Okay, do you think KDP Select is worth enrolling your ebooks? Hear my thoughts: czcams.com/video/qbJa8381dOo/video.html
I have had mixed results with KDP Select. Some have been positive on initial release, better than initial sales. I'm going to be doing a relaunch of some of my KDP Select books so I'll have to give you my thoughts on that when I do. At this point, I have yet to see KDP Select being the boon it wanted to be and was when it initially began. It's not bad though if you're just getting started.
That's just my 2 cents :)
I believe you and I think a lot alike. KDP Select is great for starters and awesome for a select few. But overall, it isn’t all that and a bag of chips. 😀👍👏
@@DaleLRoberts That sums it up nicely :-D
Thanks! 😀👍👏
Hi, I'm working on a book. It's 8.5" x 8.5". Whenever I upload book interior or cover I got mails from KDP. They asked me to add 0.25" height and 0.125" width that I already did.
You can help me by providing a correct interior and cover pdf. I just need an sample of book to see correct measurements.
You can send me any book with correct measurements. I just want to understand the matter of measurements by analysing it.
Thank you. I would appreciate your help.
You can help me. In return I can make CZcams thumbnails for free.
Thanks.
Dale is the real deal y'all. I sent him an email yesterday with a question and he responded the same day. Not only is he genuine, he is sharing his wisdom with anyone who will listen. I didn't realize how many videos he had,( 300 + say what?) but if your'e an Indie and not checking him out, you're wasting time learning things that he already knows. Thanks again Dale. I can't wait to learn more. You're a shining example for the writing community.
Thanks so much for the kudos! That means the world to me.

Keep pumping these videos out Dale. They're great. Even though I know all about KDP these are great reminders as I prepare to publish my next book!
Devin! Hey, I have even more video content on the horizon that’ll update old content and expand into new areas. I’ve got the next 6 weeks booked on this channel and hope to deliver the goods to you and the others. Thanks so much for the kudos 😀👍👏

Excellent information, thank you Dale! Published my first novel with Xlibris but would like to take a different route this time. Definitely considering KDP now :)
Awesome! Congrats on your first novel. How was the experience with Xlibris? I've only heard of them, so I'm not too sure about anything outside of that.
Thanks for the information Dale. I'm always learning something from you!

Hey Dale! Found you through jumpstart! So happy to be aware fo your channel -- it's true so many people want to write a book in this day - crazy!
Haha wow! I got so caught up in asking my question that I forgot there was 29 others listening. And, yes, everyone and their mother as I said. But, I’m glad Derral helped refine my direction.

@C.S.Allen It's crazy that so much of the population wants to write a book - not that you as a person would want to write a book. It's just a new era or sure!

Hi Corwin! How has it gone for you with KDP? I'm trying to decide before I leap.
@@mwj5368 Hey
My first book went live a few days ago. Working on getting AMS up and running
Kudos for answering, Corwin!
You are adding some very valuable info with your video's. Thanks for the info.
Thanks so much for the kudos.
Self-publishing may be the route to go, but I would always recommend trying for a traditional publishing deal with an advance, promotion, and distribution negotiated. I know it won't happen for everyone, but you know the old saying "if you don't ask..." I did, and got lucky with my first book, a memoir. Maybe you will too! Peace!
Congrats.
Cost a lot though
You are very clear and informative, thanks. I will be ready in about 5 months, I should release the first 2-3 books of my children's book series. I will keep you informed.
Hey, thanks for the kudos. And, yes, please do keep me updated.
I wish I stumbled across this video earlier lol. Very succinctly states the benefits and disadvantages to this model.
Two of my books have been recently published. One is a collection of three sci-fi, horror shorts called “Lost Case Encounters” and the other is the first installment of a sci-fi, fantasy novel series I’m putting together that’s “Tales Of Alandria: Bridging Of Worlds”. Love writing as a hobby during my free time between both my jobs during the week. Great to keep yourself busy.
That's great. Keep taking action and you'll reap the rewards. Best of luck on your journey.
Great information Dale! Thank you
Hey, Sean! Thanks for the kudos. Stay tuned, I'm going back to the well VERY soon on this topic. I need to address expanded distribution on a more granular level.
Great videos, thanks. I write ebooks Monday to Friday, 9-5, as my full time job. But sometimes I get lazy or demotivated and that's when I turn to videos such as this - it's a change of pace and to a certain extent is a form of 'goofing off' but it also has useful information for my work.
Awesome. Glad I could help.
Wow I would love to do this 9-5 .Do you think its a realistic way to write books for a living?I know some people do but they seem to be the exception.
@@shawandahoward5648 I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean is it realistic to write for a living, or realistic to write 9-5 Monday to Friday? Anyway, I think both are true. I work full time as a writer because I've been lucky enough to find a non-fiction niche that sells; I also like writing Monday to Friday, 9-5 as I need the discipline of clearly structured writing time. Some people don't need that however and can write just as well without a structure. But I think to be a successful writer one has to at least keep to set targets. The late Sir Kingsley Amis, one of the bestselling British novelists of the 20th century, for example, had a daily target of writing just 500 words but he always kept to it no matter what happened.
@@Londonfogey Awesome!!As a new stay at home mom ,who loves to write,I am really going to give this a shot.I will definitely write Monday-Friday.Thanks so much for responding. This gave me hope❤

I have eight books on KPD, 4 short stories (only on Kindle), 3 novellas and 1 novel in print. (After just one year), I have made sales, (though I admit they were slow but impressive. Though I do admit that writing the book is tiring and time-consuming, not to mention designing the cover, editing the book and marketing it. I admit it was a good way to help you get started, but I would like to get a traditional contract in a few years. I still keep on writing and new titles are coming out this year too.
Keep working at it. Try to market and promote it. Eventually someone in trad pub will take notice if you make enough noise.
Great video. I keep meaning to go wide but haven't got round to it. KPD is simple enough to use.
Sometimes, it’s good to master the fundamentals before expanding into other areas. 😀👍👏
I am still considering publishing with them, but this video *was* very helpful. Thank you Dale!
Thanks so much for the kudos! I hope to hear more about your progress soon.
Self-Publishing with Dale I will keep you posted but the book most likely wont be published until next year
Nothing great should ever be rushed. Take your time and keep me posted.
Self-Publishing with Dale that’s wise words, and surely true. I will of course keep you posted

Hey, thanks for the kudos! Have you published to KDP yet? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Worth it or not?
great video. Just starting to get my book edited and this was some great information.
Excellent! I’m glad you found it useful.
Any tips if you have it done now?
Thank you Dale this was very helpful. I am and illustrator aspiring to publish my first children's book through KDP soon. :-)
Wonderful! How soon are you aiming to publish?
I would defiantly recommend it to others,There’s no start up cost for someone that is looking to not spend any capital or wants to do it part time. It’s a great platform to start on since they offer an expanded distribution were you can reach more readers and people.Big thumbs up to this video 👍.
Thanks so much for weighing in. As always, I appreciate your support. 😀👍👏 outside of KDP, what areas would you recommend to publish? 🤔
Self-Publishing with Dale there is a lot like Zazzle,Red Bubble,Lulu etc... Not to sure if the Royalties are high on these platforms.I wanted to expand but I also wanted to stick to where I was seeing more success.
as a Self Publisher there is always risks that we have to take and do our homework so we don’t get burned in the end. That is why I just want to say a huge thank you for all the content you put out and info it helps us Self Publishers a lot.👍👏
Aw, shucks. I do my best and though I don't put a winner out every time, I certainly shoot for high-quality every time. Yeah, one can never be too cautious. I'm hoping that through my pitfalls and missteps, people will learn to avoid them and become more successful than I ever have.
Not a knock at you brother but you remind me alot of Alton Brown with your speaking style. Lovr the content too btw. Thank you for sharing amd teaching us.
Well, that’s a compliment to me. I love Good Eats! Alton is one of my favorites. Thanks so much for the kudos 😀👏👍
I've published 2 books on KDP and my first book did well but my latest one hasn't got much traction...maybe because I just published it last October (2019) and its specific for my business. I agree with your points and like your delivery in explaining everything. My question is, how can I promote my books more? Should I do face to face promotion ? Would paid ads be my best bet?
Thanks so much and thanks for all your info (really like your videos). 😊

I’m starting to get it!! Thx!

This is very informative. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, I appreciate your kind words. 👍
Good stuff, thanks. I'm interested in black and white comics and am thinking about doing KDP for any individual books and then crowdfunding collections of volumes into a nicer hardcover book. I'm not entirely sure this is a great game plan, but it's where my head's at currently.
The contract of KDP Select seems like an upfront deal breaker for me, as I was planning on also having the comic hosted digitally online. The exclusivity of KDP Select would make that avenue for audience growth impossible.
I don't really see anyone creating graphic novels but I know it's possible. Anyway, just sharing where I'm coming from. Thanks for all the work, I just found your channel today and it seems to have a lot of great info.
You can use KDP for distribution of your ebook without opting into KDP Select. You may want to look into distribution through Amazon’s platform, Comixology.
@@DaleLRoberts awesome, will do. Thanks.
Fitzfactor thanks for watching and commenting.😀👍👏
I have gone back and forth on my head whether I should go into the Select Program. Most of my sales are isolated to Amazon, so I thought it might be a good move. Question: Can each book be different?
Good question: it can vary per book, especially if they are not in a series. The good news about KDP Select is you can always opt-out after 90 days should you find it unhelpful. I've had some books that do really good on KDP Select while others that do well outside of it and listed on multiple platforms (i.e. Smashwords, Draft2Digital, PublishDrive, etc.).
I published my first book as an a-book with Amazon and it cost me nothing and it was amazing. My book sold and there was a demand for it in paperback. Two weeks ago my book became available in paperback as well.
Congrats.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

I hope I can self-publish soon. I have to learn so many things from you.
So glad you have. Did you get access to The DIY Publishing Course for Beginners? It’s free. diypublishing.biz/free
Thanks for this video! I have been doing this for 3 years (self-taught) but there were several holes in my understanding. This helps to explain things.
Oh, thanks for the kudos! I hope my other videos help shed light in other areas.
Super glad I found your channel! So I'm pretty new to all of this but I'm almost done writing my first book. My question is, if I want to publish it on Amazon as an eBook, paperback, and an audiobook, what's the best route to take to get it punished on all three of these formats? And should I bother with KDP select? Thank you in advance
Since you’re new to the biz, stick with KDP and ACX. I have a full course for beginners that’s free at diypublishing.biz/free.
You are so awesome. Thank you, thank you!
Aw, shucks. Thanks so much for the kudos.
GREAT VIDEO DALE. Content was informative, concise, and relevant on the entire KDP platform. Keep up the good work for us newbies who are still working to publish that first book. Question. WOULD YOU SUGGEST A NEWBIE SELF-PUBLISHER SELL EBOOKS AND PAPERBACKS ON AN AUTHOR WEBSITE ONLY INSTEAD OF AMAZON KDP? Thanks for your advice. God Bless. "MISS IDENTITY"
I’d recommend it the other way around. Reach a larger audience first on Amazon, then direct readers to your site.
Thanks so much for the kudos!
Thanks. Very helpful for a newbie.
You're welcome!
Hi Dale, love your videos! Thank you so much for providing them to us all. We recently finished a children's book and deciding between KDP or self publish route. Do you have any suggestions on the pros and cons of either? Also, is it a smart move to start with KDP and then should you gain a lot of traction then try to find an agent/publisher and in that case, can you pull your book off Amazon and sell it elsewhere? While it's on Amazon is their exclusivity as in you't cant sell the book anywhere else? Thanks in advance for your help!!
Jekka Kuhlmann KDP is a good starting point. You own the rights even if you publish to KDP. If you want additional distribution for your ebook, then do not enroll that ebook in KDP Select. Here’s a video explaining it:
czcams.com/video/m6ySFrENpuI/video.html
@@DaleLRoberts Ah great ok. Thanks! And then in terms of copyright, do you have to submit anything prior or can you just include a templated copyright page in the book? Are you meant to submit your manuscript to Copyright.gov prior as well?

Thanks so much for this video, super helpful. I have a question and maybe you can recommend someone to talk to about this, but I was previously published by a small press, in 2006. 13 years later, with no money (not a cent) coming to me from this indie press despite the work I did to self-promote, I've decided to re-publish my novel on my own through Amazon. I need to figure out the logistics of should it be a new Amazon page (and then how to move reviews, what to do about ISBNs, etc.) or how to replace their (currently still functional) page for my book. My contract expired long ago and they said they'll give me ability/login to re-publish on the Amazon page, but I need to know the best way to approach it.
Yeah, I’m sure you’re going to want to clean up the original manuscript and maybe add or subtract content that was in it. Create a second edition and delist the original. When you go to launch the new one, request Amazon moving the reviews from the original to the second edition.
I published my first book on Createspace a couple of years ago and enjoyed the experience. I was initially open to transferring to KDP when they shut down Createspace until I discovered that I can’t order Author copies in Australia. As an Australian if I want copies of my own book, I have to order retail copies. How is that sustainable business for me? Amazon is now dead to me.
Can’t say I blame you.
Great video and a lot of the information that I have been seeking, you talked about. I just want to clear it up personally. So, I can send in my manuscript, and it’s free to publish, am I able to use that book to personally sell at stores, etc? I’m not looking to make a lot of money from the books, so what cost should I set it at? I just want to get it in as many hands as possible. And lastly, once they publish, I can do my own personal advertising on social media and blogs?
Yes, you can distribute it to brick and mortar stores.
For pricing, check out other books in your niche and price accordingly.
And, absolutely! Amazon loves when you share your product on your site and social media. I’d recommend looking into Amazon Associates.
hello.
new to the subject. know nothing yet.
question please:
I have a short story to publish.
can I self publish it on many different platforms? if so ,the question "does it worth it" on a certain platform loses its significant .
thank you.
Yes, you can publish it on other platforms in addition to KDP. Just remember, if you opt your ebook into KDP Select, you cannot publish the ebook in other areas off Amazon during the 90-day agreement.
I cover all this in my free course The DIY Publishing Course for Beginners at
diypublishing.biz/free
I want to start publishing books, and I feel that KDP would be a good place to start, since it's less money and I can see how the public would react to it. However, I would eventually like to get some of them in hardcover or on the shelves of bookstores, like B&N, which I believe is what IngramSpark is able to do. Is it possible to use both; KDP for Amazon and IngramSpark for hardcovers and distributions for stores? If this is possible, would I need to get my own ISBN number and use the same for both, or should I get the free one that KDP offers and get another one for IngramSpark?
Yes and yes. The latter idea of getting an ISBN is a great idea since you’ll need it for IngramSpark. I’m sure you know this, but you’ll need an ISBN for each type (I.e., ebook, paperback, hardback, etc.). Hope that helps.
HI Dale! Another very informative video! I am concerned about the conditions at present as the cyber world changes fast. In your 2018 video on KDP pros and cons Kelli estimated even then possibly 2 million books posted with KDP Select (I think she meant Select area) and wondering if there is a diminishing return as numbers of books published climb. As of August do you still feel KDP Select is the best choice to self-publish? At this point what is considered second best to KDP or better? I am a first time author and yet I have won some awards -- for what that could be worth mentioning or not when self-publishing. (?) I look forward to your DIY video.
Amazon KDP is still the big dog in the yard and the most viable option for authors. The second would be Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo or Google Play. Sadly, I don't have stats to back that up.
@@DaleLRoberts Wow! Lulu doesn't even make the list. Another reviewer described Lulu as s good fit for family memoirs, a vacation memoir--something locally circulated.
Lulu is still a viable option. But, you never see them mentioned in the same conversation as the likes of Amazon or the alternatives. Why is that? They’re an aggregate publishing platform. Besides, two of their distribution relationships are Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
this is highly informative but it would benefit from using visual aid, such as charts and animations
Thanks for the suggestion.
Hey Dale, I'm pretty sure that "rank" is based on # of downloads not # of pages read. So the "bestseller" status isn't tied to how many pages people read, but rather how many books have been "borrowed" or "downloaded.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Dale, I am a resident in Hong Kong and my country does not have tax treaty with US, so the withholder fee is 30%. Do you know if there is any way to get around that? Thanks!
Sadly, I don't know of any way. Sorry, that's a bit outside my wheelhouse.
Hi, your video was great and helpful! If not KDP which platform is best to self publish?? I've written a children's book and is it fair to say that since children's books price point isn't significant that the KDP platform is ok? I've read mixed reviews about KDP and the thing I'm struggling with is KDP's terms might change after 90 days of selling your book there. Also I keep hearing that it's exclusive - does that mean I am unable to sell my book on other platforms ? I'am a bit stuck so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!
I wasn’t implying KDP as unsuitable. It’s quite the opposite. The exclusivity agreement for the KDP Select Program is only for ebooks for a 90 day period. The exclusivity doesn’t include print or audio.
Check out my free online course, it’ll answer all your questions:

New sub. I love and appreciate the content. I am looking to publish a print on demand 20-page coloring book with a self-purchased ISBN. I don't know how much of this content applies to me as it seems this may apply to traditional authors. I have a book cover with my name on it. Any thoughts on the best way to get published where I can get the most band for my buck? I am watching all your videos-straight binging. Thank you!
Hey, thanks. The principles will still apply.
You're not getting rich but KDP is actually pretty cool to have a template, create a book cover, and publish your book. I say publish it via KDP select. See if ppl read it. If they do then send it to a publisher. Being a bestseller on amazon select is something to put in a letter at least.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I think you can get rich if your book is a bestseller. The better your book, the better your chances. I've read somewhere that 6 published books are good enough for a writer to give up a regular job and start living only by writing.
Nail Saggitarius nice insights.
This would be something to include in your letter to an agent or publisher about your next book. It's going to be a very tough sale to get an agent or publisher to take up a book that has already been published, including self-pubbed
Thanks for the insights.
I have three books ... look for G J Fortier for the Mirrored Man series and The Sought (y’all had to know I would do this) ... and I will probably publish more. It’s a great hobby, but I wouldn’t expect fortune and fame unless you have lots of time, money and help with marketing. But it’s just very cool to have my books in print ... even if they’re just on my shelf.
This is a great mindset to have. I find this refreshing. Keep up the great work.
Hello, I amnew in kindle publish and still trying to upload my first low content book , after I almost finished all the steps , kindle informed me that my print cost will be 2.5 dollars per book , please what does this mean ? does it mean that kindle will charge me right after uploading my work or after I already sell it ? Thank you very much
Reem Saleh No, that’s the base print cost of the book. The customer pays for that, not you.
Out of morbid curiosity, do you think it would be justified to charge 9,99 for a book that might be over a 1000 pages long? It's a fantasy book and I was leaning towards going for KDP rather than book publishing due to the obvious budgetary limitations that a 1000 page long book might take. Is 9,99 the sweet spot or how would you go about in this situation? Thank you very much, Dale!
This is tough to call. If you have no followers, then I’d say don’t release a book that large until you have some.
Hi Dale great video, does KDP have a template to design a cover or is that for me to do? And lastly, if I want to sell paperback as well as ebook, audiobook, will I have to have physical copies available, or will this be done by KDP? Thank you so much
Yes, they have a template for print covers. I discuss it here: Cover Template for KDP Print Using GIMP (2019) czcams.com/video/dVs6__7IYGs/video.html
As for your second question, can you rephrase it? I’m not sure I understand.
@@DaleLRoberts He's asking if he should or has to keep paperbacks in stock if he wants to sell actual copies of his book.
Sha sure. But, that’s if you want to fulfill the print run orders.
Hey Dale, I´m doing an internship in a publishing house in my country, Honduras, they want to start publishing ebooks, I´d like to know if is the same process to publish the books (about 205 books they have), or if they have to do another process in order to publish with KDP. thanks for the info and help.
You can go with KDP. There's another type of publisher's account, but it's not accessible to most small publishing houses. And, I cannot recall how to access it. I'd recommend reaching out to them for clarification. Or, just go right to KDP.
Hello Dale, is it possible to publish a short story on KDP? And thus, would it then be best sold for 30p/40p for example?
Yes. Sadly, you can go as low as 99p, but no lower unless it's free. I have a full video series about Kindle short reads, special invite only categories for short stories or publications with shorter content. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/CZFs6hRGb4Q/video.html
i'm a bit of a noob author but im researching every thing i need to know before publishing. ive decided to publish on kdp but im struggling to find a sutible price

I wrote a short story and was considering uploading it to KDP.....right now it's saved as a draft bc I'm still nervous about publishing it. It doesn't have a copyright but uploading it to KDP places a copyright correct? It's a 40 page short story.... $7.00 and option for ebook at $2.00....should I upload it?
Correct, you have a general copyright. If you want to make sure it holds up in case of litigation, you'd want to file the copyright.
I'm not sure what you're asking about pricing.
Should you upload it? Sure! Why not? If it's good to go, fully edited and you're confident in it, hit that publish button.
Hey, I'm not sure if you will check this, but I was wondering if you can publish the same book on different websites eg through Kindle Direct Publishing as well as Kobo, Nook Press and Apple books? Of course with your purchased isbn number.
You sure can 👍😀👏
Just the KDP Select program. BUT, it doesn’t always work out for some books. Hence publishing wide. And, that’s only ebooks.
Hi Dale, thanks so much for these videos. I'm in the middle of self-publishing my first book and I have learned So Much from your channel. I really appreciate all the information. The one thing I have not been able to find out for sure, and the one thing I really want to know: If I use KDP expanded distribution, does my book get listed on the Book Depository? This is important for me because I am publishing in Canada, but at least half of my audience is in New Zealand. Amazon charges a lot (in NZ$) to ship a book to NZ. Book Depository ships to NZ for free.... so it will make a big difference to my NZ buyers. Anyway, that's a long way of asking -- where can I find out exactly what retailers (online and offline) are included in KDP's expanded distribution? THANKS,
Sue
Bad news: KDP doesn’t even know. But, I can recommend looking into Ingram Content Group’s distribution. They’re largely responsible for expanded distribution.
And sadly, I don’t know what the Book Depository is. Let me know what you find out. I’m curious.
@@DaleLRoberts Thanks Dale. Book Depository is apparently the UK's biggest online book retailer. They are part of Ingram's network. They ship free to NZ very quickly, so they are quite popular there. And I think they might be owned by Amazon, but there is no obvious connections publicized anywhere I've researched. I am also looking into Ingramspark now. I think they might be a better fit for me, at least for my sales outside of the US and Canada. Thanks for all your excellent content, and your quick reply.
Wonderful! Well, I hope this works out in your favor. Let me know if they do carry Book Depository and if you’re able to get your book shipped to you. Awesome work. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dale,
I was wondering is it possible to use KDP to publish a personalised book. I want to publish a book that the buyer can personalise the character in the book. Just wondering if it is possible.
Thank you
Yes and no. I suppose you could fulfill it for the person through your account. Beyond that, it’ll end up getting worldwide distribution. If you want to skip distribution, consider Barnes & Noble Press. They have a personal distribution option.
I’m a college going student and want to make money for book fees etc. what do I do. I’m good at writing and listening. Also an Indian

Excellent video. Great content.
Hey, thanks so much! 😀👍👏
If/when I publish an ebook on amazon and sell it for say ...7.99, can I then have a link that gives the ebook away for free to buyers of a related product I am selling on amazon?
Sadly, no. You could buy a gift copy and give the code to someone, but beyond that, there’s no way to do freebies of priced ebooks. You CAN price the book for free through a pricematch, but that’d remove your $7.99 pricing.
How is the quality of publication? I'm considering kdp. Hoping for hard cover but open to best options. I am curious if i can see an actual copy before committing.
Watch this video series where I cover KDP and a number of other options: czcams.com/video/P3Mv43cfasA/video.html
How do you get your book on Amazon China?
It’s not available yet.
Any idea when that might happen? That would be massive for my books.
Sadly, I don’t know nor are they open about expansion.
Off-topic: I've written a huge book (204,000 words). I don't see a way to spilt it in half for two books, but it may be possible to divide it into 4 books at roughly 150 pages each. In other words, a volume. Is this ever a good idea, and where can I get info on how that would work when publishing in Kindle or wherever?
That’d be an excellent idea. And should you later want to publish the full volume. Have you published any books yet? If not, start here:

watched this video nov 1 hey I want to write some early space exploitation sci fiction that is believable do you think there would be a good sized market that would wanna pay to read such a thing
There’s an audience for everything. Do a little research on Amazon to find out.
Please help, Since last 4 months, kdp royalty from amazon.com marketplace showing paid in Indian currency through EFT in payment option, but its not reflecting actually in my bank account.

I am terrified of self publishing. I did release a beta of my book to a website to see how people received it. It was, for a vast majority of the feedback, positive. but I'm scared because one: I am still running around the book trying to fix any grammar issues with a failing laptop, and it's something that uses established science fiction (like phasers, antimatter reactors/warp cores, etc.) and I am terrified of that being something that'll get it taken down. However I have been told that there is no reason to be afraid of copyright issues using those because they are a theoretical science, not a copy righted names. Thoughts?
Dave Chesson did a great job describing copyright. Check out this video:

Hello, I'm wondering how do you know which book is selling? On the kdp reports page it only says if a ebook or paper book sold but it doesn't say the title, so if you have hundreds of books on kdp, how do you know which one is the one that sold? Thanks.
1) Go to your KDP Dashboard and click the "Reports" tab at the top
2) Next, select the date range you want to analyze.
3) Click update and the graphs will update
4) Scroll down and click "Generate Report"
5) Open the .csv file with Microsoft Spreadsheets or Google Sheets
6) Select any of the tabs to see performance based on ebooks, print books and page reads
Or, select the "Month-to-date" tab to see real-time reports for both ebook and print.
If you have any other questions, scroll to the bottom of your KDP Dashboard and click "Contact Us." They're super helpful. I'd recommend getting them on the phone, you'll learn more than by email.
Thanks for the video.I can't log into my amazon kdp account; what could be the issue?
+RODRIQUE ANOINTED hmmm, check your email and spam folder. They may have froze your account. OR, you may have logged in with the wrong email.
Hi i wish to publish my paperback book, do it require epub? and if i ho for ebook then is it imp for epub?
No, it doesn't require epub. For eBooks, you can submit a Word doc and for paperbacks, a PDF.
I LOVE that SHIRT " i Wrote my own Book" !!! ???
Hey, thanks. I’ve since sent it to the local thrift store because I lost a few pounds since this video.
I have just written a book on a VERY controversial topic. Just sent it to one doctor for review (via Facebook), and my fb account was quickly disabled. It's nice when someone is writing novels and other "safe," topics, but censorship now with the big five social media platforms is ridiculous. With THIS fact in mind, what is the best option to publish a controversial book that will NOT be censored?
Whoa! I’m not sure what’s the deal with FB. Did you send it unsolicited? I’d say avoid that avenue for now.
Amazon is usually good about publishing controversial books. Heck, ProPublica published a whole piece (The Hate Store) about Amazon’s lax approach to publishing. However, there’s a bit of a double standard. So, before you publish your piece, contact KDP in advance to get an all clear. I’ll let you know that anything surrounding the pandemic is a mess. Proceed with caution.
Hi, I have a question.
If one decides to publish on KDP is one legally blocked from publishing with another publisher or platform?
As a self-published author, you retain all of the print and digital rights to your work. You can do with it what you please. The only time you are not allowed to publish via other platforms is when you are actively enrolled in the KDP Select program. You can unenroll via your KDP Dashboard.
@@DaleLRoberts thank you so much. Great video, you explain everything perfectly.
I want to publish a coloring book. Do you have a video about this? Or, even if not specifically mentioned, a video that I should use the information from?
Here's what I have - czcams.com/video/38jPgC-uJS0/video.html
What if you have the infrastructure to publish and print via manufacturer and only used Amazon as basically a fulfillment service. Would you recommend this route, while owning your ISBN?
Also if you release ebook version with KDP, is there anything stopping you from listing your own prime book on that page as a variation?
Sure, you'd need an Amazon Seller account. It comes with fees, so be careful. It can get costly. As for ebook fulfillment, I'm not sure how that'd work. Reach out to Amazon Seller support and they can answer that.
If you're publishing an ebook through kindle can you make the ebook amazon exclusive but publish a paperback and hardback version through other sites?
Yes. Distribution rights vary per publication type.
@@DaleLRoberts Awesome! Thank you
😀👍👏
When I did my book, Amazon actually said I wasn't eligible for Select. Even then, I'd rather grow organically.
Really? I checked out your book and don't know why they would deny you eligibility for KDP Select. Do you have it published on other platforms outside of KDP? That's typically the deal breaker.
Nope, first time, first solo book.
Interesting 🤔 I haven't the foggiest why they wouldn't allow you to enroll in KDP Select. Hmmm...I'm stumped.
