  • Executive Order 9981 was an executive order issued on July 26, 1948, by President Harry S. Truman, which abolished racial discrimination in the United States Armed Forces and eventually led to the end of segregation in the services. The order's operative statement is:
It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion or national origin. This policy shall be put into effect as rapidly as possible, having due regard to the time required to effectuate any necessary changes without impairing efficiency or morale.
The order also established a committee to investigate and make recommendations to the civilian leadership of the military to implement the policy.

Lancashire had a thriving cricket league before WW2 and each club would have a professional player and the majority were from the West Indies. There's a good documentary about it on CZcams. So I'm thinking the Lancashire folk who were in awe of the size strength and skills of the professional players and made lifelong friends with them quite rightly saw the black GI's for what they were. Men that had travelled half way round the world to help us keep the Angry painter out.

That's the way it was in the 1940s. As it was in previous eras. Let's drop by the Roman Coliseum as white Christian slaves were fed to the lions. How far back do you wanna go?

Oh for goodness sake, what has the Romans got yo do with this.
This is about African American troops during ww2, and about how they were treated by their hatefilled narrow minded white compatriots, The US was supposed to be fighting nazism yet had a segregated military.
