Railway Roundabout 1959 'Thornaby Motive Power Depot'

Now onto our second shed visit, the now closed Thornaby Motive Power Depot.
This was one of the last built built steam sheds where we see a few locomotives of the Q6 class,One, 2238 (LNER 1946 number 3395; BR 63395) has survived to preservation on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. It is owned by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) and re-entered service after a major overhaul in 2007.

In 1962 Thornaby had a fleet of 183 steam engines on the books + a couple of dozen diesels (in service) - and a couple of dozen additional diesels (ordered but not yet delivered).

I hadn't realised the commentary was modern until he mentioned that Thornaby roundhouse was demolished in the 1990s!

this depot lasted till 2011, ill miss this depot, ive grown up with it since 1996 :(

I worked there in62 to 65 as a passed cleaner got very good at using bullring turn table could stop it spot on every time

Take a look at the Norfolk and western's service arrangements for the modern coal burning J6 locomotives. That's modern.!!!
