The MOST Comfortable Tree Saddle For Deer Hunting!

  • In this week's Gear or Gadget episode we are doing a hybrid review on what we believe is the most comfortable saddle on the market for deer hunting. We also talk about linesman ropes, and scent control/cover scent products.
The saddle we are all hunting in is the Cruzr XC saddle.
    From Cruzrsaddles.com
"The CRÜZR XC is the signature hunting saddle for CRÜZR Saddles. The XC tree saddle boasts a pleated mesh Xpansion Chamber, that when opened, adds a next level degree of comfort and cupping for your backside.
The XC is equipped with: quick release buckles, a fixed static rope bridge, and two rows of molle loops. The top row of molle loops are loose for ease of clipping in carabiners and other gear. The bottom is a row of flat molle that works with all aftermarket molle accessories."
The Xtension Chamber as the call it is an extendable pleat system that allows maximum adjustability for a single panel saddle design. Compared tot he other single panel saddles we have tested, the Cruzr XC is far more comfortable for us.
There's no doubt this saddle is Gear.
Check their saddles out here: bit.ly/CRUZRXC
We also discuss some linesman ropes. Upgrading your linesman or tethr from the original you are provided may not seem like something you can benefit from, but we're here to tell you otherwise.
We are all running Sterling Oplux Ropes couple with Kong Duck ascenders. This combo is much lighter, more pliable, and easier to use than the traditional 13mm ropes that come with your gear.
Now, it is definitely a big price jump, but trust us, it's worth it. For us the Sterling Oplux rope is Gear.
    Sterling Oplux review: bit.ly/3aT1SGm
Lastly we are talking about cover scents. Simply put, cover scents are believed to mask your human scent so a whitetail buck can't smell you. However, contrary to popular belief, you cannot beat the nose of a whitetail with cover scents if you are upwind of the deer.
The best scent control/cover scent for deer hunters is simply the wind. If you are downwind from the target animal, he cannot smell you.
So, for us, cover scents are gadgets. We will spend our money elsewhere.

Great vid. Couple notes, the smaller rope with the descender is definetly not rated for fall arrest. DO NOT use as a tether. if used as a position line or linemans rope however, it is a game changer. also if you fall in your saddle without leg straps then expect to get injured. the leg straps + belt are what keep you from hitting the ground . Another note, if your straps are loose when you fall they can seriously injure your genitalia. Just some food for thought. Years of experience as a tower worker and multiple fall rescue certifications and I dont want people falling out of trees getting hurt.

The Overwatch saddles are the best built on the market. Nothing else touches them. Their Transformer and new Orion are easily the two most comfortable saddles built. The guy that makes them is a bit apprehensive to market hard so they are a bit under the radar but not unknown. You will not find a single person that has ever own one that has a complaint.

Thanks for watching! There’s a ton of great options out there. If you’re new to saddle hunting, I would treat it like shopping for a bow.... try as many as possible before pulling the trigger! Good luck

Should try Aerohunter Flex saddle, I think it is more comfy than the Cruzr XC

I normally leave work and head straight to the woods in my diesel fuel soaked boots and clothes and the deer don’t seem to mind at all. I think they are use to smelling that with the tractors and farms around.

I believe they speak highly of Nose Jammer because they are sponsored by them and it's used in B roll for there hunts. The best scent to use when deer hunting is none at all for consistent results. So many people in my area use conquest scents calming scent and the deer have conditioned themselves to that scent meaning danger and get nervous and leave the area everytime the encounter it.

I’ve got the XC and have owned a few others, the Phantom is the most comfortable for me, I’ve got many hours in both. Been saddle hunting for almost 20yrs now. Most them years were with a original trophy line ambush (not very comfortable but nothing else on the market). The phantom is the only one that gave me no side pressure and just super comfy, the XC is comfy but nothing like the phantom, I just feel there’s to much material on the XC and never got the comfort I needed, just my opinion.

Arm & Hammer non scented deodorant if you want a PRO TIP 😊....
PS The Pro is Mr. Andrae D’Aquisto 😆..... Apparently baking sodas only purpose is eliminating bacteria... so skip all the super costly gadgets just buy the generic Arm & Hammer everything (laundry soap, toothpaste, dial soap bar)

I bought a trophy line saddle last year . It's very nice and good quality but I didn't think it was comfortable for me at all. Tried it alot and just could never get comfortable in it. Just my opinion.
