- Come see what life is like on a submarine.
Charles, aka The Fat Man, shows you through the HMAS Onslow submarine in Sydney Australia. He'll share his experiences of what life is like in a navy submarine with you too.
You'll learn things about submarines nobody else but a Submariner knows!
Oh, and he'll tell you what he thinks about the Titan Sub. You know, the submarine disaster at the site of the Titanic. He doesn't hold back!
What do you think of this video and life on a submarine? Would you like to live and work in sub? Comment and say hello! We would love to hear from you.

I went through Onslow a few years ago, I can not comprehend how you guys could function in such confined and claustrophobic condition. No wonder Dolphins parade was such a big deal for submariners. Hats off to you all!
Thanks very much. It was a very enjoyable time in my life.
Waited 4 hours at Station Pier to tour on an ' open day '. 1983. Great boats.
Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks .
The kraken was shocked that I thought it was a place that I only had great memories of. She kinda thought it was a hell hole, while I just would have loved to go down the AMS and read a book (like on watch) or fire up the engines. I miss the order and routine that ruled our days, my mates and the shore runs. She will never understand as she only sailed on a chair in a boring office with coworkers not family.
Brings back soooo many memories. Luv Bones (ex-RE).
Served on both Vampire and Onslow as an Engine Room Artificer in the mid 70's and the start of the 80's. In fact, my only sea drafts. Both are museum pieces now, which says a lot about me. Was onboard when we had the engine run on (RIP Chris). DBF brother
Now I can fully understand why you had to stoop. Those doors are so low Charles! Back issues there. PJ was lucky to have you as a guide. Fascinating tips on items like personel matters and ckeaning out slops. Great fun. And yet you loved the subs.
I did love my time messing around in boats. Especially the guys, kings amongst men.
what an interesting life - thanks for the tour!
When i look back on my life I think that I have been extremely lucky. I have travelled allot and always had interesting work surrounded by great people. Now I am retired I miss the camaraderie of the workplace and I feel this channel and especially the people that subscribe plus comment give me the gift of some type of a supportive community. So while your thanks are appreciated I really should be thanking you 🙂.
Terrific tour. You should join the volunteer team at the museum.
Hey of course I would love to..unfortunately I can't afford to live in Sydney. If I could afford it I would be there like a shot as it truly is a beautiful interesting city wrapped around a gorgeous harbour
Really enjoyed the tour thanks Charles.
Excellent tour Charles 👍
I had the weirdest dreams after this. 😶
You always have weird dreams you weirdo.
Snake pit is the Sgts mess in the Army
Did the fat man serve in the Onslow sub? Awesome video!!!
Yes I did .....for years and years
That is awesome!! I haven’t been on a sub you have been on before. Makes me want to book a trip to Sydney to see it
@@megtrev850 you should book a trip especially as your partner is ex navy I am sure you could spend a whole day at the maritime museum at darling harbour. Also you could stay on Simon's boat and make the whole trip centered around boats.
You walked right pass the motor room without an explanation.
Left that for the greenies ........ did lift up the aft hatch to the lower motor room
That's because anyone who served on the 'O' boats knows that greenies don't really matter....LOL (joking!) I served on Oxley, Ovens and brought the Otama home ( on subs '75 - '80), never served on the Onslow. I did see it at Plats with the 'scope folded over backwards...that was the Onslow, right, after exercising with the Kiwis??
If this you "Sloth" ? I can pick your walk.
Yes! It's me. Guilty as charged. How are you?
