Whether Naya is a better singer than Lea is a matter of opinion. Although Santana can sing very well, she does not have a Broadway voice like Rachel does. She has more of a recording artist's voice. Therefore, Rachel was the best choice for the song & the role of Fannie Brice. Apart from having good acting, singing, & dancing skills, you have to have the right kind of voice & look for a particular role. Santana really should not have been cast as Rachel's understudy: she doesn't fit Fannie's character description at all
