Exactly and not to mention Neil was in agonizing pain in his feet. I became a die hard Rush fan when I was 11 years old. I am now 55 years old. RIP NEIL
And that’s how Rush went out - with a bang! Most bands would give anything to put out material like this once in their careers, but here’s Rush doing it consistently for 40 years, right to the end. Cheers!

I always challenge people who say they hate Rush. I ask them well what type of music do you like? Rush is so talented they can play anything. They are 60 here and produce a heavy metal song that is better than most heavy metal groups played in their prime. Man they are great!

"This sounds just like the Foo Fighters"
Well spotted - the producer for the last two Rush albums, Nick Raskulinecz, also worked his magic on some Foo Fighter tracks.
Raskulinecz said in an interview: “I just tried to guide them. I feel like the first record we made was their kind of mid-80s/early-90s - we touched on that era of Rush. Then the last record we made was total 70s/ very early 80s-style Rush."
He probably did too good of a job on this one though. After recording it Rush realized that they had basically re-written their own 1975
track "Bastille Day". The band then reflected that it was OK to steal from yourself and went along with it.
"I was not expecting this at all" The beauty of Rush. Always evolving. Always awesome.
Geddy's bass on this album is something else.

This album, Clockwork Angels, was an excellent final chapter for Rush. They finished with dignity, and I think they knew this would be their last album. The Garden, BU2B, Caravan and The Anarchist are great songs from this album.
The first time I heard this song I thought it was a never released track from the 70’s. It instantly became a top 10 Rush song for me, it’s soooooo heavy.🔥🤘🏻
I saw Rush 18 times . You should have heard this at 115 decibels in concert. They're one of the best 5 bands in rock history !

Clockwork Angels is an amazing album! The book that accompanies this album, written by Neil, is also amazing!!!
Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl inducted, or as Neil would say, indicted Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, they were huge fans and friends of the band. Geddy and Alex both played in the tribute concerts to Taylor after he passed away.

Fortunate to see RUSH around 40 times live. Started with the Grace Under Pressure tour in Las Cruces, NM and ended it with R40 in Austin, TX. Their retirement and Neil's death left a huge hole in my life. Thank you for all the years of rockin!!
My count is somewhere in the low 20s, but didn't see them on their final tour, which in some way changes the hole in my life, and not necessarily for the worse. It's almost like I can say that I stopped on my terms instead of their more tragic one?

I got in on the Rush game late in their career because I was born too late (1990). However, I never missed a tour from Vapor Trails onward, often going to multiple tour stops. I took my wife to the R40 show in Dallas. It was her first and last Rush show. She knew they were my favorite band, but she wasn’t really into rock music. During “Jacob’s Ladder,” she leaned over to my ear and said, “I get it. I understand why you love this band so much.” That made my heart so happy.
I couldn't make that many concerts, but I could've shared air with you in Austin that night ... I lost a big part of my life when they stopped and Neil left ... Things will never be the same
p/g was my first tour as well. They skipped over us for Signals (no open venues)...and same about Neil. Still hard to talk about them in the past tense...
The Garden was the final song on their final release. Brings me to tears

I have been a fan of Rush since Moving Pictures when I was 10 years old. Saw them many times live . When they released this album ,my jaw dropped . Didn’t ever expect their Swan song to be a heavy as hell concept album.

You like heavy Rush? Check out their Counterparts album released in 93. Was back to basics following the 80s sound. Alex described the songs as thicker with more hair on them. Pearl Jam kept them from getting No1 on the billboards. Songs Animate, Stick it out, Cut to the chase, Alien shore, Double agent, Leave that thing alone, Cold fire.. BANGERS!
“What happened? What just happened?!” That is exactly what I thought when the last cello string was played on the Garden, the last song of this album. I sat for a good 2 minutes in silence understanding that I had just heard an entire album of perfection. I thought “ they can’t do anything else after this.” O thought I had heard the last studio album of theirs. Sadly it was true. But instead of wallow I hit play again and listened to it over and over. Great swan song magnum opus.
Damn fine album to end their career. Rush navigated the years so well evolving with the times.
Clockwork Angels is one hell of a final album for the fellas. But there's some stuff on Counterparts that's as heavy as anything they'd ever done (Alex said "what's up grunge? have some Stick It Out"), never mind coming out of their 80s era. And the album before Clockwork Angels is a straight up monster at times too, Snakes and Arrows. Later Rush had no fear of rocking right the hell out, I think a lot of people kind of forget that. Or just never knew! So it's cool to see people get off on it🤘🏼
The Foo Fighters were big Rush fans. Their last album was a great way to end a career on a high note. This song is one of the most energetic ones they ever did. It goes into high gear and stays there for over 7 minutes. It's wild!
🤗 I usually hear new Rush songs as they announce it during a show. "This is off our new Album...". 😳 I hadn't heard Rush sound like this since they opened for KISS! 😁 Hell Yeah! Then they performed 'The Garden' which again made me glad 🤭 I used Rent Money to see them. 😏 Not the first time..... 😁🥰🐰
Listen to Far Cry from Snakes and Arrows. Alex plays the Rush Chord, Esus7, if I'm not mistaken. It brings back memories of Hemispheres.
Great reaction!! This is my favorite Rush song of the modern era! It’s a total clinic from each of them.
The producer on this album had previously worked with Foo Fighters, and the Rush guys were fans of FF. And vice-versa: I saw Foo Fighters live in 2001 and they played part of Rush's "Cygnus X-1", to the great confusion of pretty much everyone in the audience but me.
The lyrics here came from something Neil's drum teacher Freddie Gruber said to him shortly before his (Freddie's) death. Neil himself had things in his life that he obviously didn't want to live through again, but to honor Freddie he wrote these lyrics.

It's a concept album with the pleasure (but dull read) of a book to explain the story.
So you are correct to say it sounds punk because it is a steam punk concept.

I always have to laugh when reactors say “wow, this is so heavy for Rush!” When the first 4 albums came out they were as heavy as anything out there. Guitar oriented hard rock seems heavy now. Production technology has made music seem harder over the years. Now, the synth years they were not hard, but still excellent songs and lyrics.
19th studio album and they pulled this amazing song...they still had alot of juice to give. But you know what from the same album I suggest that you look at The Garden ,live, from the clockwork angel tour.. this is their most beautifull performance. the last song from their last album. It's sums an amazing career and the meaning of the song.... total package deal
Rock bands will do a seriously cool riff for 8-12 bars and get tons of accolades from the music biz, while Rush will do a seriously cool riff twice as long and twice as complicated and never get a nod for it; except from fans and other musicians.
This song is straight fire. The whole album is really. One of their best imo.
A lot of fans forget their hard rockin’ roots. This whole album pays homage to every phase they went through. This song has a few callbacks like the riff from Bastille Day, the rap from Roll the Bones and their signature cadence after the guitar solo. (I can’t explain that one well enough).
The one thing you could always say about Rush, never the same thing twice! Even Neil would repeat a drum fill in the same song! Done that, now for something new! It’s probably one of the many reasons they had such a loyal and ever growing fan base without radio play! Different class!
The occasional riffs from other Rush songs through history was a nice addition.
I think the song for Rush songs is ok, but the video of the body suit divers was mind blowing one of the greatest daredevils I've ever seen.
This album was the perfect capstone to their career. It was almost as if they decided to make the Rushiest Rush album they could: an entire concept album where each of the songs stands on its own, has its own style, and reflects a different aspect of their musicianship and yet comes together to provide a coherent whole. It really feels like a summary of their musical thesis: here's everything our career has taught us on one kick-ass album.
Rush heaviest song ….” The Necromancer” …..You guys ….are missing out
I will second, third, fourth and fifth that. To me the jam in The Necromancer defined heavy metal. Name anything else in 1975 or before it that was even close. It is such an epic effing jam. They are all just going off beyond belief. And they were so young! What a great band.

This was Rush's last album. They returned to their heavier roots in their later years. One of my favs off the album.
Another one off the same album is Caravan. Rush went out with a bang!

This is the most "un-Rush" song I've heard in the 40-plus years I've been listening to them. The virtuosity of their music is unmatched, Geddy's voice was never better and the lyrics are so inspirational. No regrets, no excuses, no "what-ifs."

Whenever I hear someone say "from the get-go" I like to picture the gecko from those US insurance ads and ponder how whatever the subject of the reference was came from that Gecko.
It seems most appropriate in this context because of the absurdist humour the Rush guys poured into the film shorts they produced for each tour.
So, close your eyes and picture that little lizard with the British accent introducing you to Headlong Flight!
This was their best song of the last three albums, in my opinion. Also listen to The Main Monkey Business for a similar “kick ass” vibe. But you HAVE to listen to The Garden, the last song on this album and this the final song released by the band… and which is Neil’s farewell to the fans and the most beautiful song they recorded in their entire career. A perfect swan song.
This was not before Foo Fighters. It was on their final album from 2012. This album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who has produced teo Foo Fighters albums. Rush and the Foos were great friends, and the Foos dressed up as 70s Rush and played a tribute at their RRHOF induction.
I can think of no other band with the possible exception of the Beatles who ended their recording career so in their prime that people were begging for more. To also consider that these guys were nearing or at 60 is a further testament to the standard that they demanded of themselves. I will argue that the entirety of this album is as good as anything they ever recorded and is arguably their most complete album.
Such a great reaction as usual!!! Blessed to have seen this band 47 times from 1977 to 2015 i definitely am not one of those era choosers. I loved all aspects and styles of their music from the 1st album to this one! You will not find many bands with the type of musical longevity and musicianship this band sustained. Best band ever!!! Just my opinion
This whole album is a flawless gem. It's a concept album. The last song is called The Garden. Ironically, the best version of it is a live version. Look it up. Bring a box of tissues. No joke.
Neil is drumming faster than a hummingbirds wings at the 4:30 mark in the song!

Alex's solo on this gives my By-Tor vibes, but I am not sure why.
Their last 3 albums are all pretty heavy. (Vapor Trails, Snakes & Arrows, Clockwork Angels). For that matter, if you never heard them live, a lot of their older stuff, even the 80's synth stuff, actually sounds heavier live.
This is an amazing of an album as you would ever want to hear.
Try Lock and Key from Hold Your Fire. You'll be gobsmacked by Neil during the last minute or so. This really got overlooked.

saw them 6 times live - this tour was awesome, I loved this heavier album - 7 cities of gold, BU2B, and Caravan are also big hits on this album, hope you get around to listening to the whole album, this one and the one before (Snakes and Arrows) was their step toward more punk/metal.

Hey, you two… I’m enjoying the hell out of your Rush reactions. I’ve watched many, I guess they’re my current video crack. I love that you’re giving Lerxst the proper due… Alex is so fucking amazing and not nearly enough people give him his just respect.
Anyway, as a lifer of the band I’d like to throw a couple at you…
First, another from this album- you sir, need to take The Anarchist for a spin. Need to. NEED. I recommend the studio version simply because that album is a masterpiece from a production point of view. God, did they go out with a bang. You talk about how uplifting their music is… it’s because you’re riding the concussions of explosions.
From their darker side- The Pass. Of course, with them dark is a relative term. Their Presto album never gets the live it deserves, so I think it’s fair you try one of its songs out.
Lastly, an instrumental live track- The Main Monkey Business from the R40 tour. The guys got nominated for a Grammy for this one… and I’m pretty sure they lost it to Springsteen. There is no justice in the world. It’s also worth a watch simply because it’s their last tour and even in their sixties they’re all still playing at THAT LEVEL. The light show doesn’t suck either. Lol.

Name one other song from any other band on their final album...given a 10 year career let alone 40 years...that is as epic as this song or any song on this album. One of the best final albums ever. Listen to the Garden (Live). Last song on this album. But also pull up the lyrics. What an emotional end to a career.
