey Bob I followed your steps on how to change the default screen on the gx 460 display from something other than the nav screen. It works to make it the audio screen, but why won’t it work if I want it to default to the Home Screen?

Outstanding, Bob! I have 2018 GX and was subscribed to Enform services like remote start/stop, SOS, and others. Lexus cancelled subscriptions in October, 2022 blaming cellular providers for leaving the 3G standard. I’ve called my dealer, as Lexus recommended, and they don’t have a timeframe for a fix, or if ever. Stellantis has a fix for their owners using a OBD dongle to allow owners of older vehicles to use current services. Fo you know of a fix for us 2018 and older owners? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
Good morning Mark. I do not know of any current fixes as of yet. Many folks have gone to cheap plug and play systems using the OBD interfaces which i also don't recommend due to them not completely communicating with the oem security system in its entirety. I'll cover that in another video.

Thank you bob, now can u solve the remote start BS? My 2022 and my Toyota Tundra engine shut off right when I grab the driver door handle to get in, I then have to restart my vehicle again.
Gemini, most all remote start systems have an additional output wire called the factory disarm (check your remote start wiring diagram). This wire automatically sends a pulse to your Lexus OEM security system disarm input (same wire to unlock your doors). There are 3 possibilities here. 1. Your aftermarket system is a plug and play which most likely doesn't have this option. 2. Your installer didn't connect this wire. 3. Your installer didn't program the remote start to pulse 2 times since the Lexus OEM disarm input requires 2 pulses to disarm your vehicle. Try hitting your unlock button 2 times before entering your vehicle as a test. This is a very common problem a lot of people are having when picking up systems such as 12voltsolutions i'm hearing.
Bob, I see your response but I'd also love to see a video breakdown of how to prevent the car shut down for the gx upon unlocking. Much love from the east coast
@@deflamrek I have made an attempt to ask 12voltsolutions to send me a sample unit so that i can solve this issue for them. They have denied my request. Plan B was to actually create a diagram and go thru the steps without having the physical part on hand but i would have nothing to conduct my tests on to work out all the unforeseen issues which would be a total waste of time.
i almost said something to that effect but i would have an entire group of M.A.D.D. coming after me to shut down my channel. Trust me, i thought long and hard about that joke. lol.
I was going crazy about the screen switching back to the map, I even thought the system had a glitch. Thanks man . Also....I always wondered what if a cop pulls up to my driveway as am sipping on a beer or wine in the car and while in the drivers seat? Private property right? I can tell him to bug off and be fine? oh the questions that keep me up at night 🤪.
Not sure what state or country you reside in but cops in California don’t bother anyone anymore because they lose their jobs for every little thing anyone posts on the internet nowadays. 🍷
It would be great if there is a way to default//time out to audio. So I can look at the other screens and then after 15-30s of idle then screen kicks back to audio. Since that is the one I use the most.
Mike, now you're just asking to redesign the system to accommodate one person, maybe two. I wrote to corporate and asked for them to redesign the emissions system to include a detachable catalytic converter in order to carry it with us into work but they never replied.

Hey. I would have no way of testing this out for you without physically being there but the first thing i would do is find out through your HOA if you can open up the gate motor cover in order to access the programming button. Then research the namebrand of that gate motor and follow its pairing sequence. Not all community gates will allow you to do this for security reasons.

I agree, but its also one the most expensive mods and one of the least stable to do. Most of the upgrades are coming out of china (alibaba) and seem to not have all their gremlins figured out entirely yet. Wouldn't it be cool to see if a 2022 center dash fit?

Mr Bob, my 2019 Lexus GX460 screen keeping restart, I got 2 advices, one is unplug the power cables, and plug it back 45mins later, start the engine and the sysem will reboot, one is take out the SD card before start the engine, when the screen come and put back the SD card let it reboot, sadly, this 2 actions doesn't help, do you know what is the problem, is it the SD card data damage or the radio head unit need to replace, do you know what is the cost of either one, thanks for your adsvice.

Battery was replaced it and when we crank it up, the screen display will not come back on and the radio power and tunning knobs lights flash when the headlamps turn on. Can you help me understand this issue
Reboot your navi system. 1. Disconnect both battery terminals. 2. Leave the battery unplugged for an hour. 3. Reconnect your battery. 3. Press the Start button once to turn on the accessory without starting the truck which requires you to not step on your brake pedal during this sequence. 4. Press the PWR/VOL button to turn on the Radio 5. The Navi screen will show a loading sequence . Once this completes the system will reboot and the display be back to normal.
Do people not know how to do this? That is one of the first things I learned when I got my GX. I spent a good amount of time playing around with all the buttons and settings.
Have you ran Into the issue or heard of 2021 Lexus gx 460 showing a black screen when connection iPhone via usb. Audio plays fine but there is a black screen. Bluetooth seems to work. Still showing all the audio information including album art. Already tried a different cable and reset iPhone.
Yes i've heard some versions of it. Some said a software update was required and others say a hard reboot by disconnecting your battery for 15 minutes worked. I haven't had this happen to me so i can really diagnose it.

My 2010GX screen is half one color half another. Pixels or whatever have completed faded out on the bottom portion. Would love to see a replacement video of that. From what I understand it’s a pretty common GX issue and you can get a new digitizer on eBay. Please tag me if you do bc the only video I found was on a Lexus 350
My digitizer has been screwed for a year. I ordered a new compatible (hopefully) one from Aliexpress for $39. Im going to replace it myself next week. Ill let y’all know how it goes. BTW there is a company that sells the OEM digitizer for $199.00 on eBay. Very very nice folks! If I don’t have success with the cheap Chinese digi or if it’s not the same as my original or if it’s questionably compatible ill bite the bullet and spring for the $199.00 one. My GX is a 2012.

Hey Tommy, i can't assume anything for the 2022 will be the same as a 2014-2019 since i have never owned that particular year. I suggest you go directly to the manufacturer's website and input your year, make, and model to get the proper lightbulb fitment for your 2022.
Do you know how to setup the GX so that it doesn't automatically start playing content on your phone when you start the car? It's the most annoying thing about these GXs. I can go out and warm up the car and my phone isn't even in the vehicle but it will connect and start playing a podcast. I can have the audio in the car off so I get in and don't hear that it's playing and later on realize that it's been playing the podcast for however long. We have 6 cars so we've had to delete our phones from the GX and then resync them when we are driving it if we want to listen to audio from our phone. So is there a way to keep our phones all synched to the GX but NEVER have it autostart, or auto connect and disconnect our bluetooth earbuds. We want to be the ones to decide when the GX plays our music and not the f'ing GX. Thanks!
Yes there is a way. But first let me ask you since there are several key factors....do you have Apple or Android? Do you have Carplay? What year GX do you have? I would like to set up a step by step for the rest of the folks out there. Thanks for the suggestion.
What about those of us with cameras? If we turn off the auto switch- does that mean the screen wot show us the parking cameras when stopped at a light or low speeds?
This only applies to the switch between Audio and Navigation screen as a home screen function. All other "triggered" screens should still activate as usual.
Hey Bob, I’m having an issue with my radio on 2018 gx460. The screen is showing the logo and I can’t play the radio or any music from my phone. Lexus took a look and are saying I have to replace the radio which will be $3-5k please help
I hardly believe the radio of a 2018 already took a dump but try this step first. Reboot your navi system. 1. Disconnect both battery terminals. 2. Leave the battery unplugged for an hour. 3. Reconnect your battery. 3. Press the Start button once to turn on the accessory without starting the truck which requires you to not step on your brake pedal during this sequence. 4. Press the PWR/VOL button to turn on the Radio 5. The Navi screen will show a loading sequence . Once this completes the system will reboot and the display be back to normal. If it’s still not working then here’s your opportunity to install an aftermarket Tesla or 2022 screen for around $1k
But when you switch to audio, does it stay on audio or does out revert back to navi. The main purpose is to not default back to navi 10 seconds after you choose a song on your audio screen. Do you understand?

Uncle Bob, is there a way to increase the daytime backup screen brightness? I find it difficult to see and have to shade it with my hand.

I found the brightness control in the settings menu and set it to max which helps a lot., thank you.
Have you ran Into the issue or heard of 2021 Lexus gx 460 showing a black screen when connection iPhone via usb. Audio plays fine but there is a black screen. Bluetooth seems to work. Still showing all the audio information including album art. Already tried a different cable and reset iPhone.
Yes i've heard some versions of it. Some said a software update was required and others say a hard reboot by disconnecting your battery for 15 minutes worked. I haven't had this happen to me so i can really diagnose it.
@@GXBOB I will try the hard reboot. I have super busy work schedule . Makes it difficult to take in to the dealer for a small issue like this. I will try this out see if it helps. Thank you

i have been leaving the auto screen change off since day 1 and haven't had an issue yet.
i have a 2015 gx. when i turn on the car and the LEXUS logo pop up on the infotainment screen, it doesnt make that beautiful chime sound like yours. is there anyway to turn it on or is it something they put into the newer models? thanks!
That chime you’re referring to is my Nexar dashcam.

My 2010GX screen is half one color half another. Pixels or whatever have completed faded out on the bottom portion. Would love to see a replacement video of that. From what I understand it’s a pretty common GX issue and you can get a new digitizer on eBay. Please tag me if you do bc the only video I found was on a Lexus 350

My digitizer has been screwed for a year. I ordered a new compatible (hopefully) one from Aliexpress for $39. Im going to replace it myself next week. Ill let y’all know how it goes. BTW there is a company that sells the OEM digitizer for $199.00 on eBay. Very very nice folks! If I don’t have success with the cheap Chinese digi or if it’s not the same as my original or if it’s questionably compatible ill bite the bullet and spring for the $199.00 one. My GX is a 2012.

That chime is my dashcam, not Lexus.

Hey Tommy, i can't assume anything for the 2022 will be the same as a 2014-2019 since i have never owned that particular year. I suggest you go directly to the manufacturer's website and input your year, make, and model to get the proper lightbulb fitment for your 2022.
Do you know how to setup the GX so that it doesn't automatically start playing content on your phone when you start the car? It's the most annoying thing about these GXs. I can go out and warm up the car and my phone isn't even in the vehicle but it will connect and start playing a podcast. I can have the audio in the car off so I get in and don't hear that it's playing and later on realize that it's been playing the podcast for however long. We have 6 cars so we've had to delete our phones from the GX and then resync them when we are driving it if we want to listen to audio from our phone. So is there a way to keep our phones all synched to the GX but NEVER have it autostart, or auto connect and disconnect our bluetooth earbuds. We want to be the ones to decide when the GX plays our music and not the f'ing GX. Thanks!
Yes there is a way. But first let me ask you since there are several key factors....do you have Apple or Android? Do you have Carplay? What year GX do you have? I would like to set up a step by step for the rest of the folks out there. Thanks for the suggestion.

What about those of us with cameras? If we turn off the auto switch- does that mean the screen wot show us the parking cameras when stopped at a light or low speeds?
This only applies to the switch between Audio and Navigation screen as a home screen function. All other "triggered" screens should still activate as usual.

Hey Bob, I’m having an issue with my radio on 2018 gx460. The screen is showing the logo and I can’t play the radio or any music from my phone. Lexus took a look and are saying I have to replace the radio which will be $3-5k please help
I hardly believe the radio of a 2018 already took a dump but try this step first.
Reboot your navi system.
1. Disconnect both battery terminals.
2. Leave the battery unplugged for an hour.
3. Reconnect your battery.
3. Press the Start button once to turn on the accessory without starting the truck which requires you to not step on your brake pedal during this sequence.
4. Press the PWR/VOL button to turn on the Radio
5. The Navi screen will show a loading sequence . Once this completes the system will reboot and the display be back to normal.
If it’s still not working then here’s your opportunity to install an aftermarket Tesla or 2022 screen for around $1k

Good lord no. That is one expensive upgrade. Only way i would do that is if Lexus handed me one for free.

Hmm I guess the previous owner changed my settings already bc mine never auto changed. That would have been so annoying if it was on.

Everytime i shutoff car and start i still get maps on maine screen
The point is to not go back to the navi screen after you hit audio.
Hi Bob i did this but, everytime i start my car navigation comes on, even when i have climate last on screen, any idea why.
But when you switch to audio, does it stay on audio or does out revert back to navi. The main purpose is to not default back to navi 10 seconds after you choose a song on your audio screen. Do you understand?
