I understand drafting on upside but a lot of teams draft solely by how athletic a player is instead of "can this player play nba basketball?"
Also, at UCLA he was a star player but knew how to play alongside others and within a system. This is where many college players fall off in the league

He is the embodiment of my 2k career player. I Always loved to play as an underdog then after yr 2 or 3 he is already a star in the making. No disrespect to Kobe but he moves quite similar with the footwork. Plus he does not whine like any other players.

Steal? He’s great for sure and this is no knock against his game or talent, but how many teams in the NBA right now does it make sense to draft a 3-4 year college rookie to help build around. It speeds up the time frame on your rebuilding process, unless you’re a team in win now mode like the heat who have to maximize the production they get from EVERY roster spot. I wouldn’t say steal, I would say he fits perfectly with the heats plans.
Yeah, for sure every team has different timelines. He does fit perfect with the Heat. He was drafted 18th and is 4th in rookie rankings right now.

Knew it was a good pick when I saw how he'd post up people in the NCAA. So poised and fundamentally sound. Don't usually see such a developed post-up game from a non traditional big and you know smaller guys aren't great defending that. Solid defender and cutter and shooter. Not sure what exactly his ceiling will be but the floor was there from the start.
