I was genuinely scared of his Jaws character as a kid. But it was nice to see him in interviews like this - such a nice, well-read guy. RIP Richard
I met him at a convention when I was a kid. Even in his old age, he was enormous. He palmed my head like a mango. Cool man.
I have the same photo from when i met him at a con about 20 years ago. That grip was his thing at photo ops. Really sweet guy.
I don't think Dave was expecting Richard Kiel to be as articulate and sardonic as he was. It took Dave about two minutes to realize that this guy was someone that he could relate to. Wonderful guy. The gap in the teeth reference was genius. Dave didn't see that coming.
Love that dave was laughing heartedly
‘’And you can count on me waiting for you in the parking lot’’
😂😂😂😂 One of my favorite lines in any movie EVER! "That's two thus far, Shooter!"
A gentle giant.
"I'm one of your biggest fans" -- classic! 🤣
The other one about AA airlines and everyone drinking 😂
I'm shocked that he wasn't in a ton more of movie's (all genres) and more TV shows as well !!! He was a great actor and very funny and nice guy !!! RIP Richard Kiel
I'd heard about his sense of humor from people who worked with him. I've never seen an actual interview. It's a shame he didn't get many. He's entertaining.
Such an absolute gent and genuinely nice guy. ❤
What a sincere, fun and pleasant man he was. And in Happy Gilmore.
And - never judge a book by its cover.
He was a really smart and funny guy, and a big Dave fan obviously.
I always thought you missed out not making Big Dave, Little Dave as a tv series. lol. Rest in peace, Richard - always bought everything to his roles and was a sweet dude.
Megalomaniac Letterman would never consent to anything in which he was called "Little Dave" 😆
Richard Kiel played one of my most favorite villians!!!
Mr Larson in Happy Gilmore?
@@100hooker yeah... he was a hero in that one.
The best villain of all the Bonds. I always wanted to find teeth like that when I was a kid. 😆 🤣
I genuinely would have liked to have met Richard Kiel.
Anyone else remember near the end of Moonraker a blond pigtailed girl helps Jaws out of a jam and then she smiles and you see she has braces on her teeth, and he smiles at seeing that and they walk off hand in hand, well apparently in the movie she didn't have braces at all, but me and a lot of other people remember she did. That was the joke of the scene. But so ive heard all versions on VHS and DVD don't show her with braces. It's like the "Mandela Effect"
👍
Except the Mandela effect claims that there was some shenanigans or altered reality going on to explain the discrepancy. But the real truth is that memory is faulty, and you just always remembered it wrong. There is no ''alternate version.'' You just remembered it wrong. For the record, i've seen Moonraker countless times, on VHS, DVD, BluRay, 80's TV, and even on old CAD discs. I never remember her as having braces.
I totally remember! I was pretty young and it made a big (ha, ha) impression on me (I was less than 10). I was never really afraid of the "Jaws" character and I so wanted to be that girl with the braces. (why mom let dad show his two impressionable girls ALL the Bond movies at that age, I'll never know.) But then, I also remember the campfire "fart" scene they took out of Blazing Saddles and the movie "Song of the South" that seemed to disappear from Disney's movie list. Books and covers. Most people can never get past the "cover" part I guess.
@@trekkiejunkHence after the original release so after the scene was edited.
@@trekkiejunk The Mandela effect is simply the name given to the mass misremembrance of things, the "alternate reality" or "shenanigans" are just theories as to why the Mandela effect happens.
Richard Kiel was in the most famous episode of "Twilight Zone" called 'To Serve Man'.
Yeah he was something special.... Richard was funny as all get out in Cannonball Run with Jackie Chan as his racing partner. ✌️
Cannonball RUN 2
One of the few guests I can recall that actually put Letterman off his game because of how much different he expected him to be
He's hilarious. Dave needed to lighten up a bit.
You can see Richard reallly looked up to Letterman, partially for the gapped-teeth!
...and Richard didn't "look up" to ANYBODY!
Such a a likable guy. : )
One of the greatest interviews, I remember seeing it as a kid.
If Mr. Kiel ever pulls out a copy of the book “To Serve Man” - run!
Wow what a cool
gentle giant with a great sense of humor.
Oh you can count, good for you.
And you can count on me waiting for you in the parking lot!

You're going to need a bigger boat.
Richard Kiel did an original Twilight Zone and two great episodes of the classic, all-but-forgotten Kolchak The Night Stalker. Then thereafter, he was terrific in the James Bond movies. I miss him.
Pale Rider was a fantastic movie and he was great in it. One of my favorite westerns.
Somehow I missed seeing this when it originally aired, but a wonderful interview with the man.
I'm glad Richard is a good man
Loved his roles. I also have a gap!
Richard was the lead as Paul Bunyan in local kids TV show in Northern California for a year or two in the sixties, and did local appearances during that time.
Happy Gilmore liked this video no more than an hour ago.
It’s hardly noticeable.
@@100hooker thanks, Dr says it comes out next week 😂
Wow! Dave and Richard Kiel. That's totally rare and cool.
I remember when he was in the wild wild west. He plays michael Dunn's character henchman. What a pair. 😊 7:57
What a charming surprise of an interview! Great to see them having so much fun with the conversation. Mr. Kiel had some great lines that had me laughing out loud. :)
He was very kind and warm at a convention I went to many years ago. ❤
He was moderate in the estimation of his abilities and achievements. The unassuming Mr. Kiel never mentioned that from 1963 to 1965, he also worked as a night-school mathematics instructor.
Amazing guy ❤
Fan request: monologue from Shia Lebuff w Jimmy Eat World episode from 2010. You can see me in the audience in a beige jacket. 😁
great actor
Richard Kiel was very funny in The Longest Yard...
Smiles "He said he was sorry."
I saw Richard in the Denver airport back in 2006 or so and he was not in the best shape, he was a bit hunched and he needed two canes to get around but he was still enormous. Not just tall but all around enormous, his hands, his feet, head, everything. I said hello and he said hello back. Several people acknowledged him and he couldn’t have been nicer.
He reminds me of the tall man in Phantasm
I Believe that jacket belongs to Mr. Gilmore
I saw him sitting at a table signing autographs in a Los Vegas mall about 15 years ago. Actually, no one seemed to want his autograph. It kind of made me sad.
I recommend Moonraker great film.
@wilsonpereira6581 “his name is jaws, he kills people”
Hey I requested a tom waits video, please can that be next letterman team please :)
Richard Kiel: Twilight Zone: To Serve Man (season 3 episode 24).
Spooky, incredible performance - from Richard.
Great. Thanks, Dave.
2:58 Dave: Don’t remind me when I sip through mine…
He's taller than he looked in the James Bond movies!
Nice chap
Legend
I think Richard comes across as a really really lovely person who has probably had some self conscious insecurities in his life.. would love to talk to him without all the unfunny jokes about his size.
Later on his most Memorial role he deserves an Oscar for, The Crazy Happy Gilmore Golf Fan with Nail in his head
I remember him in “Silver Streak”
super nice guy
I met him when I almost purchased some land from him. HE'S REALLY HUGE!
Man, he looks so big in that little chair!
Wow, I knew he was tall, but not seven two.
Same here!
It's a cookbook!
It’s Mr. Larson!
Richard is just as witty and intelligent, as he is physically imposing.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha... I'm one of your biggest fan.
He looks like Letterman’s Hulk. He played the Hulk in the TV show pilot but was let go because he wasn’t bulky enough.
“trying to reach the green from here Shooter”?
Pale Rider could of been a great film. Eastwoods voice is so goofy in it.
Nice guy
Kiel was REALLY enjoying messing with Letterman. When breaking stereotypes breaks someone else's brain. Tbis is why I try not to judge people based on their physical appearance. There is so much more to anyone. Everyone. (watch Tracy Chapman's video of her song "Telling Stories" if you doubt the dangerousness of this practice. Anyway...) The space between the teeth joke was hilarious. I don't think Letterman even knew what hit him. Good for the guy with the big heart. ❤
I knew him from “Happy Gilmore”; it was my periodontist - who is way young than me - who made me aware of his role as Jaws!
He was great in an episode of the Monkees
In a strange way those two could be related or if David Letterman turned into his version of the HULK
R.I.P.
What Difference does it make? name the film. He was Fantastic in Pale Rider! Love that western.
Separated at birth: Richard Kiel and Aaron Judge .
He's been in almost every Adam Sandler movie too.
He’s so tall that they had to change the camera angles!
A prosthetic space. Nice
Admit it. Everyone wants to know about his love life. And yes, he’s a very nice person.
I believe that’s Mr. Gilmores
Do you by any chance have a clip of Dave and Harrison Ford riding horses on the street? I would really like to see it again since I am a Harrison Ford fan
I used to see him shopping at Ralph's on national bl in West la..you can't believe how huge he was later, and he had gained weight. Seemed nice ..
Dear dave ❤❤❤❤ hi
As a bouncer 7:07 use have to use your brain, not your braun! Awesome!
Funniest big guy🤘🏻, 😅😆😂!!!!
And so now I skateboard.....
Eegah!!
6:35 I guess Shaq caught this interview.
Richard could bite arnolds head off
I think he broke his freaking neck?
Eegah NOOOOOO
Giants are real....
Same haircut
Cringy
You’re gonna need a bigger chair.
Elvis impersonator, classic
